Chapter 322: Chapter 250: You Have Unleashed a True Demon

"The only thing we can do now is stall for as long as possible and wait for Xiaowu to return. That’s the only way Miss Bai has a chance. Otherwise, I’m afraid she won’t be able to take it and might die from the shock right then and there."

Everyone listened, their expressions grim.

Xie San looked around at everyone, then said in a grave voice, "So, we have to keep this a secret for now. Where is Uncle Bai’s wonton cart?"

"I’ve already had my men tow it to an unused courtyard," Wen Yunlong replied immediately.

"Good. From now on, don’t let your guard down. Patrol Flower Square and be on high alert for any more infiltrators from the East Sea."

"Yes!"

After giving her orders, Xie San left. No one knew where she went.

But a grim, murderous tension fell over all of Flower Square.

Although the news was being kept under wraps for the time being, Wen Yunlong still called back all the brothers who were on leave, arranging them into shifts for patrols.

Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the men from the East Sea, a fierce argument was taking place.

Ota Masayuki, red in the face, pounded the table and roared at Ono Shunyu, "Ono! Do you have any idea what you’re doing?"

"Of course I do. I’m serving the Monarch!" Ono Shunyu retorted, not backing down an inch.

"Serving the Monarch? So you served him by sending men to torture Wu Liangchen’s father-in-law to death?" Ota Masayuki was practically beside himself with anger. "Don’t you realize this means we’ve made an un-reconcilable enemy of him? From now on, it’s a fight to the death between us!"

Ono Shunyu, however, was dismissive. "Ota, you think too highly of this Wu Liangchen. You’re practically afraid of him."

"He was already an enemy of our East Sea. Now that we’ve taken over the Huangpu Guard, isn’t it perfectly normal to start by targeting the people closest to him?"

"The only reason I didn’t was because we were in a hurry. Otherwise, I was ready to send troops straight into Flower Square, capture his sister and his lover, and bring them back for us to enjoy!" Ono Shunyu said with a laugh.

Ota Masayuki was speechless.

He suddenly realized there was no way to communicate with such an arrogant, conceited fool.

He sank back into his chair, drained. After a long silence, he finally sighed and said, "Even if you were going to kill his father-in-law, couldn’t you have just done it quickly? Why did you have to have him tortured to death?"

"That part wasn’t my order. My subordinates must have misunderstood," Ono Shunyu said dismissively.

Ota Masayuki struggled to his feet and turned to leave, but Ono Shunyu called out to him.

"Ota, where are you going?"

"Heh. Since you won’t listen to my advice, Ono, I’m naturally going to leave. But for the sake of our long acquaintance, I’ll leave you with a warning."

Ota Masayuki turned his head and said coldly to Ono Shunyu, "You have just unleashed a true demon. If the Monarch’s great cause suffers setbacks—or even fails—because of your arrogance, I hope you don’t regret it."

Having said that, Ota Masayuki wasted no more words and walked straight out.

Ono Shunyu, however, was completely unfazed, even sneering to himself. ’That Ota Masayuki gets more pathetic with age. A Warrior of the Monarch, scared out of his wits by that Wu Liangchen. It’s shameful.’

After his muttered complaint, he clapped his hands lightly, and someone entered at once.

"Relay my orders: investigate Wu Liangchen’s whereabouts. The moment you have eyes on him, kill him on sight!"

"Yes, sir!"

And so, as the night over the Huangpu Guard began to seethe with activity from the orders of both sides, a figure was cutting through the darkness at an incredible speed.

Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, looking toward the distant sky with a flicker of surprised uncertainty.

’Strange... why have I been feeling so uneasy? Could something have happened in the Huangpu Guard?’

With that thought, Wu Liangchen’s desire to return home became a burning fire. Wasting no more time, he pushed himself to his absolute limit, racing toward the city that was now faintly visible on the horizon.
