Chapter 573
Morwen did not back down, she looked Noel straight in the eye, "Young Master Noel, you might destroy the material world of this village, but you will never destroy people’s will and convictions, we will not yield to your threats, we will unite as one and face our difficulties together."
Noel paid it no mind, his face full of contempt, "Childish, without Zeon, you people are nothing, if you have the guts, call Zeon back."
"You..."
"You what? Men, see our guest out."
Noel waved his hand, signaling the guards to step forward, Morwen was rudely escorted out of the Gavel mansion’s gates, her eyes flickered with unyielding defiance and anger, but she knew that her strength alone was not enough to shake Noel’s decision.
As night fell, Morwen dragged her heavy footsteps back to the village, the villagers anxiously gathered around to ask about the results, but from her deeply furrowed brows and silence, they had already guessed the answer.
In the days that followed, Noel’s methods became even more vicious, first, he cut off all the village’s connections with the outside world, preventing necessities like food and medicine from being transported in, plunging the villagers into dire straits.
Immediately after, he secretly colluded with a group of desperadoes, disguising them as bandits to attack the village at night, they plundered remaining resources and even injured and killed people, shrouding the entire village in panic.
Faced with this disaster, the villagers did not give up, they banded together even more closely, jointly defending against the external enemies.
Morwen stepped forward prominently, utilizing her wisdom and courage, she organized the villagers to build defensive fortifications, formulated patrol plans, and personally taught the children how to protect themselves during a crisis.
Her busy figure could be seen in every corner of the village, becoming the light of hope in the villagers’ hearts.
However, just when the villagers thought they could barely hold on, Noel finally bared his true fangs.
One early morning, the village was jolted awake by a burst of clamor, a squad of fully armed soldiers had surrounded the village, with Noel personally leading them, a smug smile plastered across his face.
He announced that because the village was suspected of harboring a rebel, according to imperial law, all villagers had to be arrested and brought to justice as a warning to others.
The villagers cried out in alarm, they knew that once they fell into Noel’s hands, survival would be impossible.
Morwen was burning with anxiety, she knew that given her family’s deep ties with Adam, they would be the primary target of Noel’s retaliation.
But she did not back down, she stepped forward and attempted to reason with Noel, hoping to find a shred of humanity in his ruthlessness.
"Young Master Noel, our village has abided by the law for generations, we have never done anything illegal, how can you frame us like this?" Morwen’s voice sounded exceptionally firm in the chilling morning wind.
Noel sneered, eyes full of disdain, "Miss Morwen, why must you be so stubbornly foolish? As long as Zeon is not eliminated, I will not have a single day of peace, today’s action is merely killing the chicken to warn the monkeys, letting everyone know the consequences of crossing me."
Morwen wanted to say more, but she was roughly shoved to the ground by a soldier, she watched helplessly as her parents, siblings, and the villagers were put in shackles one by one and escorted onto prison carts, her heart was filled with despair and fury.
Noel looked at the little girl with cold eyes, she had the protective jade pendant, but the others did not, since this village dared to oppose him, there was no longer any need for it to exist.
At this moment, Adam was actually not very far from the village, he was in the military camp of another dynasty, because this dynasty was about to invade another, Adam had come to stop them.
The setting sun was as red as blood, shining on the military camp’s banners and looking exceptionally piercing.
Adam stood at the entrance of the camp, his gaze like a torch, looking straight at the generals clad in armor and gripping their weapons.
"Are you really going to sacrifice innocent lives for national interests?" Adam’s voice was deep and powerful, every word was like a heavy hammer striking the generals’ hearts.
A general furrowed his brows and sighed, "Zeon, do you know the difficulties our dynasty faces? Resources are scarce, and the people are living in destitution, we are forced to do this."
"Forced to?" Adam sneered, "Is there really no other way? War will only bring more pain and destruction, have you never considered that?"
Another general stepped forward, helplessness in his eyes, "How could we not know? But this is our only choice, we don’t want to invade other countries, but we can’t just watch our dynasty fall into a desperate situation."
Adam shook his head, his gaze growing firmer, "No, you still have a choice, abandon war and seek a peaceful resolution, I can help you, I will use my strength to convince the leaders of that dynasty to sit down and negotiate."
"Furthermore, I will use my abilities to help you resolve your domestic crisis."
The generals exchanged glances, clearly surprised, but they understood that Adam’s strength was beyond doubt, if he truly wanted to forcefully stop this war, they likely couldn’t resist him.
"Zeon, are... are you really willing to help us?" A general’s voice trembled slightly, clearly moved by Adam’s sincerity.
Adam nodded, his tone full of determination, "Of course, I am willing to strive for peace, I hope you can also lay down your weapons and join me in stopping this unnecessary war."
The generals were silent for a moment before nodding one after another, they knew Adam was right, war was never the best solution, only through peaceful means could the dispute truly be resolved.
"Alright! We will listen to you," the generals said in unison, they turned and ordered the soldiers to lay down their weapons and prepare to withdraw.
Watching this scene, a warm current welled up in Adam’s heart, he knew his efforts had not been in vain, he had used his strength and sincerity to successfully prevent an unnecessary war.
"Zeon, you did great."
Beside him, the woman in the white dress smiled gently.
"Yeah, this feeling is great," Adam smiled and nodded, he looked at the white-dressed woman’s gentle face.
