Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 338 - 175: The Entire Army Presses Forward (Part 2)
Some Shamans took out their Totem Poles and plunged them into the ground, praying ceaselessly to their Ancestors. The base of the Totem Poles emitted rings of Aura, and any Warrior who passed through them was naturally strengthened.
It wasn’t just the Minotaurs who had Totem Poles. In fact, every Shaman in the Tribes had a totem belonging to their own people, and each totem possessed unique and wondrous properties.
The fastest unit charging toward the Skeleton Undead was a squad of Lizardman Cavalry. This Cavalry hailed from a nomadic Lizardman Tribe whose members were different from ordinary Lizardmen—they were rather special.
Lizardmen are not born live, but are hatched from eggs. While normal Lizardmen possess their humanoid form from birth, in this particular Tribe—whether due to incomplete evolution or some kind of atavism—not all that hatched were Lizardmen. Some still retained a pure lizard form!
These lizards, born alongside the Lizardmen, typically formed an incredibly close bond, becoming the best of partners and companions. These companion lizards were often very powerful. Their bodies were covered in Scale Armor, they could grow up to three meters in length, and they were incredibly fast. They were natural mounts, able to communicate telepathically with their Lizardman riders.
This nomadic Lizardman Tribe had risen to prominence precisely because of their Lizardman Cavalry. With green ribbons tied around their heads and Long Spears in hand, they rode their companion lizards, letting out strange, guttural cries as they charged ferociously into the Skeleton Undead’s formation.
Although there were only a few hundred of them, the already battered Skeleton Undead were completely unable to stop them. The Lizardman Knights were fast, and combined with the large size of their lizard mounts, they simply crashed through the ranks, slaughtering their way in and back out again. By the time the other Warriors arrived at the front, the Knights had already carved their way back out of the Skeleton Undead formation.
They were followed by the Cavalry from other Lizardman Tribes and the Headhunter Clan People. The Alliance Army had tens of thousands of Cavalry in its ranks, and they took turns charging. The Skeleton Undead’s front line completely collapsed. Although they were still fighting, their numbers were dwindling rapidly. Every time they tried to regroup to resist the enemy, a wave of Magic or a Cavalry Charge would crash into them, scattering them once more.
The half-million-strong Skeleton Undead Corps on the front lines was completely lost, and the reinforcements from the rear had not yet arrived.
Seeing the situation unfold, the High Level Skeleton Warriors immediately issued an order: halt the reinforcements, form up on the spot, and prepare to repel the enemy!
Their orders were to attack, but the specifics of how to engage were left to their own judgment. Without the High Level Skeleton Warriors, the Skeleton Undead would have certainly swarmed forward in a chaotic mob. After all, what was death to them? How could the Undead possibly fear dying?
But things were different with High Level Skeleton Warriors in command. They knew how to assess a situation. It was obvious that their comrades at the front were beyond saving. The City Lord’s intention was to achieve victory, not to have them charge blindly to their deaths. Therefore, their strategy had to be adjusted.
An order to "attack" could be interpreted in different ways. Charging forward in a chaotic swarm was an attack, but so was consolidating their forces to face the enemy in a proper formation.
The High Level Skeleton Warriors instinctively realized that only by arranging themselves in a proper formation could they effectively engage the enemy.
With reinforcements at their back, the Goblin Warriors became even more frenzied. They pushed forward relentlessly until they suddenly found themselves in an open clearing.
’Did we break through?’
We broke through!
The Goblin Warriors raised their heads, ready to cheer, but the sight of the neatly arrayed Skeleton Undead before them made the cries die in their throats.
’How are there still more of them?’
And they were arrayed in a neat formation, just as they had been before the battle started.
They looked at one another, a savage light gleaming in their eyes. ’If we can beat the Undead once, we can beat them twice! Charge, brothers!’
The victory on the front line had gone to the Goblin Warriors’ heads. The more a battle went their way, the more ferociously they fought. And so, the Goblin Warriors charged toward the Skeleton Undead once again.
Li Ziyu kept one eye on the battlefield and the other on the system, using it to summon more Skeleton Undead. It was too late to summon other types of troops, but there was still time for Skeleton Undead. ’As long as I have enough materials, I can keep summoning them. The speed is ridiculously fast!’
’Do I even have to worry about materials right now?’
Even now, a steady stream of Corpse Remains was being excavated from the Wraith Mountain Range and delivered to the Warehouse. This was the source of his endless Undead Army.
Li Ziyu gritted his teeth. ’As long as the front line holds, I can send a continuous stream of Skeleton Undead to join the battle. I’ll wear those bastards down and drag them to their deaths.’
’An all-out attack?’
’Bring it on! I’ll show you the true terror of Low Level Skeleton Undead. You’ll spend the rest of your lives living in fear of the Undead!’
The Goblin Warriors’ charge was not as fortunate this time around. The last time, they had only faced a Skeleton Undead Corps meant to stall their advance, which was why they had been able to charge in so recklessly.
But this time, to counter the Alliance Army’s all-out assault, Li Ziyu had deployed nearly every Undead unit he had available. And among the newly formed ranks of Skeleton Undead, there were Skeleton Short Bowmen!
The Skeleton Short Bowmen were cunning. Seeing the Goblin Warriors charge, they didn’t rush to fire. Instead, they hid in the back, silently watching the little green-skins. Only when the Goblins crashed into the Skeleton Undead front line did the Skeleton Short Bowmen draw their arrows and begin to loose them from the shadows.
FWOOSH FWOOSH FWOOSH...
One after another, bone-tipped Rapid-Fire Arrows flew from all sorts of devious angles. The Goblin Warriors were hit before they even realized what was happening.
