"I..." A tear slid from the corner of Su Wanqing’s eye. She bit her lower lip tightly, a sense of injustice welling up inside her. ’I was the one who met Brother Jingyuan first.’

But then she thought about what her parents had told her.

A determined look entered her eyes.

Her parents had said that the Huo family was a hot commodity in the country. They were the most important connection if her family wanted to return to China in the future. Even if it meant being accused of wrecking a military marriage, she had to try and pry him away.

Many foreign businessmen had their eyes on the Southern cities, which were rebuilding from scratch. Now was the absolute easiest time to get in and make money, and besides, they could have a hand in both domestic and foreign markets.

She reached up to wipe the tears from her eyes. "I understand, Grandma Liu. I’ll keep my distance from Brother Jingyuan from now on. But... could you do me a favor?"

"What favor?"

"I... I’d like to work at Beijing Hospital."

She had caused a huge scene with the military just to leave the Northwest, so she was probably blacklisted from all public institutions by now.

If she wanted to keep working in Beijing, she’d have to find someone to pull some strings. Her own connections were all abroad; in China, the Huo family had the most extensive network.

Grandma Liu considered it. Arranging for someone to get a job at a hospital wasn’t a huge issue, especially since Wanqing was qualified. Her eyes crinkled into a smile as she asked:

"Wanqing, which hospital in Beijing would you like to work at? Do you want to stay in surgery, or would you prefer a more relaxed position?"

"Any hospital is fine."

Su Wanqing blinked. She wasn’t picky about the working environment right now. ’After all, could it be any worse than the Northwest Military Region?’

Beijing was the Capital City, after all. The working conditions in the hospitals there should be quite good.

Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, "So, should I still invite my mentor to China to give Brother Jingyuan a check-up?"

Her mentor was a top expert in surgery overseas.

"That won’t be necessary."

Grandma Liu refused bluntly. She didn’t want Jingyuan to be indebted to anyone, especially not to a top surgical expert brought in from overseas.

The debt of favor would be too great.

"Alright, then." Su Wanqing didn’t press the issue.

After all, she had just promised Grandma Liu she wouldn’t pester Huo Jingyuan. Insisting now would be a blatant attempt to make him owe her a favor.

Grandma Liu seemed to think of something. She had a distant cousin’s son who was about twenty-five or twenty-six this year, from a good family.

"Wanqing, how about I introduce you to someone? He’s my cousin’s son, from a good family, and he’s in the trading business in a coastal city."

"Huh?"

Su Wanqing was taken aback for a moment. Then, she met the old woman’s gaze, and after a moment’s thought, she shook her head. "Thank you for your kind intentions, Grandma Liu.

Right now, my only wish is to serve my country."

Hearing Su Wanqing’s grand, patriotic declaration, Grandma Liu nodded in satisfaction. "Wanqing, when would you like to start your job in Beijing?"

"I’m available anytime."

"The Monday after next?"

She thought, ’Su Wanqing just got back from Beijing a few days ago.’ She wanted to let her rest and enjoy Hangzhou for a few more days. "How does that sound?"

"That’s fine."

Grandma Liu left the room and went to the study to make a phone call to contact a friend of hers. Many businessmen had invested in foreign equipment for Beijing Hospital.

「Meanwhile.」

Huo Jingyuan was carefully packing up the computer at home. He had kept the original packaging it was sent in from overseas, and he fit the foam inserts in snugly.

"So, should we go home tomorrow?" Huo Jingyuan asked.

"I’m fine with whatever."

But Wen Ci secretly hoped Huo Jingyuan could stay in Hangzhou a little longer to spend more time with the two elders. They didn’t have their children with them and were already in their seventies.

The next time Huo Jingyuan had such a long vacation...

Who knew how long that would be.
