Chapter 452: Chapter 36: The Increasingly Intense Battlefield (3)
Seeing this, Al ordered his troops, who had already snuck to the foot of the mountain, to immediately launch an attack from the south.
The almighty Temple Guards released a stealth aura, and fifty thousand Heavy Armor Warriors silently closed in on the siege force.
When they were just five hundred meters from the Civilian Lord’s army, a Temple Guard in their ranks looked back warily and cast a reconnaissance Divine Art.
As the Divine Art took effect, fifty thousand Heavy Armor Warriors, shimmering with a golden light, appeared before his eyes.
"Enemy attack!"
The Temple Guard yelled out.
At this moment, the civilian army was firing unhurriedly at the city walls, suppressing the defending forces to prevent them from firing the Gravity Cannon.
(The Protective Divine Technique that grants Temple Guards immunity to Gravity Bombs consumes a lot of mana.)
Upon hearing the Temple Guard’s shout, they immediately turned and opened fire on the Heavy Armor Warriors who had suddenly appeared behind them.
A few melee soldiers, empowered by the Temple Guards’ buffs, also bravely charged the Heavy Armor Warriors.
Having spent the past few days conquering cities and territories with the main army, they no longer feared these Heavy Armor Warriors.
As long as they were buffed by the Temple Guards, they could fight the Heavy Armor Warriors on even footing.
’These Heavy Armor Warriors seem a bit different, though. Their armor is glowing with a golden light, a lot like we do when we’re buffed by the Temple Guards.’
’But the Noble Lords don’t have Temple Guards. They must be jealous of our buffs, so they’re just imitating the look to try and scare us.’
’One of the Noble Lords tried this before—made a bunch of cosplay outfits for his army. It gave us a jump, but we found out they were fakes in the end.’
"Charge! The main army is feasting up north, but we can at least get a taste of the leftovers down here!"
The archers, now buffed as well, unleashed a volley of golden-glowing attacks that flew toward the Heavy Armor Warriors.
The golden light on the arrows was neutralized upon contact with the golden glow on the Heavy Armor Warriors. The arrows then slowed, repelled by the warriors’ armor, and struck them harmlessly.
"Watch out! These are elite Heavy Armor Warriors! Be careful!"
The soldiers of the Civilian Lord’s army saw what happened, but they didn’t question the golden light on the Heavy Armor Warriors. Instead, they concluded that these must be elite Heavy Armor Warriors whose armor had a stronger repulsive force, allowing them to block the buffed ranged attacks.
"Elite Heavy Armor Warriors spotted in the south! Requesting backup! Requesting backup!"
"The south..."
The army’s commander frantically called for reinforcements. They could still put up a fight against regular Heavy Armor Warriors with the help of their Temple Guards, but elite ones had to be swarmed.
His judgment was flawed, however. Al’s troops were merely ordinary Heavy Armor Warriors. Still, his assessment of their strength wasn’t far off. Buffed by the Temple Guards, the Heavy Armor Warriors’ combat effectiveness had reached, or even surpassed, that of elite Heavy Armor Warriors.
Sure enough, the ranged soldiers failed to make a dent, and once the melee soldiers engaged, they didn’t fare any better.
One-on-one, they couldn’t even break the Heavy Armor Warriors’ defense, while they themselves went down with a single blow. To make matters worse, Al’s Heavy Armor Warriors now outnumbered them.
To buy time, the Civilian Lord’s commander had no choice but to send his precious Temple Guards to the front, hoping to turn the tide.
But unexpectedly, when the Civilian Lord’s Temple Guards advanced, Al’s own Temple Guards—who had been concealed among the Heavy Armor Warriors—revealed themselves. And there were more of them.
In just a few exchanges, the Civilian Lord’s hundreds of Temple Guards were surrounded and killed, dissolving into flashes of light as they vanished.
"Impossible! Since when have the Noble Lords had Temple Guards?"
"Quickly, retreat! This information must be reported at once!"
Upon discovering that the Noble Lord’s reinforcements included Temple Guards—and in greater numbers than his own—the Civilian Lord’s commander responsible for the southern assault couldn’t take the pressure and hastily ordered a retreat.
Al’s Heavy Armor Warriors gave chase, cutting down the fleeing soldiers all the way to the north. There, they coordinated with Si Yali’s troops to successfully drive back the Civilian Lords’ armies.
"Al, how do you have these Golden Warriors, too?"
"You want them?"
"I do! I do! Can I?"
"These blueprints were a gift from the gods, and I paid a hefty price to get them. Well, what do you know... it seems I have an extra architectural blueprint for recruiting Golden Warriors right here. Maybe I should sell it to one of my good buddies!"
"Al, why don’t you come to my bedroom and play? I have a cat that can do backflips. If you sell me the blueprint, I’ll let you play with it for a whole night."
"Oh? In that case, let’s go have a look first. It’d better be a fine specimen!"
