Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Berserker Class (part 1)
Kyle glanced around.
A broken spear lay several meters away. A sword had been abandoned beside a fallen soldier. There were countless weapons scattered across the battlefield, but before Kyle could move toward any of them, something caught his attention.
A greatsword.
It was lying beside the corpse of an adventurer, its thick blade partially covered in dirt and blood. The weapon was much larger and heavier than the ordinary swords Kyle was accustomed to seeing, but for some reason, his eyes immediately locked onto it.
He moved.
Kyle grabbed the greatsword with one hand and lifted it from the ground.
The weight surprised him.
After holding it for a few seconds, Kyle realized that it was not nearly as heavy as it should have been.
His fingers tightened around the grip.
The monster attacked. Kyle raised the greatsword.
CLANG!
The creature’s claws slammed against the blade, sending a violent shock through his arms. Kyle’s feet dug into the ground, but he did not retreat. Instead, he gritted his teeth and pushed forward.
The monster was stronger than the previous one.
Kyle could feel it, but so could the monster.
Its claws trembled as Kyle slowly forced them away.
"What..."
Kyle’s eyes widened.
His physical strength had increased again.
No, it was not simply strength. Something inside him was changing. His heart pounded harder, his blood felt hotter.
The sensation spread through his body like fire.
The monster suddenly twisted its body and attacked from the side. Kyle barely managed to raise the greatsword in time, but the impact forced him backward several steps.
The monster lunged again. This time, Kyle swung.
WHOOSH!
The greatsword cut through the air with tremendous force.
The blade struck the monster across its chest and sent it flying several meters away.
Blood sprayed across the ground, Kyle stared at the monster. Then he smiled, a strange smile.
The monster struggled to stand.
Kyle charged.
He swung the greatsword again.
The blade smashed into the monster’s shoulder and nearly severed its arm. The creature screamed and tried to counterattack, but Kyle stepped inside its reach and drove the blade straight through its chest.
The monster’s body went limp. Kyle pulled the greatsword free, another monster defeated.
But instead of feeling tired, Kyle felt stronger.
His breathing became heavier, yet every breath seemed to fill his body with even more energy. His muscles felt tighter, his senses sharper, and his movements faster.
He could hear the sounds of battle around him more clearly than before.
---
Kyle began moving through the battlefield.
He no longer fought like a porter who had accidentally picked up a weapon. His movements became increasingly aggressive, his attacks growing heavier with every passing moment. He charged into groups of monsters that other adventurers were struggling to handle, cutting through them with the greatsword in his hands.
At first, several adventurers noticed him.
"Who is that?"
"Isn’t that Black Vanguard’s porter?"
"What is their porter doing?"
Nobody had an answer.
Kyle ignored them.
A large monster rushed toward him. Kyle’s head snapped toward it. His eyes were no longer calm.
There was a wildness inside them that had not been there before.
The monster raised its claws and roared as it charged, but Kyle did not retreat. Instead, he lowered his body and tightened both hands around the greatsword.
Then he swung.
BOOM!
The blade collided with the monster’s claws.
The creature was thrown backward.
Kyle’s feet dug into the ground, but rather than stopping, he immediately chased after it. His greatsword swept across the battlefield again and again, each strike carrying more power than the last.
The monster tried to defend itself, It failed.
The first strike broke its guard, second shattered its shoulder, third cut through its chest, and the fourth ended its life. Kyle stood over the corpse.
His chest rose and fell rapidly.
His entire body was covered in blood, some of it belonged to him.
Most of it did not. Yet instead of being exhausted, Kyle felt incredible.
His heart pounded so hard that he could hear it inside his ears.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Every heartbeat seemed to push more strength through his body.
There were enemies everywhere. His mouth slowly curved upward.
"Kill..."
The word came out almost like a growl.
The battlefield became a blur.
His greatsword moved faster than before, slicing through bodies and crushing bones. Kyle no longer cared about conserving strength. He no longer cared about taking unnecessary risks. Whenever an opening appeared, he threw himself into it.
A monster clawed his chest but Kyle barely reacted. Another bit into his arm.
Kyle tore himself free and buried his sword into its skull.
A third struck him across the back and sent him stumbling forward.
Kyle turned around, his eyes were filled with rage.
He rushed back, the monster tried to retreat, but it was too late.
Kyle’s greatsword crashed into its body with enough force to send it flying several meters before it slammed into the ground.
The young adventurer Kyle had saved earlier stared at him from a distance.
"He’s..."
The young man swallowed.
"He’s really strong."
----
Far across the battlefield, near the city walls, an enormous battle was taking place.
The boss monster had reached the defensive line.
And the strongest adventurers present had surrounded it.
The three top adventurer groups had gathered together. Even they were struggling.
The boss monster swung one enormous arm.
BOOM!
Several adventurers were thrown backward.
"Give it your all, you bastards!"
"Use everything you have!"
"Keep attacking!"
The strongest fighters moved around the monster, attacking its legs, arms, and exposed joints whenever they found an opening.
Spells exploded against its scales, arrows struck its eyes and joints, swords clashed against its claws.
Yet none of it was enough to bring it down, they were not killing it.
They were merely stopping it.
Every time the boss attempted to charge toward the city, several powerful adventurers would intercept it.
Every time it swung its enormous claws, they scattered before regrouping.
They were buying time.
The monster roared. Its enormous body shook the battlefield.
Kyle stared, and something inside him stirred.
The boss was stronger than everything he had fought before. And yet, instead of fear, he felt excitement.
