Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 359 182: Harvest Time (Part 2)
The Undead were even more efficient at cleaning up corpses than they were at fighting, continuously hauling them into the Undead Fortress. Once inside, the bodies were broken down by the system. With so many corpses, Li Ziyu had no intention of keeping them; breaking them down immediately was the best course of action.
The stench of blood on the battlefield was overwhelming. He hadn't noticed it during the tense fight, but now that it was over, the smell assaulted his nostrils. Li Ziyu didn't want to wait around on the battlefield any longer and ordered the fortress to return. Besides, the Undead could find him easily enough. They could simply form transport convoys and continue hauling the corpses into the fortress.
...
"It's finally over!"
Li Ziyu stood up and stretched, his joints cracking and popping. A full month had passed since the battle, and it was only today that all the spoils had finally been tallied.
It wasn't that he was slacking off; there were simply too many corpses. Between the Alliance Army and the Demonized Creatures, there were over four hundred thousand bodies. Just transporting and breaking them down took a full five days, and they spent the rest of the time sorting through the other spoils of war.
Cleaning the battlefield and hauling corpses were tasks the Undead could handle, but when it came to sorting loot, they were completely useless. They had no idea what was valuable and what wasn't. Or rather, in their eyes, nothing had any value except for souls and bones.
Thus, the task of sorting fell to Li Ziyu, Zhang Peng, and Liu Xingxing. Fortunately, the Treasure Hunting Catmen under Liu Xingxing and the Gophers under Zhang Peng were able to help. Otherwise, if it were left to just the three of them, there was no telling how long it would have taken.
Looting corpses was a joyful affair, but when there were this many, it became agonizing. It was a case of too much of a good thing.
Li Ziyu had already set aside a portion of the spoils and given them to Batubohe through a trade. It served as a thank-you gift for his assistance and also as a way to deepen their relationship.
The Alliance Army had come for war; they couldn't possibly have carried all their worldly possessions. Even so, Li Ziyu still acquired a considerable fortune. The Warriors of the Alliance Army were elites, and their weapons and equipment were quality items. After some sorting, he could equip his Skeleton Undead, which would provide a welcome boost to their combat power.
There was plenty of other miscellaneous stuff as well. Li Ziyu handed the more common materials over to Zhang Peng to sell as merchandise. What remained were essentially resources that were useful to Transmigrators.
Liu Xingxing and Zhang Peng had also participated in the battle, and their Treasure Hunting Catmen and Gophers had suffered considerable losses. Li Ziyu wasn't stingy, sharing the resources he had gained with the two of them.
It's said that adversity reveals true friends. The two of them hadn't abandoned him when he faced the Alliance Army, so it was only natural for Li Ziyu to help them grow stronger.
As for what Li Ziyu himself gained from this battle, it was a massive harvest. Each elite Warrior provided over one hundred units of Soul Energy. Including their mounts and summoned creatures, Li Ziyu obtained a staggering total of over fifty million units of Soul Energy.
The haul of Skeletons was also a massive windfall. By now, Li Ziyu didn't care much for ordinary skeletons—the Wraith Mountain Range was full of them. However, he was still very interested in Skeletons that could be used to create Alien Undead. The Giant Monsters from the Alliance Army and the Minotaurs from among the Demonized Creatures, among others, had contributed a new batch of Skeletons suitable for creating Alien Undead.
The gains from looting the dead alone were enough to satisfy Li Ziyu, but that wasn't all. After the battle against the Alliance Army, it was safe to say there was no significant resistance left in the Wasteland. Li Ziyu had entered a peaceful period of development. At the same time, he had become the overlord of this entire land!
For a whole month, Li Ziyu remained dutifully within the Wraith Mountain Range, sorting his spoils. But news of the Alliance Army's defeat had already spread across the Wasteland. Nearly every Tribe knew that the Undead had won the victory.
At first, every Tribe trembled in fear, uncertain of what they would face next. But as time passed, the Natives gradually calmed down. They discovered that the Undead had not, as they had feared, swept across the Wasteland to return it to the embrace of death. Instead, they remained holed up in the Wraith Mountain Range, making no move.
What truly diverted their attention was the emergence of a brand-new power in the Wasteland: the Hydrogen People Cavalry led by Batubohe.
The Wasteland Natives only learned of the Hydrogen People Cavalry because Batubohe had annihilated a Great Tribe. The incident began when Batubohe brazenly went to demand resources. Naturally, the other party refused to hand them over meekly, and so he made his move.
One day. In just a single day, that Great Tribe was annihilated, vanishing under the iron hooves of the Hydrogen People Cavalry. Their resistance had been a joke; it wasn't a battle between equals in the slightest.
After establishing his dominance by wiping out a Great Tribe, Batubohe didn't continue the wanton slaughter. Instead, he led his Hydrogen People Cavalry to continue 'requesting' resources. With that Great Tribe serving as an example to the others, the remaining Tribes—not wanting to bring disaster upon themselves—quickly coughed up their resources to appease him and keep the peace.
Resources, once gone, could be gathered again. But if they were attacked by Batubohe, they would lose everything—even their Tribe itself.
The choice was crystal clear.
Batubohe knew full well that he wasn't this region's designated Transmigrator, and he had no intention of clashing with Li Ziyu. He only demanded resources from the various Great Tribes, and he didn't even completely drain them dry.
