Agnes’ lips trembled, her face pale. She didn’t know what to say; she just felt that Darla was acting very strange right now.

Why was she suddenly saying all this to her?

“Darla, what’s gotten into you today?”

Darla stared at Agnes, enunciating each word clearly. “A man I like has been stolen away by a despicable, lowly, scheming woman who has no place in our society.”

“Aunt Agnes, please help me. Talk to that despicable, lowly, scheming woman and do whatever it takes to make her get lost, and stop hounding the man I like. Will you?”

Agnes froze, a sense of foreboding washing over her. “Who is this scheming woman?”

Darla gave a mysterious smile. “I’ll give you her contact information. You’ll find out soon enough.”

************

Agnes left Darla’s room, a piece of paper clutched in her hand.

On the note was a cell phone number.

From what Darla implied, the owner of this number was the scheming woman who had stolen the man Darla liked.

And Darla had actually asked her to contact this scheming woman and make her stay away from the man Darla liked.

Agnes didn’t understand why Darla was asking her to do this; she just felt that Darla was acting strangely today.

Besides, she had originally intended to ask Darla to lend her ten million, but seeing that Darla’s expression was off, she decided against it.

Never mind, she’d think of another way.

If that didn’t work, she’d sell the jewelry she’d been saving for years, maybe she could get a decent sum for it.

As for this contact information...

**************

Meanwhile, after enthusiastically introducing Alana to her colleagues, Cynthia wanted to invite her over to her place.

Alana felt awkward about dropping by unannounced, since she hadn’t prepared anything.

“Mom, how about this weekend? We’ll have more time then.”

Cynthia nodded with a smile. “That works too. It’s my fault for being so impatient, I am practically dying to bring you home right away.”

She’d just introduced Alana as her daughter-in-law, she’d gotten so carried away that she’d almost convinced herself.

She already considered Alana her daughter-in-law and wanted to bring her home right then and there.

Still, she’d been a bit too hasty.

Cynthia added, “Now that we’ve met, why don’t we go out for a meal together?”

Alana nodded, no longer refusing.

The two went to the restaurant where they’d met last time.

They found a table, Alana took the initiative to pull out a chair for Cynthia, making it easier for her to sit down.

Seeing Alana’s well-mannered gesture, Cynthia was even more pleased with the young woman.

Look at that, how polite.

Cynthia smiled as she sat down, then pulled out the chair next to her so Alana could sit beside her.

Then, she took the initiative to pick up the menu and handed it to Alana. “Lana, you order.”

Alana replied politely, “Mom, you order.”

“Oh, come on, we’re family, no need to be so formal. Besides, I’ve tried almost everything on the menu here, so there aren’t any bad choices. I’m just worried about your dietary restrictions, so it’s better if you order.”

“I don’t really have any dietary restrictions either. You can order for us.”

“You order.”

“No, you go ahead!”

“You go ahead..."

The waiter almost lost his temper: "Who’s going to order?!"

Cynthia and Alana were silent for a moment.

After a bit of back-and-forth, they decided to order together.

They ended up ordering over a dozen dishes, filling the table to the brim.

Alana hadn’t intended to order so much, but Cynthia was so enthusiastic that she insisted on ordering all the famous dishes from this restaurant.

There were so many dishes that even ten people couldn’t finish them all.

Cynthia smiled and said, “It’s okay if we can’t finish it all. This is the first time I’ve had the chance to dine with my daughter-in-law, so ordering a few extra dishes is fine, the important thing is to enjoy the meal!”

Alana blushed and nodded.

It seemed her mother-in-law couldn’t stop mentioning the word “daughter-in-law”; she just couldn’t let it go.

After a dozen or so dishes were served, Alana waited for Cynthia to take the first bite.

But Cynthia pulled out her phone and snapped several photos of the spread.

Suddenly, she turned the camera toward Alana. “Lana, give me a smile.”

Alana instinctively pursed her lips and smiled.

Click.

The camera captured the moment of Alana’s faint smile.

Alana was puzzled by Cynthia’s actions. “Mom, what are you doing...?”

Cynthia was fiddling with the photos. Upon hearing this, she looked up and smiled at Alana. “Hehe, it’s my first meal with my future daughter-in-law, I just wanted to show it off on my social media.”

Alana blinked.

This behavior... how is it so much like Stephan’s?

No wonder, they really are mother and son. Their knack for showing off is exactly the same.

Alana glanced at Cynthia’s phone. Sure enough, Cynthia quickly organized the photos and posted them to her social media.

[Dinner! Having dinner with my son’s girlfriend, my future daughter-in-law!]

Cynthia’s feed was already buzzing; as soon as she posted, a flood of likes and comments poured in.

[Oh my, what’s going on? When did your son get a girlfriend?]

[Oh my gosh, didn’t you just ask me a while back if I knew any girls to introduce to your son? How come he’s suddenly dating now?]

[I have to say, this girl is really pretty. She looks like such a quiet, reserved young woman!]

[I’m so jealous!]

Cynthia read the comments with a smile and replied to each one.

[My son just started dating her.]

[No need to set him up on any more blind dates, he’s found his true love!]

[Pretty, isn’t she? I think she’s gorgeous too, not only is she beautiful, but she has an amazing personality: gentle, sensible, and thoughtful!]

[Haha, go ahead and be super jealous!]

Her husband, Bernard, also liked and commented on the post.

[Honey, why didn’t you invite me to such a great event, dinner with my future daughter-in-law?]

Cynthia:[Go away, don’t interrupt my date with my future daughter-in-law!]

Bernard: [What a sucker.]

Stephan saw it too: [Mom, how could you hook up with my baby behind my back?]

Cynthia: [So what if we are? It’s going to drive you crazy!]

Stephan fumed.

Alana remained silent.

Cynthia seemed to remember something and immediately looked at Alana, “Oh my, Alana, I forgot to add you on WhatsApp.”

“I don’t have your contact info either. Let’s add each other so we can stay in touch.”

Alana paused for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”

She gave Cynthia her phone number, watched as Cynthia added her, and even labeled her as “Lana, my daughter-in-law.”

She couldn’t help but feel her face flush.

Wasn’t that a bit too direct?

When they added each other on WhatsApp, Cynthia used the exact same note.

After successfully adding Alana on all her social media, Cynthia immediately checked her feed and easily found the post she’d shared.

“Oh my, I was right after all. That breakfast this morning was definitely made for you, and he still won’t admit it!”

Alana blushed, looking very embarrassed. “Oh, is that so...”

Fearing that Cynthia might misunderstand and think her slave Stephan had made breakfast for her, she couldn’t help but explain, “Mom, actually, I didn’t mean to ask Stephan to make breakfast for me. He... just took the initiative...”

Cynthia immediately understood what Alana meant and shrugged it off, saying, “It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s no big deal if the slave makes it... he’s full of energy anyway. Besides, I really didn’t expect him to make breakfast for a girl. That guy is so lazy at home, if someone else can do it, he’ll never lift a finger!”

Alana was surprised.

She even referred to Stephan as a slave?

“Huh? Is that really how it is?”
