Chapter 2140: Chapter 1701: Rewards Beneath Contempt

"Isn’t that our Ghost Guide? Why is it attacking us? Has the Ghost Venerable gone mad?" Deros shouted in panic, looking at the Ghost Angel that suddenly appeared on the energy node.

Ghost Guides are beacons for sealing ghosts, promoted from certain special intelligent life forms.

These intelligent life forms generally possess powerful spatial imagination, able to accurately guide the ghost seal to strike targets in the dark void.

It’s hard to accurately describe what spatial imagination is, but intelligent beings with this trait usually have a few characteristics that can indirectly confirm it.

For example, they have a great sense of direction, never getting lost; even if blindfolded and turned around, they can accurately identify directions, or they can precisely imagine the original appearance of an object based on text descriptions.

All of the above are characteristics of spatial imagination. Of course, not everyone with spatial imagination can become a Ghost Guide, but all Ghost Guides have exceptionally strong spatial imagination.

For this trait, the Ghost Council selects people possessing these abilities from subordinate races to become Ghost Guides, eventually granting them the beacons.

These Ghost Guides may not necessarily know how they were chosen or what they need to do. They often only know that they need to secretly guide a ghost seal attack after locating the God Star, and after completing the task, not only their strength is enhanced, but they also receive various rewards.

As for what the rewards are, Dalasso had been told, and Negris scoffed at them.

The rewards given to Dalasso were beauties, wealth, power, eternal life spots, and the like.

Dalasso has 187 wives on his plane, half the wealth of his plane belongs to him, he’s the highest-ranked ruler of his plane, and he has 100 eternal life spots to bestow on those he approves.

These rewards would make Negris laugh; after all, to deal with a God Star, which is the greatest increment source in the void, takes just one billionth of the God Star’s increment to achieve these rewards.

It’s like earning a trillion on a single deal and the boss rewarding you with a dollar, and you feel grateful.

Risking the greatest danger in the void and getting rewards that even Negris looks down on, this Ghost Council is truly the stingiest boss in the void.

Back on track, Ghost Guides are selected from those with the most spatial imagination, and these intelligent beings often have a trait of being lively, or neurotic.

For instance, they’re prone to dancing or humming a tune, or their mind wanders during conversations, seemingly in another world. They’re certainly not rigid individuals.

But the Ghost Guides that suddenly appeared here show no expression, no emotion in their eyes, like cold war machines.

For such things to be puppets is possible, but how can they be Ghost Guides?

"Stop them, stop them, hold them!" Deros shouted frantically, pointing his Magic Wand wildly at the Ghost Angel.

The Magic Wand released a series of special beams that could shred the shadows of ghosts. Where the beam struck, the form of the Ghost Angel immediately shattered.

The Ghost Angels burst apart like a swarm of bees hit in their hive, quickly forming a loose formation while flying fast with their wings.

Their wings are composed of two Ghost Stacks. Although they look like humanoid angels with wings, the wings are actually the main body; the humanoid form in the middle is just an attachment to the wings.

As they simultaneously flapped their wings, the two Ghost Stacks shot out like Shadow Sharp Blades slicing forward.

Deros found himself facing hundreds of Shadow Sharp Blades flying at him, these blades blocking all his avenues of escape; the blades moved not randomly, but with extremely harmonious or unified command.

Deros couldn’t even dodge. He watched helplessly as dozens of blades cut him into seventeen or eighteen pieces.

He was also a Stacked Ghost, and being hit by the same power led only to mutual annihilation.

Dozens of blades annihilated both his form and soul, and his last thought before death was: Has the Ghost Venerable gone mad? Where do these Guides come from?

The dozen or so Stacked Ghosts defending this energy node were all wiped out in one sweep by the well-trained, machine-like precision of the Ghost Angels.

The same situation occurred at other energy nodes, and as the nodes were broken one by one, the Monarch trapped in the array’s center felt the pressure quickly decreasing.

The Monarch moved the fastest, reaching the array’s center first, but was immediately Soul Locked upon landing.

A soul stronger than a Star Soul locked him, doing nothing else but binding him in place, rendering him immobile.

Carelessness, carelessness, the Monarch muttered regretfully, applying his experience with the God Star to the Ghost Array.

Against the God Star, his advantage was in fighting within its core, his Star Flame hindering the God Star the most.

In his essence, he could freely manipulate the Star Flame, but its stars couldn’t hinder the Monarch’s Star Body, preventing the God Star’s Star Soul from fully exerting its power.

This is like the difference between a doctor performing surgery on a patient versus on themselves.

But here, without cover and without Star Flame disturbance, the intent invoked by the Ghost Array can directly act on the Monarch.

This intent surpassed an ordinary Star Soul, without the Star Flame’s barrier, it was like a net of intent, binding the Monarch in place, and despite the Monarch’s struggle, he could move only within a small area, unable to break free even when using his Star Attraction.

Moreover, the Monarch constantly had to guard against their Soul Impact, necessitating the soul frequently being in a sealed state, unable to exert force, risking being stuck here indefinitely if this continued.

Of course, they couldn’t harm the Monarch either.

The Monarch’s Star Body couldn’t even be crushed by the high pressure inside the God Star, except by depleting all Star Power, it’s improbable to even scrape it.

The Monarch’s only weakness was the soul, definitely crushed by the soul strength comparable to a Star Soul, but the Monarch’s self-sealing was like wrapping the soul in Star Power defense, making it as hard to break this defense as to harm the Star Body.

Just as the ghost intent was troubled, it suddenly sensed that the energy nodes of the array were vanishing one by one, with the entire array’s energy intensity rapidly decreasing.
