Chapter 330: Chapter 189: None of Them Are Good People
Mark turned to look at Bird. BlackRock was a massive fund on par with Morgan; how could they not be interested in new technology?
After all, BlackRock’s tentacles reached into every sector, so of course they had a hand in the field of artificial intelligence.
As the realization dawned, a look of fear crossed Mark’s face. ’A small fry like me is nothing before these two behemoths.’
He supposed he should be grateful. ’If BlackRock wasn’t holding my majority shareholder’s stake in proxy, Morgan would have forced me out long ago.’
’On the other hand... without Morgan’s involvement, BlackRock would have eventually swallowed me whole...’
And just like that, a damned, delicate balance was struck.
Bird guessed that Su Chen had seen right through their schemes, but he maintained a calm facade and said, "You’re joking, Mr. Su. The specific details will need to be discussed between you and Morgan."
Bird felt a sense of helplessness. ’If our fund wasn’t holding Su Chen’s fifty-one percent stake in proxy, we would have acquired Longteng in a heartbeat, leaving Morgan no chance at all.’
But they *were* holding Su Chen’s shares in proxy. If they went behind his back to acquire Mark’s shares and improperly sell Longteng Technology’s new tech, their years of hard-earned reputation would be torn apart by consortiums like Morgan.
The slightest misstep could lead to a major disaster, which was not something he or the higher-ups wanted to see.
Swindling assets from under a top-tier client was a scenario no one wanted to entertain.
Furthermore, Su Chen, this majority shareholder, was clearly no simple character. He had managed to purchase the Longteng Technology shares from them in the first place. Who would believe he didn’t have a powerful background?
This was also why BlackRock had teamed up with Morgan to block information about Longteng Technology’s new tech—they wanted to keep this prize pig for themselves, to be shared between the two of them at most.
Previously, Bird knew Su Chen wasn’t paying much attention to the matter and hadn’t told him the specifics of the new technology, hoping to take advantage of the chaos and get Su Chen to entrust the entire affair to them.
But he never expected that during their second phone call, Su Chen would actually agree to come to the Bay Area. This caught Bird completely off guard.
He had been trying to figure out his next move, but when he saw Raymond, the head of IPS Security, picking Su Chen up at the airport, his last shred of hope vanished.
’A man important enough for Raymond to personally meet? What right do I have to scheme against someone like that?’ Bird had no desire to end up with a few extra holes in his body on his way to work.
"Alright, let’s stop beating around the bush," Su Chen said, waving a hand dismissively.
His gaze swept across both their faces before he continued, "I’ll repeat what I said before: as long as the price is right, I’m willing to sell all of my shares."
"To Morgan or to you at BlackRock, it makes no difference to me."
Mark quickly chimed in, "I’m also willing to sell all my shares!"
He was self-aware enough to know his place. Now that everything was out in the open, with both Morgan and BlackRock interested in Longteng, how could a small-timer like him possibly stand in the way of these titans?
His only option was to cling to Su Chen and ride his coattails, liquidating all his shares while he had the chance.
Seeing this, Bird understood they were now playing with their cards on the table. All that remained was a showdown between BlackRock and Morgan.
"Mr. Su, I will contact the person in charge at Morgan shortly. I’ll call you with the details." Even though he wanted to acquire the Longteng Technology shares, Bird hadn’t forgotten his duties.
As long as Su Chen hadn’t sold his shares, he was still a top-tier client of BlackRock.
"Mm. Just call me after you’ve discussed it. If you want to meet in person, just come here." With that, Su Chen placed his empty cup on the table and gestured to Jiang Hui, who was standing nearby, indicating it was time for a refill.
Seeing this, Bird and Mark both stood, announcing they needed to get back and handle things. After bowing to Su Chen, they left.
This time, however, their departure lacked the closeness they’d shown on arrival.
They even left in separate cars. If Mark still tried to cozy up to Bird after knowing he’d been played, he wouldn’t have a future in the Bay Area.
Su Chen remained on the sofa, quietly watching from his vantage point as Bird and Mark departed. A faint smile played on his lips, his thoughts a mystery.
