Chapter 323: Chapter 251: Reaping the Interest, Let the Blades Dance

It was very late, but Bai Erya was still awake, waiting anxiously.

At the slightest sound from outside, she would immediately rush to the window and look out.

But each time, she was met with disappointment.

Seeing this, Wu Mengchan couldn’t help but console her. "Sister Erya, don’t worry. Uncle Bai’s business was probably just booming, that’s why he’s delayed. I’m sure he’ll be back in a little while."

Bai Erya felt a little more at ease upon hearing this, but her face remained full of worry. "Mm, I’m not worried... but it’s so late. He should be back by now."

It was already the early hours of the morning. In the past, no matter how good business was, he would have been home long before now.

But now there was still no word from him, so of course, Bai Erya was frantic.

After waiting for another fifteen minutes, seeing that her father still hadn’t returned, Bai Erya finally couldn’t wait any longer. She threw on a padded jacket and headed out the door.

"Sister Erya, I’ll go with you," Wu Mengchan said, hurrying to follow.

It was late, and even though they were in Third Brother’s main territory, Wu Mengchan didn’t feel safe letting Bai Erya go out by herself.

’She’s my future sister-in-law, after all.’

But just as the two women stepped out of the courtyard, they saw Wen Yunlong emerge from the shadows beside the gate, a wide smile plastered on his face as he greeted them.

"Ladies, why are you heading out so late?"

"I’m going to find my father. By the way, Brother Yunlong, have you seen him?" Bai Erya asked.

The light was dim, so neither Bai Erya nor Wu Mengchan noticed the momentary lapse in Wen Yunlong’s composure.

He recovered quickly, however, and forced a smile. "Of course I saw him. In fact, Third Brother summoned Uncle Bai. Said he invited him for a drink to discuss something. He probably won’t be back tonight."

Upon hearing this, even though Bai Erya felt a faint sense of unease, her trust in Third Brother and Wen Yunlong allowed a great weight to be lifted from her mind.

"Oh, so that’s what happened. I feel much better now! But Brother Yunlong, do you know what Third Brother wanted to discuss with my father?"

"That, I don’t know. But I’d guess it’s something important." Wen Yunlong suppressed his inner grief and answered vaguely.

After watching the two women turn and go back inside, Wen Yunlong stood silently in the darkness for a long while before finally speaking in a low voice.

"Secure this courtyard. If Miss Bai tries to leave again, use any means necessary to stop her."

"But what if we can’t stop her?" one of the young men following behind Wen Yunlong couldn’t help but ask, his expression troubled.

For men like them, facing a life-or-death battle with cold steel wouldn’t make them bat an eye, but this kind of task was utterly daunting.

Especially since she was Brother Xiaowu’s woman. That made it even more difficult.

"If you can’t stop her, then die!" Wen Yunlong was in a foul mood. After spitting out the icy words, he turned and left, leaving his men to stare at each other in stunned silence, not daring to say another word.

Meanwhile, Third Brother met with Yan Feng.

"Well? Did you find anything?"

"Yes. The perpetrators were the same group of East Sea ronin who clashed with Uncle Bai before. Among them were also Warriors from the East Sea Kingdom, newly stationed in Huangpu Guard. Here are their names. They’re all on this list." Yan Feng pulled a piece of paper from his robes and handed it to Third Brother.

Third Brother took the paper and read it carefully. Then, turning to Yan Feng, who was covered in wind-blown snow, she said, "You’ve worked hard."

To have gathered such detailed information in so little time was no small feat. Even though Flower Square now controlled nearly the entire Huangpu Guard underworld, it was still a significant challenge. It was easy to imagine the effort Yan Feng had expended.

"You’re too kind, Third Brother. This was all for Uncle Bai. This little bit of hardship is nothing," Yan Feng said solemnly.

Third Brother said no more, merely nodding before turning her gaze to the others in the room.

Gathered in the room were the elites of Flower Square, the capable subordinates she had cultivated over the years.

Her gaze swept over their solemn, grief-stricken young faces before she began to speak slowly.

"Uncle Bai is dead. He died at the hands of the East Sea people. For us at Flower Square, this is an utter humiliation. Right now, all eyes in Huangpu Guard are on us. If we fail to respond, we can forget about ever holding our heads high again."

Although Third Brother had given strict orders to keep the news under wraps, you can’t wrap a fire in paper. Combined with the East Sea faction’s loud proclamations, the news had already spread like wildfire. By now, the entire Huangpu Guard underworld must have known.

Hearing Third Brother’s words, the men in the room erupted in an uproar.

"Third Brother, just give the order! Are we going to go kill those sons of bitches right now?" someone demanded impatiently.

"That’s right, Third Brother! Just say the word. I, Yang Wu, would walk through fire for you without a second thought!"

Faced with their passionate outburst, Third Brother’s eyes grew moist.

’What a good group of young men. So sincere, and so full of a sense of justice. In these chaotic times, such qualities are especially precious.’

But it was precisely for this reason that she shook her head. "No. We cannot be reckless. If we act rashly... it’s one thing for you and me, but the entire Flower Square could face annihilation."

As soon as she said this, the fervent atmosphere in the room instantly dropped to freezing.

"Then what should we do, Third Brother?" someone couldn’t help but ask.

"A direct confrontation is too risky," Third Brother said. "So we’ll find a way to assassinate them. As long as we’re not caught in the act, who’s to say who the killer was?"
