Chapter 792 - 792: The Snarky Captain
Wuhan and his group pushed through the dense Evergreen Forest, their steps quick but careful, until the trees parted and the Elven Castle came into view.
It was a breathtaking sight, its towering golden walls tangled with the massive roots of the World Tree.
The tree itself was enormous, its thick trunk stretching so wide it seemed to hold up the sky.
Until a while ago, they could not see the world tree, and the moment they entered a certain range from the castle, they were finally able to see its majesty.
The air felt heavy, charged with an ancient energy that made their skin tingle.
The group stopped dead in their tracks, staring up at the World Tree.
Even Captain Black Sword, who always had a quip ready, was speechless for once. “Holy… is that really the World Tree?” he muttered, his eyes wide. “It’s like something out of a legend.”
The guards said nothing, but seeing how they stared at it for a while without blinking was enough to show how starstruck they were.
‘What are those red veins…’ Unlike the rest, Wuhan’s vision was way sharper; he could even see the smallest details on the tree’s trunk. This helped him notice the red lines on the tree, but he did not know anything about them.
Brushing the thought away, Wuhan focused his attention on the boundary before him. Seeing the closed gates but no security measures, his eyes narrowed slightly.
Changing to soul sense, he continued the scan before speaking. “We charge through the front!”
Everyone else nodded without question once Wuhan was done explaining the plan in detail.
They disappeared from the hiding place and put the plan in motion. It was not even ten minutes before…
BOOM!
The front gates exploded in a deafening blast, shards of gold and dark metal flying outward like a storm.
A shockwave ripped through the deserted garden. A cloud of dust and smoke billowed into the air, covering the entrance and the figures that stepped through.
Wuhan stepped through the smoke, his sword drawn, its blade glowing with qi that formed the claws of a furious phoenix. Following behind him was the man who seemed out of place, as if someone had dragged him against his will.
The lazy captain looked around with his droopy yet somehow sharp gaze.
Lastly, the guards followed, moving as one, their weapons ready.
The moment all of them stepped out of the smoke, something happened. Rays of light shot through the uplifted platforms on the boundary walls.
Woosh!
The lights converged and formed a dome, trapping the group within.
“You lot sure made a mess back in the forest.” Once the barrier was us, figures stepped out from the shadows.
There were more than twenty of them, and all but the one leading had not covered their faces.
The one who spoke was none other than the man in the front. The men behind him stopped, but he continued on towards the trapped intruders. “I heard you wiped out the whole team sent to bring you guys here, and yet here you are…”
Wuhan narrowed his eyes but chose not to reply, the coldness in his voice different than the mindless puppets he had encountered before.
“Did you know that they were my team members? 20 squads under my command. There were hundreds of them.” The man leaned closer to the barrier and spoke with a whisper. “And now because of you, I am out of a team to lead.”
Realizing Wuhan was not going to speak, the man snorted coldly and stepped back. Lightning sparks flickered around his hands, making chirping sounds.
Captain Blacksword sent Wuhan a voice transmission: ‘Your Majesty, shall we act now?’
Wuhan did not flinch hearing his voice in his head and replied, ‘Wait for my signal. We will look for a perfect opportunity.’
He watched as the sparks on the team leader’s hands grew more pronounced. The man turned around to face him, his hands spread sideways. “This… cage you are in, you might not know this, but it can allow attacks inside from outside but not the other way around.”
The air in the compound tensed; the cultists in the back watched with no intention of interfering, but someone else did.
“What do you think you are doing, Kol?” The voice seemed to carry such a high power that it shattered the lightning gathering in the hand of the team leader. Startled, the man looked back to see another figure entering the garden.
This woman had a perky stride. She entered the garden with authority and said, “Are you going to hinder the plans of the priestess? Do you want to suffer the wrath of our general?”
Each question left the man trembling in his boots. He dropped to his knees and lowered his head immediately. “I dare not, Captain.”
Even the rest of the cultists in the area lowered their heads as well.
Seeing his obedience, the woman no longer paid attention to him and turned her attention towards Wuhan and his group.
“We already know what you are here for, but you will not go back anymore.” The woman adjusted the glasses on her face and spoke calmly, “At least not the same way you came here.”
There was no mask covering her face, so Wuhan could see her features clearly.
All of a sudden the woman’s gentle face twisted into something dark. She slowly removed the glasses from her face and growled like a beast. “Where the hell are you looking at, huh?!”
Shatter!
She crushed the glasses with her bare hands, glaring at Wuhan’s group. Captain Blacksword got so scared that he instinctively looked away and moved behind Wuhan without even realizing.
Wuhan did not look away but stared at the woman even harder as if provoking her. Seeing this, the lazy captain dropped sweat. ‘What are you doing, captain! You might be strong, but we are trapped here together!’
Enraged by Wuhan’s action, the woman snarled even louder, stomping towards Wuhan. “Who gave you the courage to stare at me?! No one but—”
