Chapter 572
Every step of his seemed to tread on the very tips of the villagers’ hearts, making them feel unprecedented fear and despair.
"Stop," right at that moment, a crisp and firm voice suddenly rang out, like the brightest star in the night sky, piercing through all the chaos and clamor.
Everyone looked toward the source, a young girl dressed in plain clothes stood not far away, her eyes clear and resolute.
She was none other than Morwen, the girl closest to Adam.
"Young Master Noel, acting this way will only make more people resent you, not revere you," Morwen’s voice was not loud, but it clearly reached everyone’s ears, her tone was full of sincerity and admonition.
"You are the young master of the Gavel family, possessing endless wealth and status, why must you choose such a path of no return?"
Noel couldn’t help but freeze, he was still somewhat fearful of Adam.
When his gaze touched the faintly glowing protective jade pendant in Morwen’s hand, a trace of dread flashed through his eyes, that jade pendant, said to be personally given to Morwen by Adam, not only contained powerful spiritual energy but was also Adam’s silent protection over her.
He knew that if he truly made an enemy of Adam now, the consequences would be unimaginable, especially since he had just laid hands on the villagers, if Adam returned, he definitely wouldn’t let him off easily.
"Hmph, Miss Morwen, do you think a mere jade pendant is enough to scare me off?" A cold sneer hooked the corners of Noel’s mouth, but his tone carried more restraint.
"Today’s matter was merely a misunderstanding, I, Noel, am not an unreasonable person, but if you dare obstruct my plans again, don’t blame me for being merciless."
With that, he turned and shot a look at his subordinates, signaling them to retreat, although unwilling, they understood their master’s intentions, they put away their weapons and slowly retreated behind Noel, vigilantly looking around to guard against unforeseen events.
The villagers were initially stunned, but then their eyes lit up one by one, hope ignited in their hearts, they had never expected this sudden disaster to be quelled so swiftly.
Old Man Corvin was quickly helped up by several villagers, blood had dyed his clothes red, but his eyes flickered with the relief of surviving a calamity.
Morwen gripped the jade pendant tightly, looking firmly at Noel’s retreating back, she secretly resolved to protect this village well and not let any evil forces disturb it again.
As night fell, the village returned to its former tranquility, but unease still permeated the air, the villagers sat around the bonfire, discussing animatedly, all worrying about whether Noel would make a comeback.
"Morwen, can that jade pendant really protect us?" Old Man Corvin asked weakly, his face full of worry.
Morwen nodded gently, "Uncle Corvin, rest assured, Brother Zeon said this jade pendant can sense surrounding danger and will do its best to protect us, but more importantly, we must unite and face our difficulties together."
The villagers nodded in agreement, they began to band together more closely, preparing to face the challenges that might come.
However, Noel had not truly given up, returning to his mansion, his heart was filled with indignation and fury, he knew that relying solely on force could not completely conquer this village, he had to find a more cunning method.
Thus, he decided to secretly cause sabotage to test whether Adam truly cared about this village and whether he would show himself because of it.
A few days later, the village’s water source suddenly became extremely muddy, when the villagers fetched water, they found it mixed with a strange, foul odor, immediately after, the crops began to wither, and pests and diseases ran rampant, in a short time, the village plunged into an unprecedented predicament.
"This must be Young Master Noel’s doing," the villagers shouted angrily, unanimously guessing that Noel was secretly playing tricks.
Morwen stood at the village entrance, gazing at the withered fields and the anxious villagers, her heart filled with worry, she knew this was very likely Noel’s conspiracy, but she was even more worried about Adam’s safety, she was afraid Adam would be dragged into danger because of this.
Just when the villagers were at their wits’ end, Morwen made a decision, she decided to personally head to the Gavel mansion, confront Noel, and attempt to persuade him to stop his sabotage against the village.
"Morwen, you can’t go," the villagers advised one after another, "Young Master Noel is cruel and merciless, it will be dangerous if you go."
But Morwen’s mind was made up, she said firmly, "I must go, I cannot just watch the village suffer and remain indifferent, furthermore, I believe Brother Zeon would support my doing this."
Having said that, Morwen embarked on the journey to the Gavel mansion, her heart held both apprehension and resolve, she knew this would be a difficult negotiation, but she had to try for the village’s peace.
A little girl embarked on her journey all alone.
Inside the Gavel mansion, Noel was leisurely sipping tea, as if completely indifferent to the village’s predicament, when he learned of Morwen’s visit, he couldn’t help but reveal a playful smile.
"Oh? Miss Morwen is visiting in person? Truly a rare guest," Noel put down his teacup and stood up to welcome her.
Morwen walked into the main hall and looked straight into Noel’s eyes, saying without the slightest fear, "Young Master Noel, I came to ask you something, why did problems suddenly appear with the village’s water source and crops? Are you the one playing tricks behind all of this?"
Noel chuckled lightly and feigned innocence, "Why would Miss Morwen say such a thing? Although I, Noel, am no saint, I certainly wouldn’t do something so harmful to the heavens and against reason."
Morwen bit her lower lip and glared at Noel, "Young Master Noel, we both know full well that the village’s predicament is linked to you, I implore you to stop sabotaging the village and return to us a peaceful life."
Noel dropped his smile, his gaze turned icy, he slowly walked up to Morwen, leaning in close to her face.
"Miss Morwen, you are far too naive."
"Do you think just a few words can make me change my mind? Let me tell you, the fate of this village rests in my hands, as long as I wish it, I can make it vanish into nothingness in an instant."
