First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3133 - What Are You Playing at?
A long time passed before Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan steadied himself and said, “Do this, and the whole Eternal Heavens Domain will ignite like a powder keg. Aren’t you worried that the forces of the Far Shore will show up?”
Su Yi said casually, “Even if they do, they won’t dare to intervene."
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan took a deep breath. “This is the most insane thing I’ve ever heard in my life, but if you’ve made up your mind, I’ll just have to join you!”
Su Yi blinked at him. “Ol’ Brother, it seems to me that you’re even more reckless than I am. You’re really going to cast aside your reservations and play games with your life with me?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said irritably, “You’re going to such lengths, so how could I shrink back?”
Su Yi was touched. He said solemnly, “This is just one of my plans, but we still need to take our time to work out the details. There’s no rush.”
He paused, then said, “I won’t lie to you. I’ve already made plans for the worst, including ensuring the Taiwu Sect’s safety. Rest assured. Even if the worst comes to pass, everyone in the Taiwu Sect will be just fine!”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan grinned. “Then I have nothing to worry about!”
The two of them drank and chatted until the sun rose.
Meanwhile, that same night, elsewhere in the Blackwater Celestial Capital, six Heavenly Sovereigns’ avatars of will gathered for a conversation of their own.
“Ol’ Ku Xuan’s been turtled up all this time. Now, he suddenly showed himself, then deliberately obscured the mysteries of the heavens from our senses. He’s got to be hiding something!” Heavenly Sovereign E’s eyes flashed with cold light.
“Do you think Su Yi has arrived?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen said gravely.
Heavenly Sovereign Changhen shook his head. “Impossible! Ku Xuan and Su Yi are in contact via a message talisman. Given the circumstances, how could Ku Xuan possibly let Su Yi come here just to throw his life away?”
“How about we visit the Taiwu Sect as their ‘guests’ and talk to Old Man Ku Xuan directly?” suggested Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang. “Perhaps then we can get some answers.”
“No, that won’t do,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ling. “We’ve been spying on Old Ku Xuan all this time, and he’s long since accumulated a bellyful of fury. If we visit, he’s sure to cast aside his reservations and attack. If he does, it’ll ruin our plans. It would be most unwise to risk it.”
Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu said, “Who cares what Ku Xuan is up to? All we have to do is keep a close eye on the Blackwater Celestial Capital and make sure nothing eludes our senses, not even the smallest blade of grass rustling in the wind.”
The Heavenly Sovereigns conversed amongst themselves, but each had a different view.
When dawn broke, Heavenly Sovereign E suddenly laughed. “Everyone, I just received a message from my true body. I have wonderful news!”
The others froze, then immediately started asking questions.
Heavenly Sovereign E couldn’t hide his delight. “Yesterday, my true body made contact with Sovereign Venerate Yi’s greatest general, Chu Shanke, and successfully established an alliance!”
The others couldn’t help but look impressed.
Back when the battle in the Sea of Fate ended, Heavenly Sovereign E suggested that they work with the Primordial Divine Court to defeat Su Yi.
But against all expectations, Sovereign Venerate Yi refused and expressed his disdain for the very concept of an alliance with them.
His aloof pride had infuriated and displeased the Heavenly Sovereigns. Sovereign Venerate Yi was just an old-timer trapped beneath a stele, unable to break free, but he acted like this was still the Primordial Era, when he was still the Sovereign Among Sovereigns.
They hadn’t had much hope that he’d change his mind, but now, the Primordial Divine Court had agreed to an alliance of their own accord. No, they’d already established an alliance with Heavenly Sovereign E.
This was naturally wonderful news, and the Heavenly Sovereigns were all excited about it. “With help from the Primordial Divine Court, Su Yi will be doomed as soon as he returns to the Eternal Heavens Domain!”
In the past, the Heavenly Sovereigns had never really taken Su Yi all that seriously. Even though their many attempts to kill him had ended in failure, they didn’t think he was qualified to be their enemy.
However, a series of recent events had changed their attitude toward him considerably.
In the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, they realized on a visceral level just how heaven-defying Su Yi’s foundations in the Grand Dao were. It was also then that they learned how terrifying his background was.
The arrival of all those sword cultivators of Sword Sovereign City had even struck terror into their hearts.
Fortunately, Sword Sovereign City had long since been laid to ruin. There was no way the factions of the Far Shore of Destiny would let it rise from the ashes, either.
It was after the battle in the Divine Wandering Continent that the Heavenly Sovereigns first sensed a real threat.
Su Yi had appeared with Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, then forced Heavenly Sovereign Wen to flee back to his territory in disgrace. Who wouldn’t have been astonished after that?
From that day forth, all of the Heavenly Sovereigns had been cognizant of the fact that Su Yi could now defend himself against them, at least a little.
And that was when he was still only in the Immeasurable Realm!
After the battle in the Sea of Fate and the death of a Grandmaster of Three Purities Temple, the Heavenly Sovereigns were now fully aware that Su Yi was a serious threat.
The Mountain of the Secluded Ones had announced that the forces of the Far Shore of Destiny wouldn’t get involved any further, but Su Yi was still a major thorn in the Heavenly Sovereigns’ sides, and an enormous latent threat.
It was to the point that they had to eliminate him as quickly as possible, no matter the cost!
That was why they’d sent their avatars of will to surveil the Blackwater Celestial Capital and watch Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s every move. Their ultimate goal was taking Su Yi down.
“That’s right. With the Primordial Divine Court’s help, there’ll be nowhere for Su Yi to run. He can’t even hide in the Southern Sea anymore!” Heavenly Sovereign Ling said with a laugh.
Su Yi had been declared the Master of the Four Seas, and in the Southern Sea, he had the geographical advantage. Moreover, he could use his position as Destiny’s Chosen to command the River Ancestors.
That was the part the Heavenly Sovereigns found the most troublesome. They wanted to defeat Su Yi, but they were struggling to find an opportunity to do so.
But things were naturally different now.
“Then do you think we still need to keep an eye on Ku Xuan?” asked Heavenly Sovereign Changhen.
He’d only just said this when the six of them sensed Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan leaving the Taiwu Sect’s ancestral grounds!
The sun had only just risen when two figures emerged from the Taiwu Sect’s ancestral grounds, making no attempt to hide their presence.
These were none other than Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan and Su Yi.
When the six Heavenly Sovereigns saw this, their eyes lit up. Su Yi actually showed himself!
This was completely outside their expectations. They couldn’t even imagine where Su Yi got the guts to appear out in the open like this.
“Thank you for helping me watch over my home of late,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, laughing into the firmament. “Having a whole pack of old dogs keeping watch has been great. The Blackwater Celestial Capital has never been so peaceful before!”
Su Yi barely resisted the urge to laugh. He manages to be insulting without a single word of profanity. Every word is like a stab in the heart!
Su Yi extended a wisp of his awareness into the surrounding Laws, then instantly discovered the location of the six Heavenly Sovereigns' avatars.
But he made no attempt to sense them in further detail. With Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan here, there was simply no need.
The six Heavenly Sovereigns’ expressions darkened.
Heavenly Sovereign E said, “Old Man Ku Xuan, do you and Su Yi plan to lay all your cards out on the table?”
His brow furrowed. He couldn’t figure out what the two of them were playing at.
“I wouldn’t call it that. Rather, my little brother Su Yi plans to rebuild the Heart-Tempering Sword House soon, and when the time comes, he’ll naturally invite his fellow Daoists from across the world to celebrate with him,” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said leisurely. “Of course, if you old dogs catch a whiff of the festivities, he wouldn’t mind tossing you a few bones to gnaw on.”
The corners of Su Yi’s lips twitched. This is obviously serious business, but he’s turned it into a grave humiliation.
He’s obviously a master of sarcasm. He’s achieved true peak mastery of the Dao of Snark, to the point that it flows out of him effortlessly.
“Rebuilding the Heart-Tempering Sword House? Hah! I’m afraid no one will agree to that!” Heavenly Sovereign Ling said coldly.
The other Heavenly Sovereigns found this hard to believe, too. They couldn’t even imagine where Su Yi got the courage to talk about rebuilding the Heart-Tempering Sword House under the circumstances.
How was that any different from seeking out his own demise? He was simply sick in the head!
“Agree or not, it isn’t up to old dogs like you to decide,” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said, his face nothing but smiles. “You’ll see for yourself when the time comes.”
The Heavenly Sovereigns’ brows furrowed. They were increasingly bewildered, and increasingly unable to tell what Su Yi and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan were thinking.
As for Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s insults? They disregarded those completely.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan waved. “Go back to your dens and tell your true bodies that the Heart-Tempering Sword House will return any day now. If they want to pounce like the hungry dogs they are, they’d best prepare.”
With that, he led Su Yi away. A single step carried them across a seemingly endless expanse.
The six Heavenly Sovereign avatars could only watch as Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan and Su Yi left the Blackwater Celestial Capital openly, right under their noses.
It seemed they weren’t the least bit afraid that the avatars would seize the opportunity to attack the Taiwu Sect, nor were they afraid of being followed.
It was so out of the ordinary that the six Heavenly Sovereigns couldn’t help but furrow their brows. What exactly is going on here? The moment Su Yi returned after his long disappearance, Old Man Ku Xuan turned into a hooligan. He even dares insult us to our faces and leave the Blackwater Celestial Capital undefended!
“Everyone, it doesn’t matter what they’re after or what they’re playing at. None of that is important anymore!” Heavenly Sovereign E’s eyes flashed with cold light. “Before we do anything else, we have to send word to our true bodies, and we have to give chase. Whatever we do, we can’t lose sight of them!”
“Got it!”
“Yes, exactly!”
The other Heavenly Sovereigns had seen just about everything under the sun before, and they naturally didn’t lose their composure.
They reached a decision, then promptly got to work.
Even as they sent their messages, they shot off after Su Yi and Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan.
But when they left the Blackwater Celestial Capital, they were both surprised to discover that there was no sign of either of them. Not even a trace of them remained!
That was unusual, as when Heavenly Sovereigns moved, they inevitably resonated with the Laws of the surrounding area. Even when they hid their auras, they couldn’t hide the vestiges left within the Laws.
Yet now, even that had vanished!
The six Heavenly Sovereigns’ expressions darkened. All of them realized that Su Yi was somehow behind this unusual development.
After all, if Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan were capable of this, he would never have turtled up in the Taiwu Sect all this time.
