Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 382 - 190: Core Units
"Ahhh~ That was a great sleep!"
Li Ziyu sat up, yawned, and stretched. He felt completely refreshed.
After entering Hibernation Mode, Li Ziyu hadn’t felt sleepy at all. He had spent a long time studying the new buildings, technologies, and unit types in the system, only going to bed when his eyelids started to tremble with exhaustion.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, his Spirit was fully restored.
As he woke, blue flames ignited on the surrounding walls. Though they had taken on a brick-and-stone form, the Skeleton Undead were still Skeleton Undead, and their Soul Fires served as natural lamps.
The ignition of the Soul Fires alerted the Cat Girl Sisters next door. Knowing their master was awake, they immediately began to prepare his toiletries and instructed the Undead to get food ready. They had become very proficient at this routine, a far cry from the frantic fumbling when they first arrived.
"Time to wash up, Master," Mengmeng said, full of energy as she bounced into the room carrying a towel, a cup, and a toothbrush for Li Ziyu.
Behind her, Meng Ni walked in with a washbasin, a gentle smile on her face, and stood before Li Ziyu.
Li Ziyu nodded with a smile and washed his face with the warm water. Afterward, an Undead served him roasted meat and fruit.
"Eat with me," Li Ziyu said to Mengmeng and Meng Ni. The two Cat Girls acknowledged his invitation, put away the toiletries, and then sat down at the table to eat with him.
According to the customs of the Otherworld, although Meng Ni and Mengmeng weren’t Slaves, they were still considered servants and didn’t have the right to eat at the same table as their master. But Li Ziyu wasn’t from the Otherworld. He didn’t care for such rules and wasn’t so harsh with the two Cat Girls. At first, they found it awkward, but after Li Ziyu insisted repeatedly, they slowly grew accustomed to it.
After they finished their meal, night once again fell upon the land. Li Ziyu declared an end to the Hibernation, and a new day began!
The Fortress’s main tower, the Great Tomb, and various other buildings rose one by one. Blue Soul Fires flickered like countless glowing lamps. Ghosts eagerly burst from their Soul Coffins; some lingered above the Fortress, while others flew out into the Wasteland. The Gargoyles shrieked under the moonlight as they awoke from their stone forms, and the Flying Gargoyles flapped their wings, ascending into the sky like a flock of giant bats.
The Tabu Minotaurs emerged from their newly built houses. They glanced at the moonlight, then at the reawakened Undead, and grinned simple, honest smiles before going about their business. They couldn’t be more satisfied with their current lives.
They had food to eat, water to drink, and could even exchange for new clothes at the Fortress’s public Warehouse. Even their houses were brand-new, built with wood and stone—far sturdier than their old homes, shielding them from wind and rain. For a small Tribe like theirs, such a life was previously unimaginable.
This was all thanks to the changes brought by the Undead!
The Undead weren’t as terrifying as the legends claimed. In fact, under the rule of the Undead, their lives were only getting better.
Once, during a casual chat, a Tabu Minotaur had asked Tas Tuling why the Undead were so good to them. Why didn’t they just kill them? Didn’t the Undead need corpses? Even if they weren’t killed, as dependents, they shouldn’t be receiving such good treatment, right?
At the time, Tas Tuling had simply smiled and explained that the Undead did indeed need corpses, but the Wraith Mountain Range had more than enough—they weren’t short a few bodies. Besides, even without the Wraith Mountain Range, the Undead most likely wouldn’t have killed them anyway.
The Minotaur, not understanding, pressed further. Tas Tuling simply smiled and explained, "It’s quite easy to grasp. If they killed us, all they’d get are a few corpses. But by letting us live, we can continuously bear more children. We will all die of old age eventually, and when that day comes, our bodies will belong to the Undead. Our children will then grow up, have children of their own, and also die of old age. The Lord City Lord calls this ’sustainable development.’"
The Minotaur was stunned. ’They can even do it like that?’ He then continued to ask, "But even so, they don’t need to treat us this well, do they? Wouldn’t it be enough to just let us barely survive?"
Tas Tuling laughed again and gestured for Mumu to speak. As the Clan Leader, Mumu was naturally eager to show off his understanding, so he explained, "Only by living well can we raise more children, allowing for better ’sustainable development.’ Besides, and this is the most important part, the Undead don’t care about the little we consume."
That last sentence was the absolute truth!
The Undead truly didn’t care about the trivial resources the Tabu Minotaurs consumed. Or rather, aside from Skeletons and Soul Energy, everything else was extraneous to the Undead—expendable. They didn’t feel the slightest pinch giving things to the Tabu Minotaurs.
Besides their Ancestors, the person the Tabu Minotaurs now trusted most was Li Ziyu, the Undead City Lord. He was truly reliable.
After exiting Hibernation Mode, Li Ziyu remained in his room to study the new features. He realized this upgrade had brought him far too many pleasant surprises. ’Yesterday was just the beginning!’
The Weapon Workshop and Armor Workshop had finished upgrading; they were now the Weapon Research Room and Armor Research Room. ’The equipment inside has also increased significantly. No, it’s not just a simple increase—the damn technology itself has been updated!’
In addition to many new melee weapons, all sorts of ranged weapons had been added—various firearms like Shotguns, rifles, and even Magic Hand Cannons. There was a whole pile of them, enough to make Li Ziyu drool.
’Although the sudden shift from a fantasy setting to a technological one feels a little awkward, might makes right. It doesn’t matter what kind of weapon it is—a good cat is one that catches mice, regardless of its color. And for a modern guy like me, who doesn’t love guns? This stuff is so convenient!’
