GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2308: Replacement Theory.

Chapter 2308: Replacement Theory.

There is a saying that goes along the line, “If it has happened before, it can happen again.”

There is another saying that buttresses that saying. It is, “There is nothing new under the sky.”

What these sayings imply is that history repeats itself and we should look to the past to predict what is possible in the future. These sayings insist that one should learn from the past.

It is because she has learned from the past that she believes that it is possible for the god of justice to die. She is not the only judge who thinks this is possible.

Not only do judges think that it is possible for the god of justice to fall and for the church of justice to become a cult like the cult of blood, but some judges even consider replacing the god of justice. After all, that is the only way for them to become gods.

The thought of replacing the god of justice is either fueled by greed or a selfless longing to continue the work of the god of justice. Either way, it is an inevitable and natural thought that one will eventually have.

Replacing the god of justice is also the only way to make sure that the church of justice will remain even if the god of justice dies. So thinking of the replacement theory is not necessarily fueled by selfish ambition.

Even if someone has no ambition for power, it is normal to consider the mortality of gods once in a while. But apparently, Isaac has never had that thought and has never considered the possibility that the god of justice can die.

Isaac seems to have unparalleled faith in the power of the god of justice. It is why she gave up on trying to convince him about the seriousness of the situation and the importance of his victory.

She gave up on trying to make him accept her compliment, but she couldn’t help but think to herself in amusement about how interesting it is that someone who has been walking in the same footsteps of the god of justice and is turning himself into a perfect replacement for the god of justice has never considered replacing the god of justice.

She chuckled inwardly and said, “He is like a boy who adores his hero and doesn’t think his hero can do any wrong. He is so cute.”

She stole a glance at him again. He looked heroic and brave in his armor. It wasn’t just looks either. She knew that he was truly brave and powerful. It is why she likes him so much.

She had seen him display his power many times. Each time she sees his display of power, she likes him more and more.

Up till now, she has not regretted coming all the way as fast as possible when she heard that he was embroiled in battle and could be in danger. In fact, she is glad she came over so quickly because she gets to be close to him now and see him every day.

While she was mooning over Commander Isaac, the undefeated, news of their glorious victory spread all over the kingdom of Wessex. To the nobles, this news was like cold water poured over them in winter. The news made them shiver and sober up.

The small nobles realized that the judges were not as easy to defeat as the large nobles told them they would be. The disastrous defeat made some nobles begin to reconsider their participation in this war.

The royals and the king were as silent as ever, but many large nobles refused to back down. Instead of easing things between them and the church of justice, they began investing more into the war.

The powerful nobles also began pressuring the weak nobles to join the war. They even began pressuring other powerful nobles who had decided to stay neutral in the war.

The nobles in control of Reinfield City were part of the neutral group of nobles. Unfortunately, they were the minority, so they couldn’t resist the pressure of the other nobles.

In the past, the dukes of the Wessex kingdom had acted like the war was going to be easy to win. Their series of victories made other nobles believe that the war wasn’t a fight to the death but a quick opportunity to grab merit and make their family acquire noble titles.

During this time, the dukes hadn’t forced anyone to join the war. When the nobles of Reinfield City had chosen to abstain from the war, no one had forced them.

However, the tides have turned now. The Dukes have decided to go all out for victory because it is their only option.

The powerful nobles know that the curse of sin is standing above their heads like a guillotine. This curse states that anyone who kills the servants of the god of justice will surely die. So once they cross the god of justice, they have to win, or they will die.

They have realized that they can’t fight this war halfheartedly. They have become desperate since if they give the church of justice the slightest opportunity to resist, they will die.

So the powerful nobles stopped being polite and began forcing other nobles to join the war. They want to make sure that they win, or if they don’t win, everyone will go down with them.

The nobles of Reinfield City are merchants first and foremost. They don’t want to fight in war. In their opinion, that’s just a stupid thing to do.

Rather than fight a war, they would rather profit from it. What’s more, they are in the right position geographically to profit from this war.

Reinfield City is on the east of the kingdom of Wessex. They are actually on the border of the kingdom. This puts it close to the kingdom nearby and in a position to benefit from the exportation and importation of goods in and out of Wessex.
