Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 307 165: Night Battle
Frenzy Mode activated!
Charge—
The Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars weren't true Demonized Beasts; they were Undead. Possessing a will of their own, they understood the dangers of the Frenzy Rune. That was why they hadn't activated it upon leaving the Undead Fortress, waiting instead until they were close to the enemy camp and had sighted their foes.
Having activated Frenzy Mode, the Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars steadily accelerated. The fiery glow enveloping their bodies grew brighter and brighter as they crashed violently into the waiting Vanguard Army.
"Defend!"
Watching the extremely ferocious Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars draw ever closer, the commanders of the three Races bellowed the order.
They had never seen Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars before, but their appearance made it obvious they were Undead. After all, what else could moving Skeletons be? The only unknown was their combat strength.
Logically, both the Lizardmen and the Headhunter Race were far stronger combatants than the goblins, yet they were positioned in the rear. It was the goblins who were numerous and, frankly, foolish. A frontal Charge like this was guaranteed to cause massive casualties—losses the other races had no desire to incur. Thus, they had decisively pushed the goblins to the front.
Faced with such ferocious beasts as the Frenzied Giant Tusked Boars, ordinary goblins would have panicked and scattered instantly. They would never have held their ground; their own pathetic lives were far more important to them than their positions.
But the goblins in this Vanguard Army were elites, chosen from various Tribes. They were a cut above the common rabble. There was no fear in their hearts; instead, their faces were twisted into crazed expressions. Clad in Leather Armor, they brandished a Shield in one hand and a Weapon in the other, packed together in a dense throng.
This was their tactic for dealing with a Charge, one that had a name in the Goblin Tribes: the "meat wall." The meaning was literal—a wall built from the flesh and blood of goblins, designed to make any enemy foolish enough to charge it smash themselves to a bloody pulp.
In the eyes of the Lizardmen and the Headhunter Race, the meat wall tactic was unbelievably stupid. The cost was enormous, resulting in massive casualties. And yet, the goblins had genuinely won many battles with this very tactic, leading them to believe it was nothing short of brilliant.
As for the casualties... heh. When is a battle ever without death? Besides, did the goblins even care about casualties?
Goblins reproduced at an astonishing rate, and they lacked reproductive isolation with many species. The creatures bred like rats, one litter after another. A few casualties were nothing. As long as the upper-echelon goblins remained unscathed, the losses were perfectly acceptable.
Take the meat wall, for instance. It was composed entirely of ordinary goblins. Not a single Bear Goblin was among them, because Bear Goblins were the upper class. Their combat strength was too valuable to be wasted in the meat wall. As for the ordinary goblins, the Goblin Commander couldn't care less if they lived or died.
The 5,000 Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars had reached their top Speed. They lowered their heads slightly, aimed their Tusks at the enemy before them, and smashed forward ferociously.
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH...
The goblins in the front ranks let out piercing shrieks in their final moments, yet none of them tried to dodge. They only futilely tried to block with the Round Shields in their hands. But the quality of the Shields was poor; upon impact with the Frenzied Giant Tusked Boars, they instantly shattered, and the goblins' bodies were sent hurtling backward.
Vast swathes of goblins were trampled and gored to death by the Giant Tusked Boars, while the goblins in the rows behind used every ounce of their strength to brace against their comrades in front, preventing them from retreating.
The meat wall, composed of nearly 13,000 goblins, somehow withstood the Charge of the Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars. The entire formation buckled inward as piercing screams echoed across the Wasteland. But the momentum of the Boars' Charge had truly been blunted. Their Speed was dropping. Even as they continued to push forward with all their might, the dense wall of goblins somehow managed to fucking hold them back.
The Lizardmen in the rear watched with astonishment. They never expected the so-called "meat wall" to actually work, that it could halt the enemy's Charge with mere flesh and blood.
The Headhunter Clan People remained completely indifferent, unmoved by the gruesome deaths of the goblins. The Goblin Commander, however, was bursting with pride. He held his head high, his gaze sweeping over the Lizardman commander, Momonai, and the commander of the Headhunter Race.
'Look at that! Just look! This is the meat wall you all despised. See how useful it is? If it were you out there, could you have blocked the Undead's Charge? In the end, it still comes down to us goblins.'
Alas, his pride was short-lived.
The Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars, finding their Charge blocked, simply gave up on advancing and switched to "head-swinging mode."
Their name was Giant Tusked Boar for a reason: they possessed two thick, long, and disproportionately massive Tusks. Some were sharp, others were shovel-shaped, and still others were shaped like antlers, with many bone points branching off like tree limbs.
The primary attack of a Demonized Giant Tusked Boar wasn't its Charge, after all. Their main form of attack relied on their Tusks. Upon engaging an enemy, they would swing their heads from side to side, using their Tusks to maim and kill.
After becoming Undead, they were usually the first to Charge in most battles. Their role was to break the enemy's defensive lines and inflict casualties, as had been the case in the underground tunnels. They rarely had the chance to use their side-to-side Tusk attacks.
Unexpectedly, a combat technique that had gone unused in the Underworld was now being deployed on the surface. The goblins had halted their Charge, preventing them from breaking through the enemy line. They had well and truly been stopped, but this also gave them the perfect opportunity to unleash their deadly Tusk attacks.
The Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars at the fore began swinging their heads from side to side. Any goblin pierced by their Tusks was instantly and violently flung through the air. One after another, goblin bodies sailed through the sky amid a cacophony of shrieks and screams. The Frenzied Skeleton Giant Tusked Boars, for their part, looked like they were raving at a nightclub, bobbing their heads with gleeful abandon.
