Chapter 1267: Mysterious Danger (Part 3)

Even in the more developed cities of Western countries, whether it’s Muggles or Wizards, breakfast might be available, but you still need to pay separately for it; it’s never free.

It’s quite normal.

After all, in this era of underdeveloped transportation and globalization, even Wizards rarely travel across large regions. Those who do travel, whether Wizards or not, are wealthy people.

Rich folks rarely haggle over small savings, and they pay generously, so naturally, the shop owners want to earn as much as they can; sometimes breakfast can be more expensive than the room fee.

Of course.

The food provided would indeed be better. However, Ian’s character is not suitable for the kind that covets culinary pleasures, so the breakfast prepared by this store owner now really suits his taste.

It’s very simple.

It certainly won’t be very tasty, but it definitely won’t be very bad either. Ian, having been spoiled by the House-Elf’s cooking, does not have the idea of seeking gourmet food in this era.

The main reason is that Africa is considered a culinary desert.

“Hmm, I understand.” Upon hearing the store owner’s explanation, Ian quickly nodded and agreed, showing no signs of disappointment or any other expressions on the surface. He was actually a bit disappointed deep down; they were just some local tribal conflicts and ordinary mysterious events, not the information Ian wanted.

But he didn’t show it.

He thanked the store owner, who then nodded, turned around, and left.

“So, I still have to go out and investigate later, to find those who know the most information—such as the official personnel of this market or local Ministry of Magic officials.”

Musing silently.

Ian returned to his room with breakfast and closed the door. He did not enjoy it immediately but skillfully took out several small alchemy tools from his Money Bag first.

As they say, when going out, everyone, whether girls or boys, must protect themselves. He had quite a few tools, including a Silver Needle that could detect most common toxins, a Crystal Slab sensitive to Dark Arts Energy, and even a Micro Spider Construct specifically used to detect subtle curse fluctuations.

These were all signs of caution.

Ian was extremely meticulous, sampling each food and tea for testing; his movements were skillful and swift, as if he had done it hundreds of times. The Silver Needle did not turn black, the Crystal Slab did not emit abnormal light, and the Micro Spider Construct did not sound an alarm. This series of operations was smooth indeed.

“Seems like there’s no problem.” Ian finally eased his mind and started to taste this African-inspired breakfast. It appeared to be corn mush, but he knew it was called “Ugarit.”

After all, being a knowledgeable Ravenclaw College student, understanding some of this seemingly useless information was quite normal, not to mention Ian had a system that allowed him to learn and gain experience points.

In summary.

Ian was truly comprehensive.

The food had a coarse texture but was filled with the aroma of grains, and it tasted surprisingly good when dipped in a spicy stew sauce; it exceeded Ian’s psychological expectations.

There were also crispy pancakes.

They were delicious too.

The tea had a unique woody herb fragrance, and drinking it made one feel energized, obviously it contained some mint-like refreshing herbs.

Though it may not be a Magic Potion, its effect on people was useful.

While eating, Ian continued pondering about the dreams and morning “hallucinations.” The warnings from local gods weren’t baseless. What kind of existence could make the ancient spiritual nature of this land so warily?

Could it be another Evil God like Set-Apep?

That might be the biggest possibility.

Of course, it could also be something older and more indescribable, definitely a tabooed entity that local Gods are extremely wary of, even to the point of not daring to mention its name.

“Creatures that cannot be named, hmm, such a familiar taste, Voldemort was too ahead of his time.” Ian couldn’t help but muse inwardly.

As his thoughts were swirling, the door was knocked on once again.

The innkeeper’s voice came from outside.

“Sir, someone is looking for you.”
