Chapter 1380: 1379 Refused

Bai Yiyi escorted Bai Yuqin to the station, bought her a ticket, and only drove back after watching her board the train.

When she returned home, Wen Ran was not there.

Nanny Zhang told Bai Yiyi that Wen Ran went out for something and might not come back until the evening. Seeing that Momo and Ziyi were asleep and Xin Xin was being looked after by the nanny, Bai Yiyi took Tongtong back home.

The fridge at home was fully stocked with ingredients, and Tongtong said proudly that her daddy bought them.

Looking at her radiant and confident smile, Bai Yiyi chuckled slightly. “Mommy, I want ham,” Tongtong said, her eyes lighting up as she pointed to the ham in the fridge.

Bai Yiyi smiled softly, patting her head gently and saying, “Alright, Mommy will make you a three-flavor soup, okay?”

“Okay, okay, okay,” Tongtong clapped her little hands excitedly. “Daddy eats shrimp.”

As her eyes sparkled, she also caught sight of the lobster in the fridge. Bai Yiyi rolled her eyes; this little girl really had a soft spot for Gu Kai.

“Tongtong, Daddy has to work overtime, seeing patients and performing surgeries. He doesn’t have time to come. Come on, Mommy will make you some ham and shrimp,” Bai Yiyi said.

After preparing dinner, the little girl insisted on calling her daddy and asking him to join them for dinner.

Left with no choice, Bai Yiyi handed her the phone to make the call herself.

Initially, Bai Yiyi thought Tongtong, being unable to read, wouldn’t be able to make the call without help. But to her surprise, Tongtong adeptly used voice commands to dial the number successfully.

Bai Yiyi was astonished as she watched Tongtong operate the phone. She had no idea what Gu Kai had taught Tongtong during the days she was away.

Now she could call by herself. Hearing the ringtone on the other end of the line, Tongtong raised her delicate eyebrows proudly, her face lighting up. “Mommy, it’s connected.”

“Tongtong, who taught you to make calls like this?”

Bai Yiyi’s expression softened with a smile as she gazed tenderly at Tongtong.

Holding up the phone, Tongtong answered crisply, “Daddy taught me.”

“Daddy taught you to make calls this way?”

The smile in Bai Yiyi’s eyes spread unconsciously. Tongtong always melted her heart into pure softness.

With every little action, every word, every smile, and every gleam of excitement in her eyes, Tongtong filled her heart with warmth and tenderness.

Perhaps every mother felt this way.

After a few rings, Gu Kai’s low voice came through, “Hello.”

“Daddy, it’s dinnertime!”

Hearing Gu Kai’s voice, Tongtong exclaimed excitedly.

Bai Yiyi watched the gleam of excitement in Tongtong’s eyes and pressed her lips together lightly. Blood ties are unbreakable. Even if she and Gu Kai were destined to remain strangers, Tongtong could still grow up happily.

Her bond as father and daughter with Gu Kai wouldn’t be affected.

“Tongtong, Daddy has to work overtime tonight and can’t join you for dinner. Have dinner with Mommy, and don’t wait for Daddy tonight. Go to bed early,” Gu Kai said.

When speaking to Tongtong, his voice softened noticeably, his tone gentle and his pace slightly slower. Even over the phone, Bai Yiyi could imagine Gu Kai’s currently composed, gentle gaze and graceful demeanor.

“Daddy has to work overtime,” Tongtong said, blinking as the smile faded from her face, leaving a small hint of disappointment between her delicate brows.

“Tongtong, eat a bit more. Daddy’s hanging up now.”

“Goodbye, Daddy.”

Though a little disappointed, Tongtong didn’t pester Gu Kai to come back and obediently said goodbye.

Her small, fair fingers pressed the hang-up button gently. Then she puckered her lips slightly and handed the phone back to Bai Yiyi. “Mommy, Daddy is working overtime.”

Bai Yiyi lovingly patted her head, put the phone away, and took her hand as they went to the dining room. After seating her in the chair, Bai Yiyi said, “Tongtong, Daddy is working. Mommy will eat dinner with you. Be as happy as you were earlier, okay?”

“Tongtong is happy.”

Blinking, Tongtong broke into a wide smile again.

Mo Xiuchen canceled his evening engagements and went to the hospital after work to pick up Wen Ran.

Wen Ran had spent over an hour that afternoon at Fang Zhiwei’s home because of Professor Fang’s body donation. Fang Zhiwei had asked Wen Ran to accompany her to the hospital to sign the documents.

When Tongtong called Gu Kai, Fang Zhiwei and Wen Ran were in Gu Kai’s office. She had just finished signing.

Gu Kai had stepped out to take the call, and Fang Zhiwei merely glanced at him indifferently before staring blankly at the consent form and related donation documents in her hands.

Mo Xiuchen gently patted Wen Ran’s shoulder and was about to say something when his phone rang.

The call was from Qing Feng.

With long, elegant fingers, he pressed the answer button and replied calmly, “Hello.” Just then, Gu Kai returned after finishing his call.

“Young Master Mo, Qing Yang and I have investigated. The person who sent the delivery is a woman around fifty years old,” Qing Feng reported.

“A woman? Do we know her identity or where she’s from?”

Mo Xiuchen’s sharp eyes narrowed deeply, his tone carrying a trace of seriousness.

Beside him, Wen Ran’s gaze flickered upon hearing his words, and she stared at him intently.

That afternoon, she had heard him mention sending Qing Feng and Qing Yang to investigate the matter, which was why she had Little Liu drive her to Fang Zhiwei’s home.

Now it seemed they had found a lead.

The package had been sent from a neighboring city. Qing Feng and Qing Yang had quickly gone there to investigate.

They had just identified the sender and immediately reported back to Mo Xiuchen.

“We don’t know yet. We only saw her on the surveillance footage. The woman is a stranger to the courier staff here,” Qing Feng stated calmly.

“Keep investigating. Make sure to find that woman,” Mo Xiuchen said coldly, his air turning slightly frosty.

Nearby, Fang Zhiwei, who had been lost in thought, looked up at Mo Xiuchen.

Her sorrowful expression carried a hint of curiosity, and she glanced at him with a trace of confusion.

After ending the call, Mo Xiuchen addressed Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei. “Qing Feng has identified that the person who sent the package is a woman. They will continue investigating and find the person behind this. When the time comes, how you choose to handle it is up to you.”

“Thank you, Mo General,” Fang Zhiwei said softly, biting her lip cautiously.

Mo Xiuchen glanced at Gu Kai and, pulling Wen Ran to her feet, said, “Miss Fang, Ranran and I need to leave now. She’s been out for too long, and the three kids will be looking for her. I’ll have Little Liu wait here and take you home later.”

“No need. I’ll have my aunt come pick me up later,” Fang Zhiwei shook her head. Her soft voice brimmed with sorrow. “I want to see my father again and say a few words.”

She directed this sentence at Gu Kai.

Gu Kai nodded. “I’ll take you there.”

“No, my father wouldn’t want me to be connected to you in any way. Just have someone else take me,” Fang Zhiwei’s refusal surprised Mo Xiuchen, who lowered his gaze inquisitively toward Wen Ran.
