Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 308 165: Battle of the Night 2
Anything impaled by those tusks was done for. Goblins were short and small to begin with, much smaller than the Giant Tusked Boars. Once they were gored by the tusks and flung aside, they were instantly gored and disemboweled.
The Giant Tusked Boars continuously tossed aside any goblins in their way, shaking their heads as they advanced. They were like bulldozers, and they seemed to be having a blast.
Momonai and the Headhunter Race commander silently turned to look at the Goblin Commander, who had just been so smug and proud. 'A meat wall? This is it?'
'Yes, you stopped the charge. And then what?'
'You just die?'
'This is a damn battlefield, not a contest to see who can die the most!'
'What's the use of just blocking the charge? You have to kill the Undead that are rushing you!'
The Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars were not slow at all, and they continued to push forward relentlessly.
The Goblin Commander was furious. 'I'm being looked down on? Unacceptable! Do I have no pride?' He roared at the front lines: "Kill them! You trash, kill those Undead for me! Charge, surround them, and smash their skulls!"
Having fought the Undead before, everyone in the Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army knew that to kill an Undead, you had to smash its skull. Other attacks were almost completely ineffective.
Therefore, the goblins of this Vanguard Army were standard-issue equipped with Leather Armor and Shields for defense, while their Weapons were various blunt instruments like hammers, Wooden Sticks, and Stone Rods.
But they never expected that what they were facing weren't Skeleton Soldiers at all, but a pack of Wild Beasts!
The skulls of the Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars were much harder than those of Skeleton Undead. A goblin's weapon striking their head would, at most, cause their Soul Fire to flicker. They would just shake their heads and recover, continuing their advance. To take down a single Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boar required immense effort. It might take dozens of goblins, taking turns striking, to finally shatter its skull and disperse its Soul Fire.
Every time the goblins managed to kill a Skeleton Giant Tusked Boar, they would be ecstatic. The cost to kill just one was so high that it made them feel their efforts were finally being rewarded. They didn't realize, however, that killing a Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boar wasn't the end—it was the beginning of something far more tragic.
Skeleton Beasts were not normal Skeleton Undead. They were a different breed, special Undead that possessed Runes. Their souls were not pure, especially the Giant Tusked Boars, which had activated their own Frenzy Runes.
When their Soul Fire dispersed, the Power of the Rune dispersed with it. The goblins, embroiled in combat, didn't notice this at all, and they unconsciously absorbed the dissipating Soul Fire into their bodies.
The Power of the Frenzy Rune silently merged with the goblins' souls and began to affect their minds. As they continued to fight, their blood pumping, the Frenzy Rune gradually took effect, driving them mad and eroding their sanity.
The goblins affected by the Frenzy Rune developed blood-red, bulging eyes. They drooled from the corners of their mouths and, without even realizing it, had become madmen.
The Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars sensed the Power of the Rune on some of the goblins. They stopped attacking these goblins and turned to attack the normal ones instead.
The goblins infected by the Frenzy Rune were no longer their enemies; there was no need to pay them any mind.
The Frenzied Goblins, having descended into a crazed state, howled as they raised their clubs against their own companions, smashing down without hesitation and causing even greater chaos.
"What's going on? Your goblins are attacking their own kind!" Momonai was the first to notice something was wrong with the goblins, turning to the Goblin Commander to ask.
The Goblin Commander looked completely bewildered. He had no idea what was happening or why the goblins at the front were attacking other goblins even more ferociously than they attacked the Undead.
Momonai sensed the situation was turning grim. He immediately gave the order for the Lizardmen to enter the battlefield. They had to exterminate these Undead Beasts quickly.
With the Lizardmen taking the field, the Headhunter Race naturally wouldn't just stand by and watch. They sent their own troops in as well.
The addition of two stronger, fresh forces instantly inflicted considerable casualties on the Frenzied Giant Tusked Boars. Both of these Races had methods for Ranged Attacks; even without getting close, they could strike the enemy with ranged Weapons like Javelins.
Many Giant Tusked Boars were killed or wounded, but the number of Frenzied Goblins only grew. They had become Allies of the Undead, madly attacking their own people.
Just as the Vanguard Army was focusing all its attention on the Frenzied Giant Tusked Boars, planning to finish them off quickly, shadowy figures emerged from the darkness. They launched an attack from the perimeter—they were Dark Skeleton Desert Wolves.
Undead are inherently easy to conceal, and the night gave the Dark Skeleton Desert Wolves even better cover. They approached without a sound, not even drawing the attention of the Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army. While their enemy's minds were entirely focused on the Giant Tusked Boars, they launched a brazen attack.
The Lizardmen and Headhunter Race members on the perimeter had yet to react before Desert Wolves latched onto their necks, arms, and legs. They were dragged forcefully into the darkness, leaving behind only a series of horrific screams.
"There are more enemies in the darkness!" Momonai's expression changed. 'These Undead Beasts in front of us were just bait! There are more of them!'
The moment he realized this, he heard the sound of something slicing through the air.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH...
Volleys of arrows shot out from the darkness, causing the Lizardmen and Headhunter Race to cry out in pain. All the while, Desert Wolves continued their sneak attacks, seizing every opportunity to drag enemies into the darkness.
