First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3143 - Heavenly Sovereigns Pale in Terms of Courage

  • Next Chapter

Su Yi stood alone, tall and proud beneath the dome of heaven. His blue robes billowed around him. It seemed as if he looked at even the heavens themselves with contemptuous pride.

When his voice rang out, countless people were astonished. He’s just one person, yet he’s challenging the Heavenly Sovereigns—and encouraging them to accept death without cowardice.

How tyrannical is that? And how courageous?

But it was for this reason that many of the onlookers’ heads buzzed. They found the situation hard to believe.

After all, everyone thought of Su Yi as a sword cultivator yet to become a Heavenly Sovereign. As impressive as his battle in the Divine Wandering Continent was, it only proved that he could defend himself against Heavenly Sovereigns. He was still far weaker than them!

Who could have imagined that he’d challenge them all simultaneously while the whole world watched?

He wasn’t even letting his two allied Heavenly Sovereigns, Hua Qingyi and Ku Xuan, fight by his side!

Everyone was wondering the same thing. Where... does Su Yi get all this confidence?

The Heavenly Sovereigns found it difficult to understand, too. They couldn’t help but suspect that Su Yi was so confident because he had some powerful hidden card they didn’t yet know about.

“If you want to die, that’s simple enough, but first, I feel that I must warn you. No powers beyond the bounds of Eternity are permitted to intervene in what happens here!” Heavenly Sovereign E said coldly.

Su Yi laughed dryly. “I’m not concerned, so why are you? Are Heavenly Sovereigns really so lacking in courage?”

The Heavenly Sovereigns' brows furrowed.

The Threelives Buddha said suddenly, “What will you do if we split into two groups and attack you and your companions simultaneously?”

Silence descended over the crowd.

Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s gaze was strange. He’d asked Su Yi that very question. Now, the Threelives Buddha was obviously wondering the same thing.

“You’re welcome to try it and see,” said Su Yi. He flipped his palm, and Nine in Third floated into the air. “I’ll count to three. If you haven’t accepted my challenge by then, well, forgive me for not playing with you any longer.”

The Threelives Buddha’s brow furrowed. “What is the meaning of this, Fellow Daoist? You invited us here to witness the ceremony, and you’re the one who brought up a battle to the death, so why say something like that before the battle has even begun?”

Heavenly Sovereign E’s eyes flashed, his voice icy. “Did you cause such an enormous commotion just to mess with us?”

Su Yi disregarded the questions and whispered, “One.”

The atmosphere was suddenly stifled. The Heavenly Sovereigns exchanged glances and communicated through voice transmission. They were discussing how to handle this.

The Threelives Buddha said, “We came all this way. There’s no reason for you to refuse to accompany us, nor is there any need to rush. We’ll fight to the death sooner or later, so why not...”

“Two,” said Su Yi. He didn’t explain, nor did he urge them on in any way, but the distant onlookers’ hearts tensed.

The Threelives Buddha suddenly laughed. “Very well. I can see that you’re determined to seek out your own demise, so how could we possibly refuse you?”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, his lotus platform shot into the sky, carrying him into the firmament.

Practically simultaneously, Heavenly Sovereign E, Heavenly Sovereign Wen, and the others vanished. A moment later, they appeared beneath the dome of heaven.

Boom!

The Laws churned overhead. Lightning flashed, and thunder boomed as all manner of unbelievable phenomena manifested.

All eyes were upon them. Now that the battle was about to begin, no one spoke. Everyone held their breath and watched with rapt attention.

Meanwhile, atop Snowy Gale Mountain, Heavenly Sovereigns Ku Xuan and Hua Qingyi silently took up positions in front of Lu Ye, Luo Yan, and Pu Xuan.

On the other hand, Ruo Su sat casually in the clouds above Divine Reverence Pavilion, watching quietly from afar as she brewed tea over a little red clay furnace.

She could sense Su Yi’s frustrations at a glance. All that talk of “refusing to accompany them any further” simply meant that he didn’t want to waste any more time. He wanted to skip the chatter and just fight already.

She thought to herself, Perhaps that directness is the very reason why they’re so hesitant, suspicious, and full of reservations.

She couldn’t help but smile at the thought of it. Sometimes, the world really was absurd.

Admittedly, the whole world was paying attention to this battle; even the Mountain of the Secluded Ones was watching in secret. Everyone assumed that Su Yi had made elaborate plans and preparations, or that he’d invited numerous powerful helpers.

Who could have imagined that Su Yi had never so much as considered any of that?

Now, the long-awaited battle was finally about to begin. Ruo Su couldn’t help but feel eager. Just how strong has Su Yi become?

Meanwhile, although almost no one present noticed, a group of Secluded Ones was watching the proceedings, too.

The sight of Su Yi challenging the whole group of Heavenly Sovereigns alone astonished even them. Should I call him courageous, or is he just sick in the head?

Old Lord Gouchen stood there calmly.

It would have made perfect sense for Su Yi to have prepared numerous countermeasures. It would have been well within the normal rules of engagement, and not the least bit surprising.

Yet Su Yi had decided against it. This surprised him, but more than that, it filled his heart with deep curiosity.

At least in terms of courage, the Threelives Buddha and the other Heavenly Sovereigns are a notch inferior. Old Lord Gouchen sighed to himself.

The grand battle was about to begin. He couldn’t help but feel eager to see how many other surprises Su Yi had in store.

He just hoped that whatever it was... was a pleasant surprise, and not a nasty shock.

Meanwhile, beneath the dome of heaven, the Laws of the surrounding area churned, manifesting within the natural order like interweaving lightning.

Su Yi scanned his enemies. In the end, he couldn’t help but sigh. “It really wasn’t easy to get all of you to come here to meet your end.”

The Threelives Buddha sighed, too. “We’ve fought for countless years. Still, I would never have guessed that we’d settle our ancient feud in such a way.”

By now, he was finally convinced that Su Yi really hadn’t prepared anything. He really did just want a simple, direct battle to the death.

It was so simple that it actually piqued the other old-timers’ suspicions.

“A duel to the death ultimately comes down to who’s stronger,” Su Yi said calmly. “Enough. No need for idle chatter. Let’s end things today once and for all.”

He shook his sleeves, then stretched languidly. It was a seemingly inadvertent gesture, and his tall, thin frame didn’t emanate so much as the barest trace of power, yet sword intent coursed beneath the surface of it all.

Like a long-dormant volcano that might erupt at any moment.

The Laws overhead reacted as if suppressed, then suddenly grew turbulent.

The Heavenly Sovereigns’ hearts shook. This was no more than a display of power, but it could suppress and shift the Laws. This demonstration proved beyond a doubt that Su Yi was different from before.

“His Heavenly Fate Realm cultivation is truly like nothing anyone’s ever seen before,” Heavenly Sovereign Wen sighed.

They’d already learned from the Threelives Buddha that Su Yi had already broken into the Heavenly Fate Realm. However, they had no way of estimating his strength.

This was because Su Yi’s path was completely different from other people’s. You could in no way judge him by his cultivation base.

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang took a sudden step forward, his eyes flashing like lightning. “Everyone, please hold up the rear. Permit me to test Su Yi’s mettle first!”

Boom!

His whole body erupted with dazzling, resplendent firelight. Countless arcs of radiance erupted, and a glittering golden platform of the Grand Dao appeared above his head.

Seven-colored light flowed over the platform, undulating with supreme Laws of the Grand Dao.

This was the Sevendeaths Golden Platform!

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang manifested an avatar. It, too, was the incarnation of his Sevendeaths Eternal Throne’s power.

The power emanating from Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang shook the skies throughout the Unfettered Continent, filling the heavens with seven kinds of colorful, resplendent light. It shook the entire world.

Boom!

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang attacked without the slightest hesitation. With a swing of his sleeves, the Sevendeaths Golden Platform descended from on high. Baleful light seemed to boil atop it, and seven strange, unfathomable visions of purgatory manifested around it, one for each of the seven emotions.

It was called the Seven Emotions Dao World. When struck, even mighty Heavenly Sovereigns would suffer a Disaster of Seven Emotions, losing themselves in the prison of the Seven Emotions Dao World. There, they’d be unable to truly live, yet unable to truly die.

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang had relied on it throughout his battles during the Devastation, and it was this power that let him reign supreme in the present age. Anyone he killed died of a shattered Dao Heart, losing themselves to obsession in their last moments.

As Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang’s attack hurtled toward him, Su Yi stood in place, unmoving save for the rumbling of his wooden sword. With a turn of his wrists, he attacked.

The low hum of a sword rang out, its sword light dull and unassuming.

Yet when this slash flew through the air, the Sevendeaths Golden Platform was forced back, scattering endless divine radiance.

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang’s brow furrowed. The other Heavenly Sovereigns’ eyes narrowed, too.

Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang hadn’t held anything back. On the contrary, he’d used a true divine ability of the Grand Dao.

But Su Yi had blocked it anyway!

This unquestionably confirmed their earlier hypothesis. Su Yi really had grown strong enough to clash with Heavenly Sovereigns.

“So, this is all a Heavenly Sovereign’s strength amounts to,” Su Yi said calmly. He flicked the flat of his wooden sword, then swept his gaze over the Heavenly Sovereigns. “Attack together. This is no clash of the Grand Dao. There’s no need for all this caution and probing, either!”

Boom!

As he spoke, he took the initiative to attack, swinging his sword at Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang.

This strike was obviously different from his last. The humming of the sword was low and impassioned, but its radiance was like the first light of a new dawn cleaving through the darkness.

It was like dazzling electricity flashing through the skies of the Unfettered Continent, illuminating the world. Its glow filled the dome of heaven!

“What a shocking slash!”

“What level of sword force is this?”

“How could someone yet to fuse with an Eternal Throne possibly unleash such a powerful attack?”

The Secluded Ones watching in secret couldn’t help but feel stunned.

“The glint of his edge, that’s all, yet light filled the dome of heaven, and not even the Laws of the Unfettered Continent could stop it. Truly impressive!” Ruo Su’s eyes shone with strange light.

Had that strike been the work of a Heavenly Sovereign, it wouldn’t have been all that strange.

But Su Yi was still just a Heavenly Monarch. Such power was unbelievable coming from him.

Because his attack was every bit as strong as those of the present-day Heavenly Sovereigns!

“Excellent. Excellent. Excellent!” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said excitedly. His heart had been on tenterhooks this entire time, but now, he was finally starting to relax.

“He really does have a knack for expanding people’s horizons.” Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi nodded. Inwardly, she sighed in relief, too.

Earlier, she’d assumed Su Yi had mastered some sort of taboo killer weapon. She figured that was why he was so fearless.

Now, it seemed she’d been completely mistaken. Su Yi’s Heavenly Fate Realm cultivation base was strong enough to break the seemingly insurmountable wall between Heavenly Monarchs and Heavenly Sovereigns!

This was an unprecedented miracle in the making!
