Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 367 185: Inside the Necropolis
As he walked, Li Ziyu noticed that the statues were different colors. The statues of the Undead he had already mastered—the Skeleton Undead, Skeleton Warriors, Skeleton Longbowmen, and Skeleton Short Bowmen—were all flawlessly white, with a smooth and glossy feel. The ones for troop types he hadn't seen or developed yet, however, looked like rough, gray, and unpleasantly coarse stone.
He walked forward for a long time, still in the corridor, still flanked by statues. Li Ziyu was starting to get impatient.
At first, the statues had seemed magnificent and novel, but after seeing so many, they felt less interesting. It was just more of the same, and walking was getting tiring.
'The entire inside of the Great Tomb can't just be one long display gallery, can it? What the hell did I even build?'
'I've walked this far; turning back now doesn't feel right. Besides, what would I say when Liu Xingxing and Zhang Peng ask about it?'
'Boss, what's inside that big black Pyramid of yours?'
'Oh, just a corridor lined with statues. Huh? What kind of statues? Just giant versions of Skeleton Undead...'
Li Ziyu cringed just thinking about that conversation.
'I'll just keep going. I have to see what's at the end of this thing.'
As he took another step, the scenery before him trembled slightly, and a circular archway several meters tall appeared. Beyond the archway was still nothing but Darkness.
Huh?!
This time, Li Ziyu didn't rush in. Instead, he stroked his chin.
'Something doesn't feel right. When I first came, I just had a thought, and the Great Tomb opened its doors. After I entered, I couldn't see anything, so I had another thought, and my Soul Fire lit up. Now, I'm sick of this corridor, and an archway just appears?'
He hadn't said any of this out loud. The first two times, he'd been too excited to notice, but this time he did.
'Is the Great Tomb alive? Can it read my mind?'
Li Ziyu's brows furrowed slightly. He didn't quite understand. He tilted his head back and looked around.
'Whatever, I'll set this aside for now,' he thought. 'First, I'll find out what's behind the archway. Hopefully, it leads straight to the core.' Li Ziyu stepped through the arch.
Torches flared to life, illuminating the scene before him. Li Ziyu looked up and around. It still resembled a Bone Storage Hall, with countless skulls arranged in neat rows. The gaps between the skulls were tidily filled with individual bones.
It was a vast space, about half the size of a soccer field. The floor was paved with flat tiles, and dark red lines formed a massive array. In the very center of the array sat a colossal throne.
Li Ziyu walked toward the throne. Standing before it, he was struck by its immense size. The backrest alone was five or six meters high. In front of the throne, Li Ziyu looked like a child.
'Was this thing made for a Giant?'
Grumbling inwardly, Li Ziyu walked up the steps and slowly sat on the throne.
BOOM!
A massive influx of information flooded directly into his mind. Stabbing pain lanced through his head, forcing him to double over and clutch his forehead.
After a good while, Li Ziyu finally recovered. He gasped for air, his tense body relaxing. The pain had left him drenched in sweat, but his eyes shone with joy.
'No wonder it's a Main City Level building. It's powerful, truly powerful!'
The recent information dump had been all about the Great Tomb. It contained every kind of detail imaginable, all of it crammed into his head at once. As of now, Li Ziyu had only finished receiving the information; he hadn't yet digested it.
Pushing himself upright with the armrests, Li Ziyu grew even more excited. This Great Tomb was a treasure trove!
The space inside the Great Tomb was different from how it appeared on the outside, something like a folded space. The interior was far larger than its external dimensions suggested, divided into all sorts of rooms. The room he was in was the central chamber, the most important one, and the throne was the "control console" for everything.
Besides serving as a control console, the throne had another ability: it could grant Li Ziyu the power to transform. At a critical moment, it could turn him into an Undead with immense combat Power!
Of course, to use this ability, Li Ziyu had to pay a price. Each transformation was equivalent to dying once. While he would gain immense Power, he would also lose his life. Fortunately, as a City Lord, he wouldn't truly die as long as his fortress stood.
The transformation ability was meant for critical moments; under normal circumstances, Li Ziyu would not use it.
And Li Ziyu's earlier guess was indeed correct: the building was alive. It possessed a "spirit." The spirit of the Great Tomb was completely loyal to Li Ziyu and could perceive his thoughts. Therefore, if Li Ziyu wanted to go to any location within the Great Tomb, the spirit could make it happen.
However, since the Great Tomb had just been built, the spirit was still very weak. It could control the Great Tomb, but it couldn't manifest a physical form or speak with Li Ziyu.
After receiving the information, Li Ziyu finally understood what the Great Tomb was. It was indeed a Main City Level building, but it was different from the Undead Main Tower. The Great Tomb was a defensive structure; nearly all of its abilities were related to defense.
For example, the "eye" on the floor had a reconnaissance function. When Li Ziyu wasn't using it, it would automatically scout the surroundings and organize the information. If an enemy appeared, the Great Tomb would send an alert to Li Ziyu. And if Li Ziyu operated it himself, it was like using a telescope, allowing him to see things very far away.
