Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 337 - 175: All-out Assault
Palamede looked up at the sky. They had been fighting for a while, and it was already approaching noon. He couldn’t afford to drag this out any longer.
The tide of battle was currently in his favor. If he hesitated any longer, this second attack would end in failure just like the first. After careful consideration, Palamede made a bold decision. He would shatter the Undead’s defenses in one fell swoop and try to end the battle right here, right now.
The Alliance Army’s intelligence was completely unreliable. Even now, he couldn’t be sure what kinds of troops the Undead had. His probing attacks had revealed Undead Beasts and those Skeletons with hammers, but he feared this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Instead of hesitating, it was better to go all in. He would strike while the enemy was unprepared, break through the Skeletons’ front line, and attack their fortress. As long as he could take the fortress, the Undead would be beyond saving.
Palamede had observed the battlefield carefully. The front line consisted of nothing but simple Skeletons; those powerful hammer-wielding Undead from before were nowhere to be seen. If he moved fast enough, the enemy might not have time to send reinforcements!
’This is my chance!’
’The chance for a Full Army Assault!’
Palamede’s gaze hardened as he issued the order to his messenger.
The messenger froze for a second, then immediately relayed the command.
The Alliance Army left fifty thousand soldiers behind. The rest of the warriors all moved out, surging forward in a mighty tide.
Battle cries shook the heavens, horns blared in unison, and the shouts of men and neighs of horses merged into one. Like a bursting dam or a cataclysmic tsunami, they suddenly charged across the battlefield.
Standing on the Watchtower, Li Ziyu was dumbfounded. ’What’s going on? A Full Army Assault?!’
He had to hand it to him; Palamede had caught him completely off guard. Li Ziyu had just been thinking about reinforcing his Skeleton Undead, but the next moment, the enemy’s entire army was bearing down on him.
Liu Xingxing and Zhang Peng were also stunned. The battle at the front was intense, but what was the enemy thinking? ’Have they no honor?’
Li Ziyu was calmer than them and quickly understood. It seemed the enemy had seen only Skeleton Undead on the front lines and decided to risk it all in a desperate gamble. ’Just my luck,’ he thought, ’whatever you fear the most is bound to happen.’
If the attacks had just been from goblins, Li Ziyu would have been more than happy. He could have just dragged it out—who was afraid of a war of attrition? What he feared most was this exact situation: a reckless, swarming charge. With the sun suppressing their power, his Skeleton Undead might not be able to hold them back.
There was no time to think. Li Ziyu immediately issued a command: "Skeleton Undead Corps, all units deploy!"
At his command, the entire Undead Fortress shuddered. Then, countless Skeleton Undead began pouring over the fortress walls like a waterfall, rushing to reinforce the front lines. The number was immense.
Watching the tide of white Skeletons in the distance, which truly did look like a waterfall, Palamede sucked in a cold breath.
’They still have this many Undead!’
’They hid their numbers too well. If I hadn’t committed to a single, overwhelming push, how long would it have taken to fight this many? We could have fought for a whole day, and the Undead would have barely felt it.’
’It’s a good thing I ordered the Full Army Assault. Otherwise, we would have suffered a major loss!’
Palamede felt a wave of relief.
Meanwhile, Li Ziyu observed the battlefield. His front-line Skeleton Undead were steadily being pushed back. The recent volley of catapult stones had caused significant losses, weakening his defenses. If he had more time, it wouldn’t be a concern; Li Ziyu had ample resources to replace the fallen Undead.
But the reality was that the enemy had launched a Full Army Assault. It was too late to replenish the number of Skeleton Undead on the front line. Even the reinforcements he had just dispatched would likely not be enough to stop the enemy. The charging Alliance Army in the distance was far faster than his Skeleton Undead.
The enemy would reach the front line first. This meant the Skeleton Undead front was bound to collapse. Not because the Undead would flee, but because the losses would be too great for them to hold any longer.
’Damn it, I was careless!’
’I can’t hold back any longer.’
"Alien Undead Corps, to battle!"
"Skeleton Short Bowmen, to battle!"
"Skeleton Longbowmen, form up! Prepare for a volley!"
"Skeleton Hammer Warriors, to battle!"
"Elite Heavy Hammer Skeleton Warriors, form a line before the fortress!"
A series of commands shot out through the Soul Network.
The Undead Fortress seemed to come alive. All sorts of Undead swarmed out, a dense, teeming mass, each heading to its designated position.
Palamede stared at the distant fortress, his eyes nearly popping out of his head as he saw the countless new Undead emerge. ’Holy hell, there’s more?!’
He had thought the previous wave was the entirety of the Undead’s forces. He never expected there to be so many more. And these were hardly ordinary Skeletons; their imposing aura alone made them seem far more formidable than the ones that were so easy to kill!
Just as the Undead were scrambling to prepare, the Alliance Army arrived. This was no goblin-level fighting force; they were vastly more powerful.
Even before the soldiers reached them, a storm of Magic, arrows, flying knives, and throwing axes rained down from the sky as the ranged units initiated the attack.
Bursts of light erupted from within the Undead ranks. Before the Skeleton Undead could even react, they were blown apart, their bones sent flying in every direction.
The Alliance Army was finally showing its terrifying side.
They came from three different Races, the elites of their kind, with a wide variety of unit types. Though they were somewhat lacking in discipline, their quality as elite troops was high. They were well-adapted to brawling in a chaotic mob.
Shamans, Mages, Priests, and other such professions had already begun their chants, buffing the warriors around them. Increased Speed, enhanced Power, rapid healing, Petrification of the skin... a chaotic mess of spells. They weren’t targeting individuals, just casting area-of-effect buffs.
This kind of large-scale buffing was extremely taxing for Magic Users. And because the area of effect was so large, the buffs on any single person were weaker. But that was overcome by sheer numbers. Every single one of the Alliance Soldiers was covered in magical enhancements. Some had only one or two, while others had ten or twenty, instantly raising their combat effectiveness by several Levels.
