Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1379: Let Ranran come forward

Chapter 1379: Let Ranran come forward

Mo Xiuchen’s narrow eyes sharpened and narrowed slightly, his voice sinking, “Wei Jingshan? Isn’t she the intern who exposed rumors of you and Bai Yiyi being involved, claiming Bai Yiyi was the third party?”

“Yes, that’s her.” Gu Kai’s thin lips pressed together as a flash of sharpness crossed his cold eyes. “Aside from Wei Jingshan, I can’t think of anyone else who would be so interested in me and Bai Yiyi.”

If it’s understood that Wei Jingshan resents him, it wouldn’t be unreasonable.

After all, following that incident, Wei Jingshan might have remained at Kangning Hospital, but her infatuation with Gu Kai led other female doctors and nurses to mock and ostracize her.

From what Gu Kai knew, it had happened three or four times already, where Wei Jingshan was picked on by a group of junior nurses.

She likely harbored hatred toward him deep in her heart.

“If it’s her, then we’ve got another lead. Even though there’s no evidence just yet, she’s right there in your hospital. Getting evidence shouldn’t be difficult.” The corner of Mo Xiuchen’s lips curved into a cold arc, his expression calm and confident.

“Originally, this should’ve been thoroughly investigated last time. It’s just that so much has been happening recently, I didn’t have the chance to take care of it.”

Gu Kai furrowed his brows tightly. Recently, a series of events had occurred. And because Lu Zhiyan had cleared Fang Zhiwei from suspicion, he hadn’t focused on the person pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Unexpectedly, she still persisted.

And with such despicable means.

Mo Xiuchen remarked knowingly, “What’s done is done; Fang Zhiwei—no matter what—is a victim. However, given the current circumstances, she surely wouldn’t want to see you and Bai Yiyi together.”

Gu Kai lowered his gaze, the lines of his brow cold and stern.

“Let Ranran step in instead. As for Bai Yiyi, no need to inform her for the time being. Even if Fang Zhiwei resents you and Bai Yiyi, she probably wouldn’t hold a grudge against Ranran.”

Saying so, Mo Xiuchen pulled out his phone and dialed Wen Ran’s number.

Though he often said he didn’t want his Ranran worrying about matters involving Gu Kai and Wen Jin, in many cases, he was the one who suggested Wen Ran step in.

For instance, last time at Jing Xiaocha’s mother’s funeral.

And that one time regarding Fu Jingyi’s aftermath. Now, it had come to Fang Zhiwei’s father…

Gu Kai felt a trace of guilt, yet did not oppose Mo Xiuchen’s arrangement. He quietly watched as he dialed the number.

Gu Kai pursed his thin lips as his gaze fell on the photo sitting on the coffee table. Leaning forward, he picked it up unconsciously and began flipping through it.

Across the room, Mo Xiuchen’s voice rang out, “Ranran, there’s something I need you to help with.”

Gu Kai heard the tender tone in Mo Xiuchen’s voice and instinctively looked up at him.

“What is it?”

Gu Kai stood and moved to sit beside Mo Xiuchen, just as Wen Ran’s gentle voice came through the phone.

“Fang Zhiwei’s father has passed away. Because of this, it involves Ah Kai. He feels guilty but isn’t in a position to assist…”

Mo Xiuchen glanced at Gu Kai beside him and briefly explained the situation.

On the other end of the call, Wen Ran was silent for a few seconds in shock before answering, “I’ll head over now.”

“Is Bai Yiyi with you?” Mo Xiuchen thought for a moment and asked warmly.

Wen Ran, attuned to his thoughts, immediately understood his intention once he spoke. “Yiyi is picking up her mom. Don’t worry, she’s not with me, and I won’t tell her. Although this matter seems to involve her and my brother, in truth, it’s not their fault.”

Mo Xiuchen’s lips curved slightly upward. “Ranran, if Fang Zhiwei directs her anger at you, don’t take it personally.”

“I know. She likely wouldn’t.” Wen Ran chuckled softly at Mo Xiuchen’s protective demeanor yet felt warmth rise in her chest. No matter the circumstance, Mo Xiuchen’s care for her always made her feel secure.

Mo Xiuchen gave her a couple of reminders before reluctantly hanging up the call. Turning to Gu Kai beside him, he said, “You call next and figure out where Lu Zhiyan is.”

***

When Gu Kai went to the police station to look for Lu Zhiyan, Wen Ran had Little Liu drive her to Fang Zhiwei’s house.

The housekeeper invited her into the living room. After waiting for a while, Fang Zhiwei descended the stairs.

Her eyes were red and swollen, her entire being shrouded in overwhelming sorrow that made anyone who saw her feel a pang of grief.

Wen Ran stepped forward, held Fang Zhiwei’s hand, and spoke gently, “Sister Wei, I just found out Uncle Fang has passed away. You need to take care of yourself; Uncle Fang surely wouldn’t want to see you so upset.”

Fang Zhiwei’s expression was vacant, a sign of being consumed by her grief.

She didn’t withdraw her hand from Wen Ran’s grasp but instead knelt before her, bowing her head. Wen Ran quickly helped her to her feet.

“Ranran, did your brother tell you?”

Fang Zhiwei asked softly, her tone betraying little emotion.

Wen Ran’s eyes flickered as she helped Fang Zhiwei onto the sofa and murmured gently, “Sister Wei, whether or not my brother told me, we’re friends, too. If there’s anything you need, just let me know… I heard that before Uncle Fang passed away, he saw some photos and a letter. Don’t worry, the person behind all this will be exposed.”

“Ranran, thank you for considering me a friend.”

A trace of warmth surfaced in Fang Zhiwei’s eyes. With her father’s passing, she felt utterly isolated. But Wen Ran’s words made her feel that she wasn’t truly alone.

At least, someone still cared.

“No need to thank me. Calling you Sister Wei isn’t just for show.” Wen Ran’s phone rang. She apologized, releasing Fang Zhiwei’s hand, and answered the call.

Fang Zhiwei sat beside her, seemingly lost in thought. Whatever crossed her mind brought fresh tears streaming down her cheeks.

After finishing the call, Wen Ran pulled out some tissues and handed them to her. “Sister Wei, I’m not good at comforting people. Honestly, saying too much won’t help. When my parents died in a car accident, and my brother fell into a coma, I felt like my entire world had collapsed. But later, I realized, no matter how deep the pain, time will eventually heal it bit by bit.”

“Ranran…”

Fang Zhiwei choked out, throwing her arms around Wen Ran and sobbing.

“I killed my dad. If only I hadn’t fallen for your brother, maybe my dad wouldn’t have left me so soon.”

Wen Ran gently patted her back. “Sister Wei, this isn’t your fault. Blame that person hiding in the shadows. My brother has already reported the case to the authorities. They’ll step in to investigate, and that despicable person will definitely be caught.”

“Ranran, I regret it so much.” Fang Zhiwei cried out, her voice filled with anguish. She hated Gu Kai, hated Bai Yiyi, but most of all, she hated herself.

She hated herself for not being able to move on from Gu Kai. He was just a man. It wasn’t as though she couldn’t find someone else. But still, her obsession with him was unyielding.

“Don’t overthink it. Uncle Fang wouldn’t want to see you like this.” Wen Ran picked up a tissue and wiped Fang Zhiwei’s tears. Fang Zhiwei bit her lip in self-reproach and said, “My father always urged me to forget your brother and find someone who treats me well to marry. This is my punishment from heaven—for being unable to erase your brother from my heart.”
