Chapter 1131 – You Look Terrible

Lux’s eyes opened.

For one second, he did not move.

Not because he was calm. No. Absolutely not. Calm had packed its bags, left a resignation letter, and walked into traffic. He remained still because his soul had just received the ancient universal warning all sons understood regardless of species, realm, tax bracket, or demonic authority.

Mother knows something.

That was not instinct.

That was prophecy.

The room around him groaned.

Lux sat in Cyrinne’s private salon, except "sat" was generous. He had been thrown halfway across the velvet chair like someone had returned his soul by express delivery without checking fragile handling. One leg hung over the armrest. His coat was twisted. His hair fell over his eyes. His dignity was unavailable for comment.

Across from him, Cyrinne lay on the carpet, one arm over her face, green-black magic flickering weakly around her like embarrassed smoke.

The room looked destroyed.

Not fully destroyed. Cyrinne’s wards had held enough to keep their bodies alive, which was technically important. But "intact" was now a very emotional word. One mirror had cracked from corner to corner. Another reflected the ceiling even though it faced the wall. The green flame in the glass bowl had gone sideways and was still burning horizontally with offended professionalism. The velvet curtains had wrapped themselves around a chair like they were traumatized.

Cyrinne lowered her arm. "You look terrible."

"You’re on the floor."

"I landed elegantly."

"You landed like a poisoned swan." Lux pushed himself upright with a low groan. His spirit had snapped back into his physical body too harshly. Everything felt slightly misfiled. Like his soul had returned, realized the office was messy, and shoved the documents into the wrong drawers just to meet deadline.

He rolled his shoulder.

Pain flickered.

Not serious.

Just insulting.

The wards above them finally collapsed with a soft shattering sound, green script dissolving into the air. The false-room labyrinth unraveled. The mirrors returned to reflecting things normally, though one of them was still showing Lux’s left profile with a two-second delay, which felt personally invasive.

Cyrinne pushed herself to sit, then glanced at the broken room. "My salon."

Lux looked around. "I’ll pay."

"You are not paying."

"I damaged property during joint illegal operations. It’s only fair."

"You got kissed by an ancient demoness in my salon’s remote projection route and then got us spiritually yeeted through my wards."

"Yeeted is not a legal term."

"It is now." ℴ

Lux stood carefully, straightening his coat. The fabric obeyed, mostly. He fixed his cuffs on instinct, because if one’s life was collapsing, one should at least present the collapse with decent tailoring.

Then the chill came again.

Sharper.

Darker.

Lux stopped.

Cyrinne noticed immediately. Her eyes narrowed. "You okay?"

"Yeah," Lux said slowly. "I just... felt something terrifyingly familiar."

Her posture shifted. "The king?"

"No."

"The demoness?"

Lux cringed.

Not fear.

Worse.

"No..." He looked toward the empty air as if somewhere in Greed territory a beautiful Lust queen had just sharpened her smile. "Feels like Mother’s anger."

Cyrinne blinked. "Huh?"

The air behind them opened.

Shadow folded inward, and she stepped through.

The demoness.

The room changed the moment she arrived. Not because she attacked. She did not need to. Her presence entered first, barefoot and powerful, dragging ancient pressure behind it. The cracked mirrors dimmed. The green flame bowed lower, horizontal no longer, now trembling upright like it had suddenly remembered manners. The velvet curtains stopped moving.

The demoness stood in the middle of Cyrinne’s ruined salon, still wrapped in shadow-silk that clung to her body like night with dangerous loyalty. The fabric had rearranged itself into something more deliberate now. Not quite a gown. Not quite armor. Bare shoulders. Dark markings glowing faintly along her collarbone and wrists. Long black hair fell around her in waves, but parts of it still floated as if gravity was a suggestion from someone she had never respected.

Her horns curved elegantly from her head, obsidian with silver cracks. Her red eyes found Lux immediately. "There you are, Little Greed."

Lux stared at her. Then, because apparently his survival instinct had been replaced by customer service, he smiled. "You surely found me fast."

"Your scent is not subtle."

Cyrinne rose slowly beside him.

She said nothing.

Her hand did not visibly form a weapon, but Lux could feel the Envy magic gathering under her skin. Escape route. Counterspell. Mirror decoy. Poisoned reflection. Probably three murder options and one emergency humiliation protocol.

The demoness glanced at Cyrinne.

Her smile softened, not kind, exactly. More like a blade choosing not to cut for historical reasons.

"Don’t worry," she said. "I won’t blame you for your ancestor’s crime."

Cyrinne went still.

The words landed deeper than expected.

Lux’s eyes shifted to her, but Cyrinne’s face had already closed. Elegant again. Envy mask polished in half a breath. Yet something behind her eyes tightened.

The demoness looked at the cracked mirrors around them. "Envy loved watching even then. Not all crimes require hands."

Cyrinne’s lips parted slightly.

Then closed.

Lux stepped half a pace forward before he realized it.

Not shielding.

Not entirely.

Just... standing there.

A stupid gesture, maybe. But his body moved anyway, placing himself slightly between Cyrinne and the demoness, not enough to insult either woman, but enough to say if old debts come due, they pass through me first.

The demoness noticed. Her red eyes warmed with wicked delight. "Oh?"

Lux said calmly, "Ancient family guilt can wait until after we are not standing in an illegal crime scene."

Cyrinne’s gaze flicked to him.

Something like gratitude passed through her face.

Small.

Gone fast.

The demoness laughed softly. "How gallant."

"I prefer financially reckless."

"Mm." Her eyes moved over him, slow enough to be rude and pleased enough to be worse. "Yes. You do smell reckless."

Lux’s spine remembered his mother again and almost tried to leave.

The demoness began walking toward him.

Slowly.

Every step was quiet, but the room reacted. Mirrors shivered. The carpet darkened beneath her bare feet. The air thickened with a scent like night flowers, warm skin, old power, and smoke after rain. Her gaze stayed on Lux like she had already decided where to place him in her personal schedule.
