Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree
Chapter 448 - 35: Invisible Gravity
Chapter 448: Chapter 35: Invisible Gravity
The Beastmen could see the gaping hole in the fortress wall right before them, but an invisible barrier blocked their path, preventing them from advancing.
Instead of retreating when blocked, the Beastmen committed even more forces to the attack.
They even deployed their elite Heavy Armored Minotaurs.
A Heavy Armored Minotaur ignored the constant gunfire and marched straight to the Gravity Wall. The bullets fired from the Gunpowder Guns only created sparks as they bounced off its body.
The Heavy Armored Minotaur swung its axe with one hand, smashing it against the Gravity Wall.
The Gravity Wall’s force was currently directed upward. As soon as the heavy axe entered its field, the Minotaur felt the weapon trying to fly into the air.
The force was so great that the axe nearly slipped from its grasp. The Minotaur immediately brought up its other hand, managing to get a firm, two-handed grip on the weapon.
"HYAAH~~"
The Minotaur bellowed, putting more strength into its arms and even activating a skill.
’This must be how the invisible wall works,’ it thought. ’If I can just overpower this force, I can destroy the wall.’
However, the Gravity Wall’s direction of force changed constantly, shifting in every direction except inward, toward the fortress.
And so, in the next instant, the gravity abruptly shifted downward, causing the Minotaur to slam its axe into the ground.
"THUD~"
With a loud crack, the ground shattered. Clumps of dirt and dust flew into the Minotaur’s face, getting in its eyes and mouth.
"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey~"
The Minotaur dropped its axe, spitting out dirt while rubbing its eyes with both hands.
Before it could recover, the direction of gravity shifted again. An upward force yanked the axe from the earth and into the air, then an outward force sent it flying toward the Minotaur.
"CLANG~"
The axe slammed into the Minotaur’s own armor, producing a metallic clang.
The tremendous force sent the Minotaur flying.
The other Minotaurs weren’t quite as unlucky, but none of them managed to break through the Gravity Wall’s obstruction either.
These Minotaurs were all wrestling with the Gravity Wall, thinking they could destroy it if they just overpowered the force within.
Little did they know, they were only fighting themselves—wrestling with their own weapons and equipment.
No matter how hard they struggled within the Gravity Wall, the wall itself was not affected by them.
The only way to destroy the Gravity Wall was to get through its area of effect and attack the Super Gravity Slimes on the other side.
While the Minotaurs at the base of the fortress struggled against the Gravity Wall, the Human Race soldiers on the ramparts were gleefully taking potshots at them.
After standing guard for a while and seeing no sign of the Eagle-men, the territory’s Spiritual Armed Shooters also began sniping the Beastmen below.
Time passed, but the Beastmen didn’t give up their assault. The Minotaurs, after trying for a long time, finally deemed a breakthrough impossible. They fell back to the second line to act as enforcers, urging the common Beastmen forward.
Countless common Beastmen took their place. Hoisting their shields, they surged toward the Gravity Wall, pushed onward by the soldiers behind them.
Say what you will, the human-wave tactic had some effect. Though Beastmen were constantly being flung away by the Gravity Wall, a few always managed to charge through in the brief instant the gravity was shifting and its effects were weakened, successfully passing through the wall.
Then, under the command of the Beastmen in the rear, they charged toward the Super Gravity Slimes and began to attack.
Unfortunately, while a common Beastman was stronger than an ordinary soldier of the Human Race, it was still nearly impossible for them to break through a Super Gravity Slime’s defense.
The end result was that a Super Gravity Slime would find a spare moment to hit them with a Gravity Wave, flattening them into the ground.
The Beastmen at the rear didn’t understand how their vanguard had broken through the invisible wall, but that didn’t dampen their enthusiasm. They all raised their shields and pushed forward with all their might.
The soldiers with Gunpowder Guns and the Spiritual Armored Soldiers on the walls were laughing and joking as if it were target practice. The Beastmen were now packed so tightly together that any random shot was bound to hit something.
The only issue was that the Beastmen held their shields high. To inflict any real damage, the soldiers had to find gaps between the bobbing shields and thread a bullet through, which made for excellent marksmanship practice.
Just then, the sound of flapping wings once again filled the sky.
Everyone instantly looked up, their eyes scanning for the source of the sound.
Eagle-men were descending from the clouds directly above.
"Fire!!!"
The Spiritual Armored Soldiers immediately switched their Spiritual Energy Guns to sniper mode and opened fire.
The Eagle-men were already closing in on the fortress, and many were hit almost instantly.
They shrieked loudly and wheeled around, flying back up into the sky as clouds of feathers rained down.
Mixed in with the feathers, countless green bottles also came tumbling down.
"CRASH, CRASH, CRASH~"
A continuous stream of poison and curse vials hit the ground, shattering upon impact.
Green toxic mist billowed out from where the poison vials had shattered. Black light—the curse—flashed and vanished, its power only made apparent when soldiers suddenly went mad and attacked their own comrades.
Below the fortress, the Beastmen saw the toxic mist suddenly appear on the ramparts and let out excited howls.
"Throw the Purification and Healing Grenades!"
Seeing this, Yuan Xiaobo immediately commanded the Spiritual Armed Forces to support the injured soldiers of the Human Race.
One by one, white grenades were thrown by the Spiritual Armed Forces squads, landing where the poison and curse vials had fallen and shattered.
