Chapter 1411: 1410 Relief of Siege

Gu Kai got into the car, just fastened his seatbelt, and his phone rang again.

This time, it was a call from Wen Ran.

“Brother, have you left Sister Wei’s house yet?”

“Yes, I’ve left. How did you know I was at Fang Zhiwei’s house?” Gu Kai deflected the question with another, wondering if their dad had told Ranran.

“The earlier call, it wasn’t really to make you return to the hospital. I asked Dad to arrange for someone to make that call.” Wen Ran explained calmly, her soft and gentle voice piercing through the night into his ears.

Gu Kai’s face flickered with a trace of surprise, then he smiled. “Ranran, you really are my sister. Did Dad tell you I was at Fang Zhiwei’s house?”

“Sister Wei posted a photo on her Moments, along with some text. Yiyi added her on WeChat before, so she’s probably seen it by now too. I just happened to see it on WeChat earlier.”

“Fang Zhiwei posted on Moments?” Gu Kai frowned, his tone carrying a hint of anger. Earlier, when she was using her phone to take pictures, it turned out it was for posting on Moments.

He hadn’t stopped her from taking a photo earlier because she was on the verge of jumping off a building tonight due to heartbreak.

“Yes. Take a look at it yourself later. Since you’ve left her house, go home. Tongtong is still waiting for you at home. As for Yiyi, decide for yourself if you want to explain to her.”

“Ah Kai, you’re something else, running off to spend New Year’s Eve with Fang Zhiwei and even making Ranran orchestrate things for you from thousands of miles away.” The voice on the line suddenly changed into Mo Xiuchen’s, sounding distinctly displeased.

Gu Kai frowned with annoyance. “Fang Zhiwei was trying to jump off a building tonight and nearly died. You think I wanted to spend my time with her under such circumstances? Didn’t you notice that Ah Jin and Zhiyan were there too?”

“Forget it; handle your own affairs. Don’t let Ranran worry about you anymore.” Mo Xiuchen hung up the phone after finishing his sentence.

“What a guy!”

Gu Kai muttered irritably, tossed aside his phone, and started the car to drive off.

When he got home, Gu Yan had just come downstairs after putting Tongtong to sleep.

“Ah Kai, Tongtong’s asleep now. How are things at Fang Zhiwei’s place?” Gu Yan asked as he moved to sit on the couch.

Gu Kai sat in the spot next to him and replied lightly, “Her emotions have stabilized for now. Ah Jin and Zhiyan, along with that Jing Xiaocha, are at her place making dumplings with her.”

“That’s good.” Gu Yan sighed. “Ranran called me earlier and said Fang Zhiwei posted a photo on Moments and asked me to call you back.”

“Ranran already called me.” Gu Kai curved his lips into a tiny smile. Ranran was indeed considerate—unlike that Mo Xiuchen.

“Ranran mentioned to me that Fang Zhiwei has depression. She also said that Fang Zhiwei had previously asked her to suggest that you accompany her to see a psychologist?”

Hearing this, the slight curve of Gu Kai’s lips disappeared as his handsome brows furrowed faintly. “I’ve already passed this matter onto Lu Zhiyan. Tonight was just an accident.”

“If she really has depression, she needs to seek treatment immediately. Letting it worsen will only lead to more repeats of what happened tonight.”

Gu Yan emphasized the seriousness of the matter, and Gu Kai understood, especially after tonight’s events—they had driven the point home for him.

“Dad, I’ll make sure to tell Zhiyan. The more Fang Zhiwei behaves this way, the more I need to distance myself from her.”

“Good. You should stay away from her unless absolutely necessary. The more dependent she becomes on you, the harder it’ll be for her to let go.”

Meanwhile, in A City, An Lin also saw Fang Zhiwei’s Moments post.

An Lin and her parents, along with Qin Mu’s mother, were having New Year’s Eve dinner together. After the meal, they were all sitting in the Qin Family’s living room watching the Spring Festival Gala.

An Lin nudged Qin Mu lightly with her elbow. He withdrew his gaze from the TV and turned to her. “What’s up?”

An Lin lowered her voice and said, “Look at Fang Zhiwei’s Moments post. Ah Kai is actually making dumplings with her, along with Ah Jin and Lu Zhiyan…”

As she spoke, she opened the post and showed the photo to Qin Mu.

Qin Mu’s eyes narrowed slightly. He leaned closer, lowering his head to look at the photo on her phone. “Why are they at Fang Zhiwei’s place?”

“I found it strange too. Look at the caption she wrote.”

“I’ll call Ah Kai and ask him what’s going on. Even if he and Bai Yiyi have really broken up, there’s no way he’d go back to Fang Zhiwei. Plus, with Ah Jin and the others there—this scene is just too bizarre.”

“What are you two whispering about? If you don’t want to watch the gala with us, then go find something else to do. Don’t disrupt us here.”

Mother Qin turned around and scolded An Lin and Qin Mu, who were speaking in hushed tones.

An Lin smiled, about to explain, but Qin Mu simply pulled her up from the sofa and smiled. “Mom, since you put it that way, An Lin and I won’t get in your way. We’ll head upstairs.”

“Go, go. Giving me a chubby grandchild is more important. If I had a big, fat grandson to cuddle, I wouldn’t be sitting here bored.”

“Mom, you’re not bored. You’re just keeping an eye on Dad under the guise of watching the show.” Qin Mu quipped as he pulled An Lin away, dodging the small pillow his mother tried to throw at him.

“Brat, if you don’t give me a fat grandson by next year, I’ll throw you out.” Mother Qin cursed in frustration when she missed him with the pillow.

An Lin let herself be pulled upstairs by Qin Mu. Once they were on the upper floor, she drew her hand back, and Qin Mu let go without a fuss. He walked into the master bedroom ahead of her, took out his phone, and prepared to make a call.

“I think you should call Wen Jin first. Ah Kai being at Fang Zhiwei’s house is really strange. Ask Ah Jin if anything is going on.”

“Alright, good idea.”

Qin Mu nodded and switched to dialing Wen Jin’s number.

The phone rang a few times before Wen Jin’s voice came through. “Hello, Ah Mu.”

“Ah Jin, An Lin and I just saw Fang Zhiwei’s Moments post. Are you guys at her place?”

Qin Mu glanced at An Lin, then walked over to sit on the sofa.

An Lin followed, sitting on the same sofa but keeping a seat’s distance between them.

Wen Jin seemed unaware that Fang Zhiwei had posted on Moments. He paused for a moment before responding with a terse “Mm.” There was a vague sound of footsteps in the background. A moment later, his voice returned. “Yes, I’m at Fang Zhiwei’s house now.”

“What’s going on? Did Ah Kai and Fang Zhiwei get back together?” Qin Mu asked casually, though even he found it unlikely.

“It’s complicated, and now’s not the best time to explain. I’ll call you back later.” Wen Jin’s voice grew lower, likely due to being at Fang Zhiwei’s house—it wasn’t convenient to talk much.

Qin Mu’s eyes flickered with a hint of suspicion, but he didn’t press further. “Alright, call me back later then.”
