Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1342: 1341 doesn't care

Chapter 1342: 1341 doesn’t care

After playing wildly all night, Tongtong fell asleep in Gu Kai’s arms on the way home.

Though he hadn’t been drinking, his hand injury hadn’t healed yet. Bai Yiyi didn’t want to see him driving with one hand, so she insisted that he hold Tongtong instead. Gu Kai was happy to enjoy Bai Yiyi’s care and agreed readily.

Once home, Gu Kai carried Tongtong inside, went upstairs, and gently placed her on her toddler bed.

“I’ll go fetch some water to wash her face and hands,” Bai Yiyi said as she entered the bathroom, returning moments later with a bowl of warm water. Gu Kai once again picked Tongtong up from the bed. Tongtong, sleeping like a little piglet, remained completely undisturbed despite her parents’ fussing.

After washing her up, Gu Kai laid her back on the bed. She curled her lips into a wide smile and giggled.

“Tongtong?” Gu Kai called out tentatively. Nearby, Bai Yiyi laughed and said, “She’s not awake; she’s laughing in her sleep.”

Gu Kai chuckled softly, reaching out to caress Tongtong’s tender cheeks. He bent down and kissed her forehead gently, murmuring, “Tongtong, sweet dreams.”

Standing by his side, Bai Yiyi watched Gu Kai’s affectionate care for Tongtong, and warmth bubbled up in her chest. She said softly, “It’s getting late. You should head home and rest too.”

“Are you going to see me off?”

Gu Kai blinked, his jet-black eyes shimmering under the glow of the crystal chandelier, deep and clear.

Bai Yiyi avoided his gaze. The next moment, Gu Kai stood up from the bed’s edge, his height suddenly towering over her, making his presence feel even more imposing.

An air of tension, mingled with his familiar masculine scent, rushed toward her in an instant.

The air around her was locked in, and Bai Yiyi suddenly felt her heart flutter. In the very next second, her heartbeat spiraled out of control.

“Yiyi.”

Before she could speak, Gu Kai’s low voice landed in her ear.

Instinctively lifting her head, she met his deep, clear eyes. She pursed her lips reflexively and asked, “Are you still bothered by the fact that I used to date Fang Zhiwei?”

“No.”

Bai Yiyi shook her head and took half a step back, subtly trying to keep her distance.

Gu Kai pretended not to notice her retreat. He walked out of Tongtong’s room and into her bedroom.

Bai Yiyi hesitated for a moment, furrowing her brows slightly before following him inside.

Gu Kai was already seated on the sofa. Hearing her footsteps, he looked up and gazed at her.

“Yiyi, come over here.”

Bai Yiyi felt that her rational mind was swayed by the tenderness in his voice as he called her name. She obeyed, stepping forward to the sofa, but she didn’t sit down, simply standing by the coffee table.

“Back then, the reason I dated Fang Zhiwei was that during that period, I kept thinking about you, consciously and unconsciously.”

His words made Bai Yiyi’s eyes widen in astonishment.

She seemed unsure of his meaning, yet also felt she understood it somehow.

Gu Kai’s gaze softened as he looked at her, observing the range of emotions flitting across her beautiful face. His lips curled into a slight smile. “You don’t believe me?”

Bai Yiyi pressed her lips together. “It’s not that I don’t believe you; I’m just surprised.”

“Come with me to a place,” Gu Kai suddenly said as he stood up. In one swift motion, he grabbed Bai Yiyi’s wrist and pulled her along, striding out of the master bedroom. He headed downstairs, instructed the nanny to watch over Tongtong, then led Bai Yiyi out of the living room.

“Give me the car keys.”

“Where are we going?”

Bai Yiyi was puzzled and followed him, uncertain and bewildered.

In the car, Gu Kai urged her to fasten her seatbelt before settling in the driver’s seat himself. He didn’t reveal their destination.

“You’ll know once we get there.”

Bai Yiyi frowned slightly but didn’t press him. Instead, she reminded him, “Drive slower. If your hand starts hurting, I’ll take over.”

“It’s fine.”

Gu Kai smiled nonchalantly, starting the engine.

At first, Bai Yiyi had no idea where he was taking her, but halfway through the ride, she began to have a good guess.

Her emotions suddenly became complicated.

She turned slightly to look at Gu Kai, who was driving beside her. His facial features were striking under the dim light, his profile chiseled with sharp contours and his lips pressed together with a kind of quiet determination.

Looking at his handsome side profile, Bai Yiyi’s tangled feelings inexplicably softened. She thought about his earlier confession—that he had dated Fang Zhiwei because he couldn’t stop thinking about her during that time.

Her heart skipped another beat.

Gu Kai focused intently on driving and never once turned to look at Bai Yiyi. But as soon as her gaze lingered on him, the lines of his lips gradually softened.

“If you’re tired, take a nap. I’ll wake you up when we arrive.”

“I’m not tired,” Bai Yiyi immediately refused his suggestion without much thought.

With her current emotions, there was no way she could sleep.

Gu Kai seemed to pick up on her turbulent mood. He glanced at her briefly before curving his lips into a smirk. “If you keep using that kind of adoring gaze on me, it might affect my driving. Even if you’re not tired, just close your eyes and rest.”

“Adoring gaze?”

Bai Yiyi’s feelings suddenly dissipated like smoke blown away by his teasing remark.

Was she really looking at him with an adoring gaze?

“Yes. If I weren’t so bold, I’d be terrified you might pounce on me any moment. How could I keep my grip on the steering wheel?” Gu Kai teased her on purpose.

Bai Yiyi scoffed in disbelief, unable to accurately express her emotions at that moment. She rolled her eyes at him instead. “If you were so easy to pounce on, the nurses in your hospital would’ve done it a million times over.”

“Haha, good point,” Gu Kai laughed. “I’m not that easy to pounce on. To date, only one woman named Bai Yiyi has managed to do so. The rest? They don’t have the skill for it.”

Bai Yiyi couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. “So now I’m some kind of seductress, huh?”

“Pretty much. How else could I spend my whole life unable to escape your grasp?” Gu Kai’s smile was laced with enticing mischief.

Glancing at Bai Yiyi through the rearview mirror, he saw her simultaneously amused and annoyed expression. His gaze softened with a hint of warmth—spending a lifetime with her, he thought, wouldn’t be dull.

Bai Yiyi stopped arguing with him, knowing full well how sharp-tongued he could be. From her experience, the only way to win was to ignore him, leaving him no choice but to quiet down on his own.

She turned her head to gaze out of the car window. The countryside felt especially desolate during the deep autumn night, with only a few cars on the road.

She suddenly remembered how rushed she’d been when Gu Kai dragged her out earlier—she hadn’t even brought a coat.

Gu Kai, seated next to her, was only wearing a wool sweater, without a jacket. If he was indeed taking her where she suspected, stepping out in the chilly air might be unpleasant.

Time seemed to flow quickly as her mind wandered. Only when Gu Kai’s deep voice broke the silence inside the car did Bai Yiyi realize they’d arrived.

Blinking rapidly, she snapped back to reality. Gu Kai had already stepped out of the car, opened the trunk, and pulled out a jacket. He walked over to her, opened her car door, and said, “Come on, let’s go.”

Bai Yiyi nodded slightly as she got out. Without hesitation, Gu Kai draped the jacket over her shoulders, commanding gently, “Put it on.”
