Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 383 - 190: Core Units (Part 2)
Unfortunately, firearms required technological support. They all had prerequisites, meaning he had to climb the tech tree. Li Ziyu’s plan was to figure all of this out. ’Once I do, my combat power will skyrocket!’
’Screw your Knights and Cavalry, your Heavy Warriors and light infantry! Just wait until I get guns. I’ll mow you all down from a distance!’
Besides the individual combat Weapons from the Weapon Research Room, he also discovered new military buildings, such as a Tank Manufacturing Plant and a Cavalry training camp. Just hearing the names sounded so grand and impressive; it filled him with an irresistible urge to build them!
War vehicles!
Just listen!
Catapults, tanks, armored cars, you name it!
’Sci-fi theme? Who cares! As long as it’s powerful, I’m all in. I have to build these.’
’System, if you can hook me up with a nuke, I wouldn’t care one bit about being the Undead Race. Heck, what even is a Race at that point? I’d rule this Otherworld! Anyone who looks at me funny, I’ll just pull a Teemo and plant mushrooms everywhere. I’ll send their entire family to meet their ancestors!’
This was exactly why Li Ziyu couldn’t sleep after lying low for so long. He was just too excited.
Besides the new Weapons, a particular building also caught Li Ziyu’s eye. No, not just one building—it was a series, or rather, a whole set. The core building was called the Soul Base Station.
[Soul Base Station]
[Introduction: A node for the Soul Network. A Soul Base Station allows the Soul Network to connect to more distant locations, creating a more expansive web of connection points. Don’t underestimate the Soul Base Station—it’s an extremely important building for the Undead Race!]
[Construction Requirements: Skeleton x10,000, Soul Energy x10,000, Spiritual Core x1]
This thing was basically a signal tower from his past life—a kind of relay station.
Skeleton Undead were incapable of speech. They communicated entirely through the Soul Network, which was generated by their Soul Fires. If the distance between them became too great, the Soul Fire connection would break, and the Soul Network would become unusable—just like a cell phone losing its signal.
The Soul Network actually had another huge drawback: its load capacity. Strictly speaking, the Soul Network was just a link between Soul Fires. Information transmission was fast and convenient, but the more information sent, the greater the strain. If it reached its limit, a Soul Fire could be extinguished.
The more powerful the Undead, the stronger its Soul Fire and the more information it could handle. But even they had their limits. This was why Skeleton Warriors could serve as commanders.
As the number of Undead grew, managing them became increasingly difficult. An army of millions of Undead was a burden, but tens of millions, hundreds of millions, or even more would be catastrophic. Strategic plans could become a complete joke due to information bottlenecks, with orders from command failing to reach the front lines and the Low Level Undead below left without effective guidance.
But with the Soul Base Station, he had a relay point. It could break up congested information and broadcast it out, ensuring the Soul Network could reach farther and that Undead over a wider area could receive commands. In other words, it provided the very foundation for ultra-long-range command and control!
The importance of information transmission speed in warfare was self-evident.
Li Ziyu was finally beginning to understand why legends referred to the Undead as the "White Tide," and why it was said that this tide could sweep across the entire world.
The existence of the Soul Base Station allowed orders to reach their destinations more efficiently. This let High Level Undead control Low Level Undead with greater ease, unleashing far greater combat power.
The Soul Base Station was the core building. A host of other structures could be built around it—defensive towers, supply points, troop depots, and more. One could essentially construct an entire Undead stronghold centered on a Soul Base Station!
The Mobile Fortress’s greatest advantage was its mobility. It allowed a Transmigrator to roam freely across the Otherworld. With enough cunning, a commander could ensure their enemies never even found them, using guerrilla warfare to frustrate their opponents to tears.
But the Mobile Fortress’s greatest weakness was also its mobility. It was difficult to carve out a true territory of one’s own. The moment it stopped, it gave away its location to the enemy. If it were to be surrounded, it would become an isolated fortress, unable to find any reinforcements.
The arrival of the Soul Base Station gave Li Ziyu a completely new strategic option. He could continue to wage guerrilla warfare, but now he could also use Soul Base Stations to establish permanent Undead garrisons, increasing his control over specific regions. Even if his Fortress was besieged, he could summon reinforcements from these other locations to break the encirclement.
No wonder the system’s Introduction described the Soul Base Station as one of the Undead Race’s most important buildings.
’Should I test it out?’
’Yeah, I have to give it a try!’
Without hesitation, Li Ziyu chose to build a Soul Base Station in the Wraith Mountain Range.
He didn’t build it on the Bone Plate Platform. The Wraith Mountain Range was still home to many Wild Beasts and Magical Beasts, so he dispatched some Skeleton Undead to guard the new construction. This was to prevent it from being destroyed, as the main structure of the Soul Base Station was made of bone, which held a great attraction for some of the Wild Beasts.
Once the Soul Base Station was under construction, Li Ziyu turned his attention to researching how to unlock the guns and cannons in the Weapon Research Room. ’Those things are absolute game-changers,’ he thought.
The firearms were divided into several categories: some were relatively normal, others were Magic-based, and there were even types that resembled Biotechnology. Since this was the Otherworld, the Magic-based weapons were comparatively more potent and powerful, though their research costs were also higher.
