Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Pervun

But the battlefield did not become peaceful.

Instead, an uneasy silence spread among the defenders as everyone turned their attention toward the only remaining threat.

The boss.

The enormous creature was still advancing toward Lufast City, its massive body covered in dark scales that reflected the light of the spells and arrows flying around it. Its two enormous horns rose above its head, while its red eyes swept across the battlefield with savage intent. The attacks that had killed the three mini bosses had barely left a mark on its body.

Everyone here understood what that meant.

The ordinary soldiers could not stop it. Even most of the adventurers could not stop it.

In fact, everyone knew that there was only one person in Lufast City capable of killing such a monster.

The number one adventurer of the city.

And unlike the other powerful adventurers, he did not belong to any group.

He was alone.

City Lord Tibran stood atop the city wall, his expression becoming increasingly serious as he watched the boss monster continue its advance.

"Where is Pervun?" Tibran suddenly asked.

The commander standing beside him immediately lowered his head.

"We don’t know, my lord."

Tibran’s expression darkened.

"Then stop wasting time looking for him. Send everyone capable of fighting to slow that monster down. We cannot allow it to reach the city."

"Yes, my lord!"

The order spread through the defensive line almost immediately.

"All combatants, advance!"

"Keep the boss busy!"

"Don’t fight it alone! Stay together!"

Soldiers raised their shields while adventurers tightened their grips on their weapons. Even though most of them knew they could not kill the boss, they still moved forward. Their objective was no longer victory. They only needed to stop the monster from rampaging long enough for Pervun to appear.

At the edge of the battlefield, Kyle had just finished placing another monster core into one of his bags when he heard the commotion.

He glanced toward the enormous boss.

"So that’s the boss..."

Even from this distance, Kyle could feel the pressure coming from the creature. He had never encountered anything like it before. The monster was so large that every step shook the ground, and its roar seemed to vibrate through his chest.

He turned toward another fallen monster and began collecting its materials. His movements were calm and efficient, and nobody paid much attention to him. With the battlefield becoming increasingly chaotic, a porter carrying supplies was the last person anyone would be watching.

Then something suddenly burst out from the side.

A monster that had slipped past the soldiers lunged directly toward him.

Kyle’s eyes widened.

The creature was a wolf-like monster covered in dark fur, its claws already reaching for his chest.

He instinctively stepped backward, his hand moved toward his waist. The only weapon he had was a kitchen knife.

Kyle had originally carried it because he sometimes used it to prepare food while traveling with the group. It was not a proper weapon, and compared to the swords and spears wielded by adventurers, it looked almost ridiculous.

Yet his body moved before he could think. Kyle stepped forward and swung, the kitchen knife flashed.

The monster’s body froze in midair. A moment later, its head fell to the ground.

Thud.

The rest of its body collapsed beside it.

Kyle stared, he slowly lowered the kitchen knife.

"...What?"

He looked at the dead monster, then at the knife in his hand.

That attack had felt completely natural.

Too natural.

Kyle had not used any skill. He had not even put much strength into the attack.

He had simply moved.

But the result was completely different from what he expected.

Kyle was only Level 15, he became level 15 after he changed class.

Normally, there was a considerable difference between a Level 15 adventurer and a Level 20 monster. Even among the stronger adventurers in Lufast City, most members of the top groups were around Level 15.

Yet he had just killed a Level 10 monster with a kitchen knife.

And he had done it almost effortlessly. Kyle’s grip tightened around the knife.

’Is this because of the Berserker Class?’

He remembered the strange changes that had occurred after he accepted the class change. His body had become stronger, his senses sharper, and his physical power had increased dramatically.

But he had never actually tested the limits of his new class.

Until now.

’How strong am I actually?’

Kyle’s expression became complicated.

He had deliberately hidden his Berserker class because he did not want unnecessary attention. He had wanted to remain a porter, quietly traveling with the Black Vanguard while secretly growing stronger.

Then he heard a scream.

"Help!"

Kyle immediately looked up.

Not far away, a young adventurer had been knocked to the ground by another monster. His sword had been thrown several meters away, and the monster was already raising its claws above him.

The young adventurer desperately tried to crawl backward.

"Someone help me!"

The surrounding soldiers were too far away. Nobody could reach him in time. Kyle hesitated for only a moment.

Then he ran.

He crossed the distance in several steps, grabbed the young adventurer by the back of his armor, and pulled him away just as the monster’s claws crashed into the ground.

BOOM!

The monster turned toward Kyle.

The young adventurer stared at him in shock.

"Y-You..."

Kyle ignored him.

His eyes remained fixed on the monster. He still had the kitchen knife in his hand.

For some reason, a strange excitement began to rise inside him.

His heart started beating faster, his muscles tightened.

And for the first time since obtaining the Berserker class, Kyle felt that something inside his body was beginning to awaken.

He smiled faintly.

’Maybe I should find out exactly what this class can do.’

The young adventurer behind him was still sitting on the ground, staring at the strange porter who had suddenly stepped between him and the monster. Kyle, however, had already forgotten about everything else around him. His attention was completely focused on the creature rushing toward him.

The kitchen knife in his hand felt too small.

Far too small.

He had used it to kill the previous monster, but facing another creature head-on made him realize just how ridiculous the weapon looked in his hand. He needed something better.
