Chapter 385: Hunting 2
Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Hunting 2
"Figure out what’s going on, and fast! We can’t afford any mistakes."
Nodding instructed Oladu.
"Understood!"
With that, Oladu cut the comms link.
At that moment, Oladu was piloting his custom Mechanical God, the Shadow Striker. Standing over three meters tall, it was fully encased in green metal armor, with a triangular halo of light embedded in its chest, a large-caliber cannon on its left shoulder, and a pair of mechanical jet wings set into its back. He wielded a knight’s long-lance and was leading ten subordinates in Second Generation exoskeleton armor, racing toward the explosion site.
But by the time they arrived, there wasn’t a soul in sight.
Oladu commanded his subordinates in a low voice.
"Spread out and search!"
"Yes, sir!"
His subordinates quickly fanned out.
Soon, they found traces of what had happened and reported back over the wireless comms channel.
"Captain, we’ve found traces of blood, and in more than one spot."
"Any sign of monsters?"
"None. And we haven’t found any dropped equipment or backpacks. It looks like the place was looted!"
"So, this was deliberate."
Hearing this, Oladu’s expression darkened.
Just then, an urgent voice came through Oladu’s comms channel.
"Lord Oladu, Habita and Aphnu, the guards at the city entrance, have been taken out!"
"What audacity! They dare to kill men from the Military Department?"
Oladu’s face grew grim when he heard this.
Usually, when people saw them, they scurried away like mice from a cat, wishing they had an extra leg to run on. To think someone would dare to poke the hornet’s nest...
He immediately opened his comms channel to report to Nodding.
"An unknown rogue has broken into the city and is on a killing spree. I’m taking my men to hunt them down now!"
"Understood."
After replying to Oladu, Nodding turned to report to Fumira.
"Sir, a troublemaker has broken in. They’re killing and looting indiscriminately. Oladu has already taken his men to hunt them down!"
"Good, good, good! To think there’s still someone out there with a death wish, daring to kill my men and steal my things. Tell Oladu not to kill him. I want to know who this bastard is! I want to see just who has this much gall!"
Fumira was so angry he had to laugh.
It had been a long time since anyone had dared to challenge his authority.
"Yes, sir!"
Nodding quickly replied.
...
Inside Heaven City, Long Ming moved like a phantom, wandering everywhere.
He hadn’t chosen to scavenge; he had chosen to hunt.
After all, he’d arrived late. Most of the valuables had probably already been looted.
While hunting wouldn’t let him get at the items in his targets’ safes, the contents of their backpacks were more than enough.
Just then, Long Ming’s gaze fell on a ten-meter-tall, square-shaped building ahead. Although his scanners detected nothing unusual, he quickly crept closer.
At the entrance of the building’s underground reserve, a Destroyer stood by as several subordinates worked on cracking the main door.
"Are you guys getting anywhere or not?!"
Kengar asked impatiently.
"Captain, the lock on this reserve is complex. We need more time."
"You guys are useless. Get out of the way!"
"Yes, sir!"
The subordinates hastily stepped back.
Kengar piloted the Destroyer forward and slammed a powerful kick into the reserve’s door.
BANG!
A tremendous sound echoed.
The entire armored door of the reserve caved inward.
Just as he entered the building, Long Ming heard the huge commotion and immediately headed for the stairwell.
Kengar brutally kicked the thick reserve door again and again.
BANG!
Finally, the thick reserve door was kicked open.
Kengar led the way inside. The reserve was filled with a large quantity of smelted rare metal ingots.
"Whoa, we’re rich!"
His subordinates exclaimed excitedly.
"Rich, my ass. These raw materials are heavy, bulky, and aren’t worth a damn. Go check deeper inside for anything good. Finding an Energy Crystal, now *that* would make us rich."
Kengar snapped at his subordinate.
"Yes, sir!"
His subordinates chorused in agreement.
Just then, Long Ming peeked through the broken reserve door. Seeing Kengar and his men in the distance, his eyes lit up.
’A lone Mechanical God... a Destroyer, no less.’
’It’s a third-generation Standard Mechanical God, but as long as I go easy on it, I should be able to sell it for a good price.’
’The only problem is that they seem to be from the Third Legion. But I can’t worry about that now. Killing one is the same as killing a group, anyway.’
’As long as my identity as the Red Ghost isn’t exposed, it’ll be fine.’
With that thought, Long Ming slipped silently into the reserve. Using the stacked metal materials for cover, he crept closer to Kengar, one step at a time.
Meanwhile, Kengar and his subordinates reached the back of the reserve, where they came upon a metal platform.
On the platform sat a cylindrical, silver metal container branded with a radioactive symbol.
"Captain, it’s a nuclear fuel storage unit!"
A subordinate shouted excitedly.
"Haha, now we’re rich! This nuclear fuel rod should fetch a pretty penny!"
Saying this, Kengar started walking toward the platform.
Seeing Kengar about to grab the nuclear fuel, Long Ming raised his hand, gathered his Power, and fired a violent red beam at him.
Instantly, the Destroyer’s warning system blared.
Kengar’s heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively activated his Energy Barrier!
BOOM!
The red beam struck the Energy Barrier, triggering a massive explosion that sent the nearby subordinates flying.
"Dammit, which bastard ambushed me?"
Enraged, Kengar spun the Destroyer around.
Just then, Long Ming charged toward Kengar at extreme speed.
"You’re courting death!"
When Kengar saw that his attacker was just some unknown person in Second Generation Mechanical Armor, he grew furious and swung his Metal Blade in a vicious slash.
Long Ming raised his left claw to meet it head-on.
CLANG!
Long Ming forcefully caught the Metal Blade.
’Damn it.’
Kengar was stunned. Not only had his strike failed to sever the enemy’s hand, but it had been caught.
Before he could react, Long Ming swung his own sharp blade, blurring into an afterimage as it swept past.
CRACK!
Kengar’s neck was severed. With a spray of blood, his head fell to the ground.
"No way... Captain Kengar was killed in a single exchange."
The remaining subordinates stared in horror, frantically sending out distress signals.
Long Ming turned to the other soldiers and charged ferociously.
They raised their firearms and unleashed a volley of shots at Long Ming.
BANG! BANG!
Unfortunately, the dense hail of bullets had no effect on him.
"Is... is this guy even human?"
...
The remaining soldiers were utterly stunned.
Long Ming quickly closed the distance, his sharp blade reaping a bloody harvest.
Their screams filled the air.
All the remaining soldiers were cut down.
After finishing them off, Long Ming immediately rushed to Kengar’s corpse, stored the Destroyer in his safe, and then did the same with the canister of nuclear fuel.
Just then, Oladu and his men arrived outside the building.
"Sir, we just received a distress signal. The target should be inside,"
a subordinate reported respectfully.
