Chapter 1412: 1411 He will not always be your husband
“What did Ah Jin say?”
Seeing Qin Mu hang up the phone, An Lin asked with concern.
Qin Mu furrowed his brow slightly, a hint of contemplation flickering in his eyes. He replied in a calm and steady tone, “Ah Jin is at Fang Zhiwei’s house. It seems like something’s up. He said it’s not convenient right now and he’ll call me back later.”
“Could it be that something happened to Fang Zhiwei?”
An Lin blinked, a trace of confusion appearing between her brows.
Because of her mother, ever since she returned to A City the last time, she hadn’t left again, so she was unfamiliar with the situation in G City.
She had only heard from Qin Mu that Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi had a tense relationship due to the grudges of the previous generation.
“You could call Wen Ran and ask. She might know something.” Qin Mu hesitated briefly before instructing An Lin.
An Lin paused for a moment before agreeing, “Alright. I’ll call Ranran now, but wouldn’t Mo Xiuchen resent it at this time of night?”
As her words fell, a smile naturally tugged at her lips.
Ever since Qin Mu had confessed to her that he used to like Wen Ran, he rarely mentioned Wen Ran in front of An Lin in recent times.
Tonight, his suggestion to call Wen Ran surprised An Lin slightly. She dialed Wen Ran’s number while Qin Mu straightened up and picked up the kettle on the coffee table to pour water.
The call was answered after only two rings, and Wen Ran’s cheerful voice came through, “Hey, An Lin.”
“Ranran, Happy New Year!”
An Lin’s face lit up with a radiant smile. As she spoke, the corner of her eye caught Qin Mu’s movements pause slightly while he poured water. He then set the kettle down and placed a glass of water in front of her.
Since she had put the call on speaker, Qin Mu, sitting beside her, could also hear Wen Ran’s voice.
“Ranran, did you check your WeChat?”
“Are you talking about Fang Zhiwei’s moments update? I saw it.” Wen Ran’s tone became less cheerful and lively as soon as Fang Zhiwei was mentioned.
It seemed like something was troubling her.
Beside her, Qin Mu, who had been quietly listening, frowned lightly and asked with concern, “Did something happen? Are Ah Kai and Ah Jin both at Fang Zhiwei’s house?”
“Fang Zhiwei has depression. I only found out about it the day before yesterday. I visited her that afternoon.”
Listening to Wen Ran’s explanation, Qin Mu and An Lin were slightly shocked.
“So Fang Zhiwei called Ah Kai to her house tonight? The text she posted felt like something was wrong.” An Lin voiced her suspicions.
“No, Fang Zhiwei tried to jump off a building tonight, which is why my brother and the others went to her house. I just told my brother to come back. Fang Zhiwei’s post—Yiyi might have seen it too.”
“Why would she get depression? Could she be pretending?”
An Lin frowned, expressing her dislike for the photos Fang Zhiwei had posted.
She knew that Gu Kai didn’t like her, yet she relentlessly clung to him, making everyone miserable. Wasn’t it pointless?
“Probably not. Yiyi once saw her outside a psychiatric clinic before. Yesterday, her family’s nanny also asked me to persuade Fang Zhiwei to undergo psychological treatment…”
“Is Yiyi still at odds with Ah Kai?”
“Yes, Yiyi went to the countryside to spend the New Year with her mom. Tongtong is spending the New Year with my brother and my dad. Their problems haven’t been resolved yet, and now Fang Zhiwei is causing trouble—I feel utterly annoyed.”
Fang Zhiwei’s behavior was genuinely exasperating.
Although she wasn’t as malicious and scheming as Cheng Jia had been, she was persistently clingy, refusing to let go, and using self-harm to make her brother feel guilty.
“Since Ah Kai has left, that’s good. You should have him call Yiyi to explain. I think Yiyi really likes your brother.”
Qin Mu got up and went into the study next door.
“Do you think he’ll make the call? By the way, An Lin, how are things between you and Qin Mu?”
“Still the same.” When discussing her relationship with Qin Mu, An Lin’s tone softened, a complex emotion flickering in her brows as she glanced toward the direction of the study.
Although Qin Mu had never expressed sweet words to her, for a relationship that wasn’t based on mutual affection, their marriage had been decent so far. Qin Mu played the role of a husband quite well.
Lately, he had been working hard to fulfill his promise—to try and fall in love with her.
Reflecting on this, a string in An Lin’s heart trembled faintly.
“Things seem pretty good then. An Lin, you’ve been married to Qin Mu for quite a while. When will there be some good news?”
“When you and Mo Xiuchen have another set of girl and boy twins first.” An Lin teased with a smile. She and Qin Mu hadn’t deliberately taken precautions, but the time they spent together was limited.
And it always seemed to happen during relatively safe days.
Wen Ran laughed and scolded, “Oh, stop it. Mo Xiuchen and I already have Momo, Xin Xin, and Ziyi. We’re not having any more. You and Qin Mu could have triplets or quadruplets—outpace us completely.”
“Like a pig!” An Lin’s lips twitched. “Last time, Mo Xiuchen said you could easily have another set of girl and boy twins anytime. Ranran, why don’t you and Mo Xiuchen have them, and if you don’t want to raise them, you can give them to me.”
“Ranran, stop chatting away with An Lin. Tell her to go make her girl and boy twins with Ah Mu. New Year’s Eve is such a perfect time. Don’t waste it.”
The voice that came through the phone wasn’t Wen Ran’s but Mo Xiuchen’s deep and magnetic tone. It carried a serious edge that made it hard to tell if he was teasing, leaving one with an impression of solemnity.
Then came Wen Ran’s giggles. “An Lin, Mo Xiuchen doesn’t want me to bother you any longer.”
“You two are in cahoots. Bye.”
Saying that, An Lin hung up the phone.
She glanced at the study door, hesitating for two seconds, then got up intending to check on Qin Mu. But just as she took a step, her phone rang.
The caller ID was a string of numbers.
However, An Lin’s expression changed slightly when she saw the number. She recognized it as Gao Yuwen’s phone number.
Though she had only answered her call once, the things that woman had said made An Lin remember the number.
Not long ago, she had seen Gao Yuwen at a cocktail party. The woman’s gaze toward her was filled with disdain, and she even mocked her, “An Lin, you better keep a tight hold on Ah Mu. He won’t always be your husband.”
An Lin had been furious at that time and had retorted, “Ah Mu is married to me, so of course, he’ll always be my husband. Are you thinking of becoming the third party?”
“Haha, third party? You’re the third party. Ah Mu and I were originally a couple. Because you climbed into his bed and slept with him that night, he barely felt obliged to take responsibility for you…”
Just as An Lin was shocked, Gao Yuwen’s tone abruptly shifted, “An Lin, don’t think you can just walk away with everything after using me to get Ah Mu. I’m telling you, if you don’t accept my conditions, I’ll reveal the truth to him.”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
An Lin frowned while Gao Yuwen sneered, “I’ll give you three months to leave Ah Mu yourself. If you’re still clinging to him after that, I don’t mind going down with you in mutual destruction.”
