Chapter 308: Chapter 181: Pausing Shanghai, Dealing with the Inventory on Hand

"Su Chen, Qin Fen and I are getting ready to head to Macau for an event. Want to come with us and hang out for a few days?"

After two days of fun in Yangcheng City, Ye Feng had to return to his company to handle matters related to a five billion US Dollar trade contract he had just signed.

Besides, there wasn’t much else to do in Yangcheng City, so Su Chen and his friends were planning on leaving.

They had already sampled all the local delicacies and snacks. Su Chen had even visited the famous Canton Tower and taken a ride on its high-altitude Ferris wheel, bringing their trip to Yangcheng City to a perfect close.

Su Chen waved his hand. "I’ll skip Macau. I’m planning a trip to the Jiangsu and Zhejiang area. I have some things to take care of over there."

Before flying to Yangcheng City for their vacation, Su Chen had sent Jiang Hui to Suzhou.

For one, he wanted to see what the Suzhou Gardens property he’d gotten from a blind box was actually like, and also to take in the beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan water towns.

Second, he needed to complete a task his mother had given him over the New Year: to visit his eldest and third maternal uncles’ families in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, see how they were doing, and help them out if he could.

Of course, that was assuming they were worth his help. After all, his experience at his maternal grandmother’s home had taught him the true meaning of ’family harmony,’ so to speak, and made him much more cautious.

Sicong nodded and didn’t press the issue. "So, how are you planning to get to Suzhou? I don’t think they have an airport. You’d have to fly into Shanghai and drive from there."

"Huh? Suzhou doesn’t have an airport?" Su Chen was dumbfounded. He remembered Suzhou as one of the most developed major cities in the country; he never would have imagined a place like that didn’t have an airport.

"Nope, no airport. The reasons are... complicated and would take too long to explain. If you want to fly, I can arrange a private jet to take you to Shanghai."

’The thirteen cities of Jiangsu are famously rebellious, and none of them bow to the others. It’s an even tougher situation for Jinling, the supposed provincial capital.’

’There’s a running joke online that Jinling is actually the capital of Anhui province. After all, what other city’s metro line runs right up to the border of another province’s capital?’

Su Chen thought for a moment. "Never mind, I’ll just take the high-speed train."

The moment he said it, he saw Sicong looking at him with a teasing grin. Su Chen immediately had a bad feeling and blurted out, "Don’t tell me there’s no direct high-speed train from Yangcheng City to Suzhou, either."

Sicong grinned and nodded. "Hahaha! You got it. There’s only a regular express train, and if you check the time... it already departed over half an hour ago."

Su Chen shook his head in exasperation. "Man, Suzhou really has it rough. No airport is one thing, but not even a direct high-speed train line? How is that possible!"

After a brief discussion, they decided Su Chen would take Sicong’s private jet directly to Shanghai.

Just as they were about to part ways, Sicong finally remembered something. He’d forgotten all about it amidst the fun of the past couple of days: a request Brother Xiaoma had made when they met at Green Water Manor.

He quickly relayed the message to Su Chen.

Su Chen was quite unconcerned. "We’ll see if an opportunity comes up in the future. Besides, I don’t know him well. He’s probably just doing it as a favor to Ye Feng, or maybe he’s just curious about who I am."

Hearing this, Sicong understood what Su Chen meant and nodded, not saying anything more.

Half an hour later, two private jets took off from Baiyun Airport and headed in different directions.

.......

「Two hours later.」

The plane landed on a private tarmac at Hong Bridge Airport. As Su Chen disembarked, he saw a figure in the distance walking briskly toward him.

When he saw who it was, a flicker of surprise crossed Su Chen’s eyes. It was none other than Pei Rang, the head of Yunmengze.

"What are you doing here in person? Isn’t the company busy?" Su Chen had only sent Pei Rang a quick message asking him to arrange a pickup at the airport; he never expected Pei Rang to come himself.

"Not at all. We don’t have any major strategic initiatives planned for the first half of the year. Our focus is on integrating the companies we previously acquired," Pei Rang said with a faint smile.

Su Chen nodded. He knew they had acquired quite a few companies last year and that they would need some time to properly integrate them.

"Pei Rang, send me a detailed list of our wholly-owned subsidiaries. A digital file is fine." Su Chen had suddenly remembered the hundred-odd civilian technologies he had acquired. Many of them were advanced and could be a perfect fit for these companies.

Pei Rang froze for a second, then looked at Su Chen with a puzzled expression. "Boss, you did see the annual report I sent you before the New Year, didn’t you?"

"Before the New Year? A report? Did you send me one?" Su Chen pulled out his phone and opened WeChat. Sure enough, Pei Rang had sent him quite a few files before the holidays, including the very same list of wholly-owned subsidiaries he had just requested.

Su Chen slapped his forehead. "I was swamped right before the New Year. It must have completely slipped my mind."

It wasn’t entirely Su Chen’s fault. He had been running around like crazy every day before the New Year. Even if he had seen Pei Rang’s message, he would have gotten distracted by something else and immediately forgotten. If this hadn’t come up today, he probably would have never known about it.

Once in the car, Su Chen started reviewing the digital reports Pei Rang had sent him. The list of wholly-owned subsidiaries, in particular, caught his attention. The range of industries they covered was incredibly broad, and nearly all of them fell within the scope of the civilian technologies he had acquired.

’Just what I needed,’ Su Chen thought, the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile. He had just been wondering what to do with all those civilian technologies, and now a solution had fallen right into his lap.
