Chapter 331: Chapter 190: A Half-Day Tour of San Francisco

San Francisco, Montgomery District!

The San Francisco branch of BlackRock was located in the famous Transamerica Pyramid, with all floors from the tenth upward serving as their offices.

Bird, having just returned from the hillside villa, didn’t stop for a second, taking a private elevator straight to the offices on the top floor.

"Mr. Bird~"

Several staff members greeted him respectfully as he stepped out of the elevator, but Bird, his expression cold, didn’t respond. He marched straight toward the office of the branch head.

Without even knocking, Bird threw the door open and strode in.

The next second, an angry roar rang out.

"Shit! Bird, why the hell don’t you knock?!" Charlie, the branch head, shot up from his chair, roaring as he fumbled to pull up his pants, which were bunched around his calves. Next to him, a young, gorgeous, and curvy blonde was frantically wiping her mouth.

Bird’s brow twitched. He glanced at the flustered blonde and snapped, "Get out!"

The blonde didn’t hesitate. Scooping up the colorful little "pieces" of her attire that had fallen to the floor, she scurried out, not forgetting to close the door behind her.

’I don’t want to interfere with Charlie’s private life,’ Bird thought. ’After all, his father is one of the top executives at the firm. But that doesn’t mean I have to coddle this playboy who’s just here to pad his resume.’

Bird pulled out a chair and sat, silently watching Charlie fix his clothes.

It took nearly a minute for the branch head to finally get himself dressed. Anyone seeing him now, unaware of the situation, would never guess what had just happened.

"So, Bird, what can I do for you?" Although Charlie was only there to pad his resume, he wasn’t completely brainless. He knew Bird bursting into his office like that meant something extremely important was going on.

"There’s a problem with the Longteng Technology deal," Bird said, glancing at Charlie’s attempt to look serious.

At these words, Charlie shot to his feet. "What did you say? What’s wrong with Longteng? Don’t tell me Morgan broke the rules and bought up all the shares behind our backs!"

Bird felt a vein throb in his temple. ’What in the world were the higher-ups thinking, letting this moron run the branch?’

"Our firm is holding fifty-one percent of Longteng Technology’s shares in proxy. How could Morgan possibly bypass us to acquire all the shares?"

Charlie looked a little embarrassed. He gave a sheepish laugh and sat back down.

"Then what is it? It’s not that some other consortium found out about Longteng Technology’s new tech, is it?" Having learned his lesson, Charlie’s tone was more questioning this time.

"No," Bird sighed. "The problem is with the major shareholder."

’This whole affair was orchestrated by Charlie’s father, one of the firm’s top executives. Otherwise, how could I have possibly withstood the pressure from Morgan on my own?’

’That executive chose me to be the one to execute the plan, entrusting the entire operation to me. If it succeeds, I’ll get my share of the rewards, of course. But the lion’s share will go to prop up this barely competent branch head.’

’The man at the top also promised me that once Charlie gets promoted to headquarters, this branch head position will be mine. I wouldn’t be putting this much effort into it otherwise.’

"The major shareholder... if I recall correctly, he’s from Huaxia, right? Name’s Su Chen or something!"

At this point, Charlie, mustering some courage from who-knows-where, adopted a contemptuous expression. "I recall an old Huaxian saying: ’On my turf, even a dragon must coil up, and a tiger must lie down.’"

He looked at Bird, a mocking glint in his eyes. "Surely you’re not afraid of some foreigner on our own home turf, are you, Bird?"

"You’re an embarrassment to BlackRock!"

Charlie had expected these words to humiliate Bird. After all, ever since Charlie had arrived at the San Francisco branch, Bird had never given him a shred of respect—and neither had any of his subordinates. They all thought he was just a princeling padding his resume.

Every time he tried to accomplish something, Bird ended up having to clean up his mess. As a result, Charlie’s authority in the branch had plummeted. If not for his father in upper management, he’d probably have been shipped off to some island to farm fish by now.

"Huh?" Charlie suddenly realized Bird’s expression was all wrong. ’Shouldn’t he be thoroughly humiliated? Why is he looking at me like I’m an idiot?’

’An idiot?’ It finally dawned on the slow-witted Charlie. ’He’s calling me an idiot!’ Just as he was about to slam his fist on the desk in a rage, Bird spoke.

"Heh... I wonder if ’Young Master’ Charlie has ever heard another old Huaxian saying..."

"Only a true dragon dares to cross the great river. Do you really think Mr. Su is some simpleton? Heh. Even your father, Mr. Charles, wouldn’t dare act so arrogantly in front of him!"

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Charlie shook his head frantically, refusing to believe a word of it.

His father was a major figure in the United States, a man with real power and influence. Even the scions of great families like Morgan and Rose showed him respect. How could he possibly be as pathetic as Bird claimed?

Bird shot the agitated Charlie a look, his tone turning cold. "And what if that same Mr. Su is the ultimate boss behind IPS?"
