First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3132 - Seeing Heavenly Fate
The ancestral grounds of the Taiwu Sect.
When Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan saw Su Yi arrive weary from his long journey, he smiled straight from the heart. Never mind the rest; if only in terms of sheer courage, no one beneath the heavens could compare with his little brother!
“For now, there’s no need to say a word,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, pulling him into an embrace. “Let’s drink! And let’s not stop until we’re both dead drunk!”
Su Yi laughed. “I’m just afraid you don’t have enough wine in storage for that.”
“Hahaha! We’ll just have to try it and see!” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan burst into laughter.
That very day, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan arranged for a banquet and invited every old monster in the Taiwu Sect to join them.
Everyone feasted and drank, the atmosphere vibrant with laughter and conversation.
In the latter half of the night, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan carried a jug of wine over to Su Yi for a private chat. He spoke of recent developments in the Eternal Heavens Domain.
“The world will soon descend into chaos,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, a bit tipsy. He let out a long sigh. “Outsider Celestial Demons have been cropping up all over the place, causing no small number of disasters. By now, wherever you go, you’re sure to see armies, chaos, and war.
“They say that only a portion of their forces have entered the world, and that the true top experts have yet to arrive. However, at this rate, it will only be a few years before all of them find a path into the Eternal Heavens Domain and sweep across our lands.”
His brow furrowed with anxiety. “I experienced the upheaval of the Devastation firsthand, and I witnessed the cataclysms that swept across this world. Most involved the Outsider Celestial Demons.
“Thus, I understand better than just about anyone what their return will mean for the Eternal Heavens Domain. The ground will run red with rivers of blood. Countless people will die!” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan threw back his head and drank. “When the time comes, even Heavenly Sovereign factions might fall at any moment, let alone more typical sects and clans.”
He took advantage of his intoxication to let everything out at once. It was obvious he’d pent this up for a long time.
“I’m no great sage concerned for the well-being of all living creatures, but how could I possibly enjoy watching that demon scum bring ruin to the populace?
“But Heavenly Sovereign E and the other old scoundrels don’t give a damn what happens to the masses. They’ve focused all of their efforts on eliminating you. They’re cold-hearted and selfish to the extreme!
Su Yi just laughed in response. Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was obviously speaking out of anger.
The Heavenly Sovereigns were all looking out for their own interests. Unless the calamities happened on their doorstep, what reason did they have to go out and risk themselves fighting the Outsider Celestial Demons?
That was just how people were.
He couldn’t one-sidedly proclaim that in terms of turmoil, the Heavenly Sovereigns had to step forth and save the masses from fire and water.
It might be cruel to say this, but there was no savior in this world. Everyone had their own allegiances, and they fought for themselves and their own people.
But at the same time, Su Yi agreed with Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s complaints. When the nest was overturned, what egg remained intact? When the Outsider Celestial Demons invaded en masse and swept across the Eternal Heavens Domain, there was no way the Heavenly Sovereigns could remain bystanders!
The Outsider Celestial Demons had already invaded. The Heavenly Sovereigns were revered far and wide. If they did nothing, who would respect them going forward? How could they be worthy of all that reverence?
Su Yi disdained coercing others into action in the name of justice. He just knew that in Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s shoes, he would have reacted the same way. There was no way he’d just sit back and watch as the demons brought ruin to the world!
Once they’d gone over the current situation in the Eternal Heavens Domain, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said, “Little Brother, you shouldn’t have come. If I’m not mistaken, the other Heavenly Sovereigns’ avatars have already picked up a few hints.”
Su Yi smiled between sips of wine. “This is your territory, Ol’ Brother. What need do I have to worry about all that?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan snapped, “My shoulders can’t bear the weight of all that!”
Su Yi wiped the smile off his face, then said, “I won’t lie to you. I never considered hiding my presence when I came here. If anything, I’d prefer that they knew I was back.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s gaze focused. “What do you mean?”
Su Yi said casually, “Naturally, I want to duke it out with them.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was instantly startled, but then, something occurred to him. He couldn’t help but ask, “Little Brother, have you... already become a Heavenly Sovereign?”
Su Yi shook his head. “I only just recently stepped into the Heavenly Fate Realm.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was flabbergasted. “But on your way here, you sensed my awareness intermingled with the Laws. How did you do that if you’re not a Heavenly Sovereign?”
Su Yi looked directly at him. “Would you believe me if I said I was now strong enough to fight Heavenly Sovereigns?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan suddenly drained his jug of wine, then said, “I would! Otherwise, you would never have come here. There’s no way you’d brazenly disregard my warnings and come all the way here just to throw your life away!”
Su Yi slowly rose to his feet, put his hands behind his back, and paced. He said softly, “It’s been over a decade since I left the God Domain. It’s time I ended the enmity between the Heavenly Sovereigns and me once and for all!”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s heart shook. “Are you going to just declare war?”
Su Yi shook his head. “The cultivated gentleman hides his weapon and waits for the right opportunity. I’ve decided to end things with them, but I naturally ought to find an opportunity to take them all out at once. I cannot shake the grass and alert the serpents lightly.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan rubbed his cheeks. “I told you that killing a Heavenly Sovereign isn’t as simple as you seem to think it is. What... specifically do you plan to do?”
Su Yi could tell that Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan wasn’t the least bit confident in him, but he didn’t explain. All he said was, “First, bring me to the disciples of the Heart-Tempering Sword House. Then we’ll find a suitable opportunity to train two of their number into Heavenly Sovereigns.”
“??” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan didn’t know what to make of that. He wants to train two Heavenly Sovereigns? How could it possibly be so easy?
A moment later, the realization hit him. His eyes lit up. “You found the Severing Emptiness Eternal Throne in the Abyss of Endless Tribulations?”
Su Yi nodded.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan slapped his thigh. “No wonder you’re so fearless. So, you really did come prepared!”
He naturally understood that Su Yi had the Yitian Eternal Throne as well. That really did amount to two opportunities to become a Heavenly Sovereign.
Unless something unexpected happened, the Heart-Tempering Sword House would soon have two Heavenly Sovereigns!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was instantly excited. If that happens, what Heavenly Sovereign faction will be capable of fighting the Heart-Tempering Sword House?
This will completely rewrite the balance of power!
A moment later, he suddenly came to his senses and realized a critical problem. “You... don’t plan to become a Heavenly Sovereign yourself?”
Su Yi shook his head. “For now, there’s no need for that.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan nodded, but he misunderstood. He assumed that Su Yi was holding back because his cultivation base was still too low, and that he simply wasn’t capable of proving his Dao and becoming a Heavenly Sovereign yet.
It made sense. After all, he’d only just broken into the Heavenly Fate Realm, and everyone knew that only peak Heavenly Monarchs had the foundations necessary to become Heavenly Sovereigns!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan sighed. “Do you think we might be rushing things?”
“We can’t wait any longer,” Su Yi said calmly. “Within just a few years, the Eternal Heavens Domain will face unprecedented upheaval. We have to resolve all of these loose ends before that happens!”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan instantly fell silent. He could tell that Su Yi had already decided, and that he wouldn’t change his mind.
A while passed before Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan responded. “Then do you know what kind of disturbance results when someone proves their Dao and becomes a Heavenly Sovereign?”
Su Yi nodded. “I’ve heard a bit about it.”
There were three strict conditions one had to fulfill before becoming a Heavenly Sovereign. First, they needed an Eternal Throne. Second, they had to prove their Dao in the Eternal Heavens Domain.
This was because the Eternal Heavens Domain was the closest place to the Laws of Destiny in the territories associated with the River of Destiny. It was thus only in the Eternal Heavens Domain that someone could master a portion of its Laws and establish the foundations needed to become a Heavenly Sovereign.
Third, when they broke through, they’d face a Tribulation of Destiny, inviting strange phenomena of heaven and earth so enormous that everyone in the Eternal Heavens Domain would notice.
That meant that anyone who wanted to disrupt the tribulation would have ample opportunities to do so.
There’d been cases of external enemies disrupting tribulations and ruining someone’s attempt to become a Heavenly Sovereign during both the Primordial Era and the Devastation!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said solemnly, “Tell me, then, Little Brother. Do you think the other Heavenly Sovereigns will just sit back and watch as someone from the Heart-Tempering Sword House becomes a Heavenly Sovereign?”
Su Yi didn’t even pause to think. “They’re sure to try to interfere!”
It wouldn’t just be the six Heavenly Sovereigns already here. Su Yi dared say with certainty that the Threelives Buddha would get involved too. It was even entirely possible that the Destiny and Celestial Demons would show up!
It would be no exaggeration to say that attempting such a breakthrough would invite grave peril and unforeseeable disaster.
After all, the Destiny Demons saw Su Yi as their fated foe. The Celestial Demons saw him as the greatest impediment to their takeover. The Threelives Buddha was his irreconcilable enemy, and the six Heavenly Sovereigns represented the will of various factions of the Far Shore. They all had him on their must-kill list.
How could any of them possibly tolerate two allied Heavenly Sovereigns arising among Su Yi’s allies?
If that happened, it would rewrite the Eternal Heavens Domain’s balance of power, just as the Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said.
Su Yi and the Heart-Tempering Sword House would become a faction capable of suppressing all others in the Eternal Heavens Domain.
One sect would have two Heavenly Sovereigns and Su Yi. Who’d dare to underestimate such a lineup?
Especially since Su Yi was Destiny’s Chosen. He had several allied River Ancestors, plus Heavenly Sovereigns Ku Xuan and Qingyi.
If Su Yi succeeded in raising two Heavenly Sovereigns, who in the Eternal Heavens Domain would be able to compete with him?
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan naturally understood all that. He knew better than just about anyone what would happen if someone in the Heart-Tempering Sword House tried to become a Heavenly Sovereign!
His gaze was utterly solemn. “Little Brother, do you have countermeasures in mind?”
For some inexplicable reason, Su Yi thought of the Threelives Buddha. When it came to plotting and scheming, he was unquestionably the greatest master around. He set plans in motion with the utmost subtlety and precision, letting seemingly unrelated events coalesce into an interconnected web.
But even though they’d been at odds for countless years, the Threelives Buddha had never come out ahead in any of their competitions.
It wasn’t that his schemes were lacking, but rather that no matter his plans, victory and defeat ultimately came down to a contest of strength!
As a sword cultivator, Su Yi had always looked down on these unseemly, petty little tricks.
This was what he thought as he gave his answer.
When Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan heard his plan, he couldn’t help but gasp, astonishment written all over his face. “Little Brother, are you... serious?”
Su Yi chuckled. “Does it seem like I’m joking, Ol’ Brother?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s expression shifted erratically. “This is too great a risk. If you lose control of the situation, you can forget about creating a Heavenly Sovereign, but that isn’t even the worst of it. You’ll be completely doomed!”
Su Yi took out a jug of wine and had a sip. “I’ll do everything in my power, but the rest is up to heavenly fate.”
A strange light lit in Su Yi’s eyes.
Heavenly fate? Who decides heavenly fate? Who among the Heavenly Fate Realm Heavenly Monarchs and Heavenly Sovereigns would dare speak of heavenly fate before me?
