Chapter 310: Chapter 181: Pause in Shanghai, Dealing with the Stock on Hand

"I was just about to call you, and you called me first. Go on, what’s up?" The coincidence lent a cheerful lilt to Su Chen’s voice.

Chen Fei, on the other end of the line, was a little surprised to hear that. But remembering the purpose of his call, he quickly asked, "Sir, are you still in Sanya?"

"Nope. I just got back to Shanghai today. Did something happen at the park?" Su Chen gestured for Pei Rang to take the two large bags to the living room, then got up and headed for the study.

"Nothing’s wrong with the park. It’s just that Professor Chen is almost done researching the data he has and wants the next batch." Chen Fei was one of the few people who knew about this matter. Before Su Chen had left, he’d specifically told the professor to have Chen Fei contact him if he needed anything.

Hearing that Professor Chen’s progress was so fast, a flicker of pleasant surprise appeared in Su Chen’s eyes.

He pondered for a moment, mainly weighing his options. ’Should I make a trip back to Zheng Island, or should I have Chen Fei come to Shanghai?’ After all, the data was too important.

Su Chen quickly made his decision. "Got it. Contact the pilot, and bring a team directly to Shanghai to pick it up. Also... can you spare a few more people from the park’s security team?"

"We have plenty of security personnel. Boss Xiao just sent a few dozen more people over. If you need them, sir, I can dispatch ten men!"

Su Chen was a little surprised to hear that Xiao Chen had sent another batch of professionals. He hadn’t expected Xiao Chen to still be concerned about this after more than half a month had passed.

Thinking about how the men coming to Shanghai would have to travel frequently, Su Chen briefly mentioned it to Chen Fei to give them a heads-up.

After telling Chen Fei to fly over that same day if possible, Su Chen asked if there was anything else. Once he confirmed there wasn’t, he hung up.

When Su Chen came out of the study, he saw Pei Rang sitting on the sofa, gulping down water and constantly wiping the sweat from his forehead with a tissue.

A smile touched Su Chen’s lips. ’He must be exhausted from carrying those two big bags.’

"The men I arranged for will be here later this afternoon. Do you want to wait for them here, or should you take this stuff back first?"

"I’ll wait! I’ll wait right here, Boss!" Pei Rang said without a second thought. He had taken a peek at the files in the bags a moment ago and now realized he had grossly underestimated the situation.

’Su Chen said this was technology other countries already had, but he never said it was their most cutting-edge technology! Even though it was all civilian tech, it was enough to make Pei Rang’s head spin.’

’His mind was racing, trying to figure out where all this came from. Many of China’s domestic technologies lagged far behind their foreign counterparts, which made him suspect Su Chen had acquired these materials from abroad through... other means.’

He couldn’t help but wonder if he would be ’taken out’ for knowing too much. The sweat Su Chen had seen him wiping away earlier wasn’t from the heavy lifting, but from the anxieties churning inside him.

But then he thought it through. The fact that Su Chen could casually hand this stuff over to him and tell him to register global patents meant it must have been obtained legitimately.

Besides, he was one of Su Chen’s trusted confidants. His earlier concerns were just his imagination running wild.

Having come to this realization, Pei Rang wasn’t nearly as nervous as before. But he also understood the importance of these materials and knew he couldn’t possibly look after them alone.

Su Chen nodded and started discussing plans and other arrangements for Yunmengze Capital with Pei Rang.

The doorbell didn’t ring until almost five in the afternoon.

Pei Rang hurried to open the door. Standing at the entrance were three well-built young men, the one in the lead none other than Su Chen’s bodyguard, Chen Fei.

"Steward... oh, President Pei, my apologies. I thought it was Steward Jiang!" A flicker of surprise crossed Chen Fei’s face when he saw Pei Rang open the door.

"Please, come in!" Pei Rang said with a smile. He was relieved Chen Fei had finally arrived.

He had spent the afternoon chatting with Su Chen for hours, covering everything from the company to his family. Su Chen had nearly pried out his entire life story.
