Chapter 326: Chapter 188: This Air Isn’t Sweet
.......
Silicon Valley. Longteng Technology.
Mark, the president of Longteng Technology, was pacing back and forth in his office. A few of his senior executives stood by, looking like they wanted to say something but were holding back.
Mark suddenly stopped pacing and pointed at a female executive. "Aria, ask the people from BlackRock when they’ll be here!"
"Sir, I already called them. They’re on their way," Aria said, trying to soothe her rather impatient boss. "Besides, our major shareholder is still in the air. He won’t be landing for over an hour, so we have plenty of time."
"Sigh..." Mark sighed deeply. He couldn’t help but be anxious.
A business magnate had taken an interest in the company’s new technology, and Mark was thinking of selling his shares and retiring to a life of luxury in the Caribbean Sea.
But he wasn’t the major shareholder. He wanted to sell the company’s new technology and bypass the major shareholder, but the firm holding those shares was BlackRock—the largest asset management firm in the world, with investments in every industry imaginable.
Still, he was grateful that BlackRock was the one holding the shares. Otherwise, he would never have been able to withstand the pressure from the Morgan Conglomerate.
KNOCK KNOCK. The office door was suddenly knocked.
Just as Mark was about to call out, the door opened.
Mark’s brow furrowed. Just as he was about to curse whoever was being so rude, he saw several figures standing in the doorway. It was none other than the people from BlackRock, whom he had met several times during previous financing and acquisition negotiations.
"Mr. Bird, welcome!" Mark’s face immediately broke into a warm smile.
Although Bird was only a mid-level manager at BlackRock, the behemoth of BlackRock itself stood behind him.
Even with a net worth in the hundreds of millions, Mark didn’t dare raise his voice in front of Bird. A single casual remark from the man could make his life incredibly difficult.
"Mark, if there’s nothing else, we can head to the airport now," Bird said, glancing at his watch.
In truth, he was extremely curious about this major shareholder, Su Chen. Aside from knowing that he was from Huaxia and named Su Chen, they couldn’t find any other information about him—not even using BlackRock’s considerable resources.
This was all thanks to Su Chen’s foresight. He had hidden all information about his holdings. Unless you were looking into a specific corporation, finding any related information was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
"Let’s go. Mr. Bird, after you," Mark said, gesturing for Bird to lead the way.
A group of about ten people left Silicon Valley in a convoy of ten Mercedes S600s, attracting many curious glances along the way.
After all, a motorcade like that was a rare sight in Silicon Valley.
San Francisco International Airport is the largest airport in the entire San Francisco Bay Area and all of Northern California, with four terminals.
The private jet apron near the international terminal was bustling with activity.
"Oh my god! Is some big shot arriving today? Why are there so many men in black?"
"Definitely a big shot. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a huge scene. I wonder who it is."
"A dozen or so cars, all Cadillacs. Look at the bodies and tires—they’ve been specially modified. You can tell at a glance they’re custom-made armored vehicles. Tsk, tsk... what a power move."
Those in the know could see the burly men standing beside the cars—decked out in black suits, with earpieces—and immediately recognize them as a professional security detail.
The ten Mercedes-Benzes rolled into view. When people saw them pull up behind the Cadillac convoy, a fresh wave of chatter erupted.
Sitting inside the Mercedes, Bird and Mark were completely baffled. They hadn’t expected someone else to be meeting a plane today—and with an even grander entourage than their own.
When Bird got out and saw the other group, his pupils visibly contracted. He quickly called Mark over.
"Mr. Bird, what is it?" Mark quickly got out of the car.
"Tell your men to move the cars back a little. And try to stay as far away from those people as possible..."
As Bird spoke, his gaze drifted to the burly men in black. By chance, his eyes met those of a two-meter-tall giant standing at the front of the group, and the words froze on his lips.
Bird was stunned by the man’s gaze. He saw contempt in those eyes—a contempt for life itself.
His heart skipped a beat as a thought popped into his head. ’These guys can’t be mercenaries, can they?’
Just as his imagination was running wild, Mark’s urgent voice cut in. "Mr. Bird, look! The plane’s here!"
Snapping out of it, Bird looked toward the private jet taxiing toward the apron. He knew the major shareholder had arrived. Suppressing his thoughts, he put on a professional smile.
The plane taxied to a halt on the apron. Su Chen led a group of people down the stairs, pausing on the tarmac. He muttered under his breath, "So the air here isn’t sweet, either. It’s not as good as the air back home."
The corners of his mouth curved up slightly as he caught sight of the two groups of people waiting beyond the apron.
Soon, Su Chen and his entourage passed through security and emerged.
