Chapter 321: Chapter 250: You Have Unleashed a True Demon (Part 2)

Looking at the innocently smiling Bai Erya, Xie San felt a pain like a knife twisting in her heart. It was as if she was witnessing the cruelest of life’s tragedies.

On one side was the daughter, oblivious and beaming with joy; on the other, the father, his body covered in wounds, lying lifeless in the cold snow.

When these two images appeared before her, even Xie San, who had witnessed the fickle nature of the world and the treachery of men since she was a child, found it almost unbearable.

She did everything in her power to remain composed, but her voice still trembled slightly and uncontrollably.

"Alright!"

Bai Erya and Wu Mengchan didn’t notice anything amiss. Only Yang Lian’Er, who was holding the large tongs, seemed to sense something and glanced up at her.

Xie San lowered her head, hiding her reddened eyes, and picked up a piece of meat to eat.

In truth, she had no appetite at all. Even the freshly grilled, succulent beef tasted like wax in her mouth.

Yang Lian’Er’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t know what had happened to make Third Brother so dejected.

But she was smart enough to pretend she hadn’t noticed, continuing to chat and laugh cheerfully.

After forcing herself to keep up the pretense for a few more moments, Xie San finally couldn’t take it anymore. She stood up and said, "I’m going to take a walk outside, see if anything’s going on."

"Ah, is that all you’re eating?" Bai Erya tried to get her to stay.

But at that moment, Xie San couldn’t bring herself to look into Erya’s innocent eyes. She made a quick excuse and hastily left the small, fragrant courtyard.

"That’s strange. What’s wrong with Third Brother?" Wu Mengchan had also noticed something was wrong, her voice tinged with suspicion.

"It’s probably because of what’s happened these past two days," Yang Lian’Er explained. "After all, the people from the East Sea Nation have invaded Huangpu Guard, and business at Flower Square has been hit hard."

Bai Erya didn’t say a word. She was focused on tackling the grilled meat on her plate.

The way she was raised made her unwilling to waste even a single scrap of food, let alone expensive beef like this.

She had only one thought in her mind.

’When Father gets back, I’ll make some grilled meat for him too, so he can taste how delicious it is.’

At the same time, Xie San walked out of the alley of the fragrant courtyard.

Wen Yunlong and a group of his brothers were waiting, standing in the cold wind. Frozen tear tracks still stained his face.

When he saw Xie San, he took a step forward and broke down in tears before he could even speak.

"Th-Third Brother, you have to go see Uncle Bai. The East Sea Nation... those bastards, they’re not even human!"

When Xie San arrived at a small room by the street, a rest spot for the night patrol brothers, she immediately saw a person lying on the bed.

Xie San stumbled forward and saw a face, contorted and grotesque from pain.

Though his features were warped, Xie San recognized him instantly.

It was Uncle Bai.

But this old man, who smiled at everyone and lived by the motto that harmony brings wealth, was now silent and still—a cold corpse.

With a trembling hand, Xie San raised the lamp to look further down...

(I had written a paragraph here, but I ended up deleting it. It was too cruel, and I couldn’t bear to write it.)

Even though Xie San had been mentally prepared, seeing the tragic scene for herself ignited a towering rage within her.

’These scum, these animals!’

Xie San clenched her jaw, wishing she could charge into the East Sea camp right now and slaughter every last one of the perpetrators.

But the last shred of her reason held her back.

’If I do that, it will mean utter annihilation for Flower Square.’

After all, those colossal ships floating on the sea were not just for show.

"Who found Uncle Bai first?" Xie San asked in a low voice.

"I did!" one of the younger brothers stepped forward.

"Tell me exactly what happened. Don’t leave anything out."

"Yes. There wasn’t much happening in the Square today, so I went to have a few drinks with friends. Afterwards, I was on my way back to my place when I faintly heard something whimpering in the distance."

"I didn’t think much of it at the time and kept walking. Then I saw Uncle Bai’s wonton cart by the side of the road, smashed to pieces. I knew something was wrong and was about to call the brothers over, but then I saw several dark figures leap over the rooftops and disappear into the darkness."

"I ran into an alley in the direction they came from, and that’s when I found Uncle Bai lying on the ground."

As he finished, the man’s voice grew agitated, clearly reliving the scene.

"Was Uncle Bai still alive then?" Xie San asked.

"No."

Xie San fell silent.

Everyone else present fell silent as well.

Suddenly, Wen Yunlong slammed his fist on a nearby table and roared, "I can’t take this anymore! Third Brother, give the order! Let’s go avenge Uncle Bai right now!"

"Yeah, Third Brother, give the order! If we don’t get this off our chests, I won’t be able to sleep!"

"Other people might be afraid of those East Sea bastards, but I’m not! Even if I die today, I have to get justice for Uncle Bai!"

Amid the rising tide of fury, Xie San, however, grew progressively calmer.

"Rest assured, I’ve already sent Yan Feng to find out who did this," Xie San said sternly. "Flower Square will repay this debt tenfold. If I break this oath, may heaven and earth strike me down!"

"But for now, all of you need to calm down. Miss Bai doesn’t know yet. If your agitation causes her to find out about the horrific fate her father suffered, the consequences will be unimaginable."
