GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2307: The Only Way To Ascend.

Chapter 2307: The Only Way To Ascend.

Commander Isaac heard her question and nodded as a reply without any delay. He was very confident and certain of his answer so it didn’t take him time to voice it.

He also said, “Yes, that’s right. I think we were always going to win the war. So I only did something that was eventually going to happen.”

His voice was unwavering as he said, “If I don’t do it, someone else will. We were always going to win somewhere and somehow.”

She shook her head and said, “It is good that you have unwavering faith. But not everyone is like you. Not everyone believed without a doubt that we were going to win this war.”

“In fact, many believers have been questioning their faith. They have had many reasons to do so too. This is all because of the plagues, suffering, earthquakes, and death that they have been experiencing for a while.”

“Many believers have been praying day and night for an end to their suffering. They have been praying to the god of justice for salvation, but it has not arrived. This made them lose faith. So your great victory is like light in the darkness.”

She said a lot, but Commander Isaac was not convinced. He snorted and said, “The fact that their faith was unwavering is all because they have weak faith. They shouldn’t be like that because there is nothing to worry about.”

“No matter how bad things get, the god of justice will always seek justice for us. Even if we die, we will go to his divine kingdom and live in peace forever and ever.”

“But the main reason why my faith is unwavering is because no one has been able to defeat the god of justice, and he is the strongest god in existence. If such a god promised that whoever kills a lamp bearer will surely die by fire, then there is nothing to worry about. We will surely win this war.”

His main source of faith is the fact that anyone who kills a judge or lamp bearer will surely die if the Fire of Sin divine ability is used on them. This is the promise of the god of justice, and it has stood strong ever since it was made.

This promise means that all the soldiers of their enemies who kill a judge or lamp bearer are setting themselves up for an easy death in the future.

This death will be so easy that a rank 3 judge with the Fire of Sin divine ability will be able to critically injure, if not kill, a rank 9 godclad who once killed a judge with the divine ability.

In this case, he has nothing to worry about because all of his enemies are dead men walking. As long as any enemy kills a judge or lamp bearer, they will be fighting the god of justice and will surely die.

With the god of justice constantly on their side and as long as good men continue to fight for justice, Commander Isaac doesn’t believe that the church of justice can lose at all. So he was not convinced by what she said.

She realized that she wouldn’t be able to convince him, so she smiled and said in admiration, “Your faith is admirable. I envy you sometimes.”

“I wish I could be fearless like you. But when I ask myself where the source of confidence of the nobles is for starting this war, I can’t help but feel some apprehension.”

“After all, it is already common knowledge that whoever kills a servant of the god of justice will surely die. Yet, these nobles still started a war with us.”

Commander dismissed her concerns with a wave of his hand and said, “They are just foolish. Pride had made them foolish. They will lose and be put in their place.”

She just nodded and didn’t say anything more.

She still had a lot more to say, though. In particular, she wanted to point out that every war like this usually had a divine being involved in one way or another.

From what she has learned, these divine beings usually use the war to scheme against the god of justice. They either do it to weaken him or injure him.

This was the case the last time someone supported a war against the Church of Justice in order to distract him and create an opportunity for the authority of the Pathway of Killing to be taken. So there is something worth worrying about concerning this war.

She also knows that all of these divine beings failed in their scheme. But not before causing a lot of death and destruction. So she can’t relax just because the god of justice is likely to come out on top again.

Besides, there is also the blasphemous thought that the god of justice might fail and be defeated. If that were to happen, then the repercussions of this war would be worse than death and destruction.

She is not the only one who has considered this blasphemous thought. Many powerful godclads in the church of justice have had it recently.

This is because as they grow powerful, it becomes more and more difficult for believers not to entertain the fact that they too can become gods and might even be able to become a god as powerful as the god of justice.

This is something inevitable. It is especially rampant in godclads who have managed to become legends.

Legendary godclads know that it will be very difficult to become a god. But they also know that they can become a god, and some of them even know how to become gods.

These thoughts make gods less mysterious and more approachable. It doesn’t help that gods can be killed and replaced.

This is why she can’t help but say to herself, “If the god of killing, who everyone thought was the strongest and no one thought was possible to kill, can die, then the god of justice can die too and the church of justice can become the cult of justice.”
