Four Split Personalities
Chapter 2927 - 1388: Under Control (2)
Jiawen smiled approvingly at Cole, whose gaze had already lost focus, then transformed with the "Face of a Thousand Faces" into the appearance of a "Hei Fan Priest." While casually adjusting the priest’s robe that Ah Qing had hurriedly made, she said nonchalantly, "Now, what you need to do is leave here, return to that place and wait for the ’sir’s’ commendation. You know what to say, right?"
"Of course, I know exactly how I completed the task."
Cole grinned naturally and turned to look at Jiawen, "Then I’ll head back first."
"Return from the place I came."
Already completely transformed into the ’Hei Fan’ Priest, with a demeanor that perfectly matched the lazy mode, Jiawen nodded slightly and simply said, "Thanks for your hard work, we’ll meet again later."
"Have we met?"
Having never ’met’ the other person until now, Cole blinked and then walked away with a light step, while the member of the Law Enforcement Force he was about to pass continued to dutifully uphold his responsibilities. However, for ten minutes, he wouldn’t notice the existence of anyone, so the fact that ’Cole left as himself’ wouldn’t be known by any relevant personnel.
As for Jiawen, she exited from another guarded alley, greeted another Law Enforcement Force member simply, and quickly blended into the street crowd with a presence as thin as air.
The rendezvous location was also on a commercial street in the Outer Ring District, with roughly twenty minutes until the meeting time. But because the Saintess Chen Wangyu was going to participate in the morning prayers today, her group didn’t need to act together, so the meeting would be 1/1/2, rather than 2/2. In other words, the Half Dragon Knight named Mor would go with his pretty Half-beast friend, while the ’Hei Fan Priest’ and Chen Wangyu would each head to the rendezvous point.
[I have to say, this arrangement itself is quite meticulous, but... why... ]
Walking on the road, Jiawen squinted her eyes and fell into thought subconsciously. From the beginning until now, she had several vague guesses, but none had sufficient reason to stand firm. Despite the fact that probing into the underlying secret wasn’t within the scope of this task, she hadn’t let go of her habit of seeking the truth that piqued her interest.
Hopefully, there’d be some gains today.
With this thought, she walked at a leisurely pace to an open-air cookie shop, smiled warmly at the couple who arrived even earlier than her, and joked, "Is your system time faster than mine?"
"Today, we arrived quite early due to the rare opportunity, so we came over first."
The girl with a cascade of striking black hair, whose charm was so overpowering it unsettled even herself, smiled radiantly, winked at her, and said, "But ’Hei Fan,’ how come you got here so early? Where’s Chenchen?"
So-called Chenchen should refer to the Saintess Chen Wangyu of the Dawn Church, while Hei Fan is the in-game ID of herself at the moment. Sensing the teasing meant by the girl’s words, it was evidently due to some reason known to the opponent, herself, and Chen Wangyu, especially since the expression of Mor, who was the subject of her previous role-playing, was quite puzzled.
So...
"Don’t make fun of me, Brother Mor is still here."
Bitterly laughing as she pulled out a chair to sit next to Mor, she tried to put on an expression that seemed hard to articulate but had other explanations, then awkwardly changed the subject by touching her nose, saying, "Chen Wangyu should almost be here, right?"
Theoretically, Hei Fan, Night Song, and Chen Wangyu were friends both in reality and in the game, while Mor seemed to be only Night Song’s acquaintance, so due to some taboo, real names were inadvisable to mention during the gathering, which also reduced her workload, making it all quite reassuring.
"She should be here soon. Should we message her and ask?"
Maybe because Hei Fan wasn’t very familiar, or simply due to her carefree nature, Night Song completely overlooked any abnormality on Jiawen’s part. However, this proposal was rather dangerous, as for Jiawen, this task’s most troubling aspect should be ’friend messages.’ If this tone was set, unpredictable changes could likely occur thereafter, so... perhaps it’s better to idle for a bit and decide the subsequent strategy based on the other’s reaction.
"No need to ask specifically; there’s still time before the agreed meeting."
Sure enough, Mor, aware of the situation, spoke up to help her out. More precisely, he helped ’Cole Shuren’ out, but it made no difference; neither ’Jiawen’ nor ’Cole’ could possibly have Chen Wangyu as a friend, which was an expected matter.
Moreover, Mor seemed to have quite a bit of understanding of Chen Wangyu, at least based on his words a moment ago, which suggested he was quite certain she wouldn’t be late.
Night Song seemed to take Mor’s words seriously, so she refrained from mentioning friend messages again, only heading to another counter to buy cookies. Though Jiawen didn’t know Hei Fan’s financial situation, analyzing from the facts that Tan Mo hadn’t given Cole Shuren a single gold coin nor further explain, it could be that he either didn’t have money or Chen Wangyu controlled the finances.
In the following minutes, Jiawen chatted briefly with Mor Knight, mainly about the previous Warfire League. Thanks to Ramollok continually explaining things to her, she managed to handle the content and even earned an admiring glance from Brother Mor.
Thus far, everything went smoothly. The concern was, after Chen Wangyu’s arrival, the matters requiring careful handling would foreseeably increase.
Predictably, a few minutes later, the newly appointed Saintess of the Dawn Church jogged over from not far away. She wasn’t wearing her usual advanced Priest’s Robe; instead, she dressed rather casually, similar to Night Song, although the fabric of her clothes wasn’t scanty. The clothes were clearly a size larger, probably to conceal her enviable bust.
...
"Sorry for keeping you waiting."
Since she ran over, her face was slightly flushed, and the soft-spoken Dawn Saintess apologized with a smile. Jiawen shook her head lightly, subtly indicating that no one minded and then transferred the topic to Night Song, who was suitable to lead the conversation rhythm and was convenient for intervention and control.
Perhaps it was just her imagination, but Chen Wangyu seemed to hesitate briefly, yet she quickly returned to her usual demeanor and sat beside Night Song. Because the table was spacious, the current arrangement was Chen Wangyu, Night Song, Mor, and Jiawen, as the Hei Fan Priest. Mor and Night Song sat next to each other, with about half a table’s gap between Jiawen and Chen Wangyu.
If Jiawen remembered correctly, during the last small gathering, these two should have sat next to each other.
Could it be due to the larger table this time?
No, this assumption was too optimistic. Upon analysis, under the premise that they were not a couple, Chen Wangyu and Hei Fan should have a closer relationship than Mor and Night Song, given their real-life friend status and Night Song’s inadvertent remarks that confirmed their ambiguous relationship, so...
Did she expose a flaw herself?
Such were her thoughts as she decided to continue observing while minimizing her words. If interaction was necessary, it would ideally be with Mor, who likely knew ’Cole Shuren’s’ identity.
She had to admit, this meeting’s pressure was somewhat greater than anticipated.
But everything was still under control, as long as Chen Wangyu hadn’t messaged Hei Fan.
Thus, the fairly tense breakfast quickly ended, and the subsequent development allowed her to breathe a significant sigh of relief.
That was Night Song’s suggestion that the two girls decided to go shopping together.
As a result, she and Brother Mor naturally formed a "sidekick group."
Pressure drastically reduced.
Walking behind the two enthusiastic girls, she exchanged a glance with Brother Mor and shared a smile.
