Chapter 331: Chapter 13: Symbiote?

...

A short while later, several beams of light shone from the other end of the mine tunnel, and a few people in black uniforms arrived at the scene.

"Hello, who is Lin Yu?" someone asked.

"I am!"

"Hello. I’m Liu Peng, captain of Squad Three in the Cuiwei Corps’ Emergency Services Department." The man in black leading the group removed his hat and politely introduced himself.

"Hello, Captain Liu!" Lin Yu replied just as politely. He felt an unusual pressure from Liu Peng. The captain was likely far stronger than him.

"You’re the one who reported a dangerous alien lifeform invasion that requires on-site confirmation, correct?"

"That’s right! Please, look!" Lin Yu led Liu Peng over to Conley and pointed at his back.

Then, a dagger formed of Blade Grass materialized in his hand, and he lightly drew it across the scar on Conley’s back.

The scar instantly split open, revealing a large eyeball.

Liu Peng frowned and made a pressing motion in the air with his finger.

"Hmm... A symbiote?"

"Yes and no."

"What do you mean?"

"The official information is wrong. They aren’t friendly creatures; they’re extremely dangerous. This isn’t symbiosis—it’s parasitism! Moreover, these Eye Demons that latch onto the spine can control their host."

"You call them Eye Demons?"

"Yes, that’s the name of their species. Besides, don’t they look like eyeballs?"

"Alright, they certainly do!"

"The information about the symbiote has been confirmed. So, how can you prove what you’re saying?"

"Don’t we have ready-made test subjects right here? Just take them back and run a few tests. You’ll find out soon enough." Lin Yu gestured to the Extraordinary Team soldiers scattered on the ground.

"I’m afraid not. Without a citizen’s personal consent, we cannot arbitrarily perform human experiments on them." Liu Peng looked at Lin Yu seriously.

"Well..." Lin Yu hadn’t thought of that. He had assumed that given his status as a Third Stage Lord and a member of the Cuiwei Corps, the specialists sent by the Corps’ Emergency Services Department would just haul all these people straight back.

The Eye Demon’s parasitic and control abilities would manifest with just a little stimulation.

Then, with the Corps’ resources, it should be easy enough to detect the Eye Demon’s infiltration of the host’s entire nervous system, even into the brain.

Once that happened, someone would naturally take over and handle the dangerous alien species invasion.

"Sir, these men are all soldiers of the Hass Clan..." the young police officer at his side chimed in suggestively.

"The Hass Clan?" Hearing the officer’s deliberate mention of the name, Lin Yu realized that Opal Hass’s family might be even more powerful than he had anticipated.

On instinct, he started searching for public information on the Hass Clan using his wristband. The results made him suck in a sharp breath.

First, the Hass Clan had a stake in all of Black Salt City’s industries. They were like emperors behind the curtain, controlling everything in the city.

Second, numerous high-ranking officials on Cuiwei Star were members of the Hass Clan, and many more received the clan’s financial backing.

Finally, the Hass Clan’s network was vast. They were a pillar of the old nobility and maintained friendly relationships with countless other noble families.

’With a background like that, no wonder Opal Hass’s false report was approved so quickly. It’s highly likely it wasn’t even reviewed, just pushed straight through. The Hass Clan must have powerful connections within the Corps as well.’

"They’re really that powerful, huh?" Lin Yu couldn’t help but sigh.

The young police officer heard this and couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ’And here I thought you guys were so fearless because you had powerful backing. Turns out you’re just a couple of ignorant fools? You don’t even know how powerful the Hass Clan is, and you dared to lay a hand on their men!’

"So what are you waiting for? Let them go!" he said to Lin Yu with a hint of smugness, already fantasizing about the reward he’d get from the Hass Clan for saving these soldiers.

Liu Peng glanced curiously from the young police officer to Lin Yu.

He had found from the internal files that Lin Yu was merely an ordinary Third Stage Lord with no family background. However, he had likely earned a lot of points in the tournament and hired a Tier Two Extraordinary Squad to protect his parents and younger sister. Liu Peng wasn’t sure if that had used up all of Lin Yu’s points.

He was very curious to see what a Civilian Lord like Lin Yu would do now that he knew the Hass Clan’s true power.

Under Liu Peng’s gaze, the vines wrapped around the Extraordinary Team slowly unfurled, revealing the bound members of the Hass Clan’s Extraordinary Team.

The young police officer smiled and hurried forward to help the Hass Clan soldiers up.

Liu Peng frowned but said nothing.

"AHHH—"

Instead of relaxing after being freed from the vines, the members of the Extraordinary Team all let out blood-curdling screams in unison.

Countless bone-deep wounds appeared on their bodies. Even Conley was not spared; to ensure he was injured, Lin Yu had specifically infused the vines binding him with extra Spiritual Energy.

"Oh, dear me~~ See? I didn’t want to release the vines, really. It was for their own good. They’re all badly injured. If the vines hadn’t been stopping the bleeding, they’d have been long gone by now."

"Oh, well. Since you insisted that I release them, I assume you’re prepared to handle the emergency treatment, right?"

"You—" The young police officer stared at Lin Yu in shock.

Lin Yu ignored him. "Captain Liu, they’re gravely injured. Since these police officers aren’t prepared, I’ll have to trouble you! Please rush them to get medical attention! Any later and it’ll be too late!"

Liu Peng looked at Lin Yu, a flash of pleasant surprise in his eyes. He burst out laughing and clapped Lin Yu on the shoulder. "Not bad, kid! Well played!"

"Men! Take them back to headquarters. These Extraordinary Beings require medical treatment!"
