First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3128 - Have You Seen Enough Yet?
River Ancestor Lu Shu and the others were suspended from the city walls, while a group of Negative Karma Destiny Demons knelt on the ground just outside the city.
Three of them—the old man in gold, the young man in red, and the woman in gray—were experts, every bit as capable as Ying Qi. They could slaughter River Ancestors with ease.
Yet now, they’d been suppressed and forced to the ground, their heads buried in the dirt, just like everyone else!
Only Su Yi remained standing, solitary and upright, blue robes swaying around him, calm, yet extraordinary.
Su Yi’s expression hadn’t so much as rippled since he’d arrived at the Spirit Treasure Celestial City. He didn’t react when surrounded, or when he was provoked or insulted.
Even now, he showed no sign of emotion. His calm was bone-deep. There was no need to give it words or show joy or sorrow on his face.
But when he attacked, everything changed.
The woman in white atop the formation felt a chill in her hands and feet. She controlled the formation single-handedly. With it, she could kill River Ancestors effortlessly.
Yet now, even when she drew on the full power of the formation, pushing it to its limit, she couldn’t shake the all-encompassing abyss enveloping it.
When she saw her clansmen forced to the ground, her heart sank into the pit of her stomach. We miscalculated! Destiny’s Chosen isn’t weak at all. No, he’s strong! So strong that all of us misjudged him!
So strong that he disdained to even argue with us. It’s like we’re nothing to him!
And indeed, reality proved that she was right. When the battle began, Su Yi suppressed the entire group with casual ease, like a ruler displaying his power, overturning the heavens with a single thought!
The damned Threelives Buddha lied to us! Destiny’s Chosen is nowhere near as weak as he says! The woman in white silently clenched her jade-like fist.
As a priestess of the Destiny Demons, her position and strength were far beyond any ordinary person.
She took a deep breath, then said, “Su Yi, stop now, and I’ll return the hostages’ true names!”
Her cold, clear voice echoed throughout the surrounding area.
River Ancestor Lu Shu and the others suspended from the walls vanished into Su Yi’s sleeves.
Then, he turned to look at the woman standing tall atop the formation. “You kneel, too.”
He spoke calmly, with no momentum to speak of, but as his voice rang out, terrifying power emanated from the Book of Destiny, and the black hole-like abyss suddenly expanded.
Kaboom!
Heaven and earth shook, and the entire Bloodsoul Annihilation Formation was suddenly under a terrifying onslaught, pulled into the abyss.
The woman in white visibly lost her composure. She swung her blood-red scythe and tried her utmost to defend herself, but it was completely ineffectual. She was like a mantis trying to block a chariot!
Within a few blinks of an eye, this supreme killing formation of the Negative Karma Destiny Demons split and broke.
The woman in white narrowly avoided being devoured. At a critical juncture, she tapped the ground, then shot off, quick as lightning, scythe swinging at Su Yi.
It was like a bloody crescent moon, flashing with dazzling light, its edge incomparably sharp and brilliant.
Su Yi just stood there, unmoving. When the scythe’s blade light drew close, an invisible power of the Grand Dao blocked it just above his head.
The blade light froze, then exploded, inch by inch, like a firework going off above his head. After a moment’s resplendence, it withered.
The woman in white’s eyes widened with obvious astonishment.
Meanwhile, Su Yi waved his sleeve through the air, and her knees thudded to the ground. Even her blood-red scythe flew from her grip and into Su Yi’s hand.
A deathly silence descended over the crowd. Horror was written all over the Negative Karma Destiny Demons’ faces. Is this what Destiny’s Chosen is really capable of? Isn’t he a bit too terrifying?
When the Bloodsoul Annihilation Formation broke, the city came back into view. Ying Qi could finally see what was happening outside the gate.
The sight left him unwittingly stunned.
This was completely different from what he’d feared. Nothing bad had happened to Su Yi. On the contrary, he was the most eye-catching figure here by far.
Because he was the only one left standing. Everyone else was kneeling, even Priestess Fei Ya!
This... Ying Qi’s mind went blank.
He should have been happy to see that Su Yi was alive and well, because although only he knew it, if anything happened to Su Yi, Sovereign Preceptor Mo Hanyi and the others in the Book of Destiny would suffer, too.
But now, he couldn’t bring himself to relax. The reason was simple. His clansmen had lost, and it had been a completely crushing defeat at that!
“Don’t try to dissuade me, and don’t try to beg for mercy on their behalf. Just tell Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao everything that happens as you see it,” said Su Yi, his calm voice resounding clearly throughout heaven and earth.
Ying Qi’s heart shook, and his expression shifted. He really had considered pleading for mercy on his clansmen’s behalf.
But now, Su Yi obviously wasn’t giving him the opportunity!
Before Su Yi’s voice had even finished echoing through the air, he gripped the blood-red scythe and appeared before the old man in gold.
One gentle swing, and a bloody head flew from his shoulders.
Before the old man’s body could even topple to the ground, the Book of Destiny emitted mysterious light and collected his corpse.
His head, meanwhile, fell into the dirt, eyes still wide with fury.
“Su Yi, just you wait. We won’t let you go!” the man in red robes roared.
Splurt!
Another swing of the scythe, and he too fell, cut down like grass. His head fell to the ground, and his corpse vanished into the Book of Destiny, just like the old man’s.
Meanwhile, Su Yi shifted through space and arrived before the woman in gray, who shrieked, “Ying Qi, you and Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao are both traitors! You’ll die for this!”
Ying Qi fell silent, his expression conflicted. Am I a traitor? I’m doing this on Sovereign Preceptor Mo Hanyi’s orders, all in an attempt to save our people from annihilation.
Splurt!
The woman’s head flew through the air. She knew no peace even in death, but Su Yi didn’t react to her passing in any way.
“Kill us if you must, but don’t humiliate us. If you’ve got the balls, just kill us all. Why torment us like this?” the woman shouted.
Su Yi said calmly, “Torment? I’m different from the Destiny Demons. I wouldn’t sink to venting my fury on prisoners.”
As he spoke, he swung the scythe yet again, cutting down ten or so enemies.
River Ancestor Lu Shu and the others’ true names had indeed been dug out and refined. Su Yi was now rooting out the primary culprits. Once he’d gathered their corpses, he could find the lost true names!
Were that not the case, he’d have annihilated the lot of them by now. There was no way he’d have taken his time to kill them one by one like this.
Before long, Su Yi stretched and snapped his fingers.
Crack!
The blood-red scythe split into pieces. It was the priestess’ natal treasure, and when it was destroyed, she instantly suffered a backlash that left her coughing up blood repeatedly.
“It’s time to end this,” said Su Yi. He took a gentle step forward.
It was like an invisible earthquake. The kneeling Destiny Demons collapsed, shattering like porcelain statues, then crumbling into ash.
The priestess in white was no exception.
In the last moments before her death, all she could think was, Just how strong has Destiny’s Chosen become?
Ying Qi watched this all in a daze, inwardly despondent.
From beginning to end, Su Yi was utterly relaxed. He killed with casual, carefree ease.
But that only made everyone increasingly unsettled. They couldn’t even begin to imagine how strong he really was.
“I heard that the Destiny Demons are in the habit of collecting heads as proof of merit. You’re welcome to take these heads with you,” said Su Yi, gesturing to the heads on the floor, the trophies he’d deliberately left behind.
Ying Qi said bitterly, “Your Excellency, I’m afraid that pushing this hard is likely to prove counterproductive. Those stubborn old-timers won’t even consider submitting now.”
Su Yi turned to look at him, then said calmly, “I said it, didn’t I? Out of respect for Mo Hanyi, I’ll give you an opportunity to submit, but I don’t care whether you accept my offer or not.”
Ying Qi’s eyes dimmed, and he lowered his head in silence.
Su Yi picked up the Book of Destiny. “If they refuse to submit, fine. I’ll be sure to accompany them to the very end. We’ll see who’s smiling then.”
Ying Qi sighed. “I’ll tell Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao everything that happened here and let her decide how to respond.”
Su Yi inclined his head. “That’s exactly what you should do.”
He then changed the subject. “But if you wouldn’t mind, could you take this opportunity to update me on the Negative Karma Destiny Demons?”
Ying Qi had planned to update him earlier, but Su Yi had refused, as he was wholeheartedly fixated on saving his friends and in no mood to listen.
Things were naturally different now.
After a brief silence, Ying Qi nodded.
About fifteen minutes later, Su Yi just about understood the situation. The question of whether or not to submit had proven extremely divisive.
Sovereign Venerate Ling Zhao was but one of the four rulers. She’d acted in accordance with Mo Hanyi’s orders, repeatedly attempting to convince her clansmen to make peace with Destiny’s Chosen.
But the other three rulers were fiercely opposed. Moreover, they’d declared Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao a traitor for even suggesting it. This had sparked a fierce controversy.
By now, Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao was in a rather awkward position. Even her subordinates were displeased with her, and many had drawn lines between themselves and her.
She was now the least liked of the four rulers of the Negative Karma Destiny Demon race.
Moreover, if not for her position, she’d have been formally declared a traitor and punished a long time ago!
Su Yi took all of this in calmly. Looking at it from the Negative Karma Destiny Demons’ perspective, there really was an ocean of blood between them and Destiny’s Chosen. The prospect of submitting was naturally difficult to accept.
It was only natural that they’d fiercely oppose Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao’s decision.
But from Su Yi’s perspective, he was giving the Negative Karma Destiny Demons an opportunity!
If they didn’t want it, fine—but that would mean there was no further hope of reconciliation.
The one most wronged by all this was naturally Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao. She was caught in the middle, beset on all sides.
Su Yi pondered briefly. “Should the Negative Karma Destiny Demons face the worst possible outcome, I guarantee Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao a chance to live on.”
Ying Qi froze, then said bitterly, “I just hope... it doesn’t come to that...”
In the end, he took the bloody heads and left in low spirits, his heart full of bitterness. After this incident, he was increasingly convinced that reconciliation would be all but impossible!
It was easy to imagine how uncomfortable Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao’s situation would become.
He, too, would undoubtedly be cursed as a traitor!
But this was just the way of things. Sometimes, you were helpless to fix anything.
“Seen enough yet?”
Not long after Ying Qi left, Su Yi turned his head and gazed beyond the towering city gates.
