First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3129 - Going and Coming Back
When Su Yi arrived, the Spirit Treasure Celestial City had already been destroyed. The whole place had been laid to ruin. The walls were now just piles of rubble, the ground ran red with rivers of blood, and there were corpses strewn all over the place.
But when Su Yi spoke, one of the corpses lying in a pool of blood in the ruins beyond the city gates rose to his feet.
He was a long-haired man missing half of his skull, with prominent bones and blood-stained clothes.
However, when he stood, he silently transformed, taking on the appearance of a decrepit old man.
Even his essence, qi, and spirit silently shifted. When he looked around, his eyes were full of contemptuous pride.
He’d obviously been hiding in that broken corpse and watching the battle in secret earlier!
“You really are Destiny’s Chosen. Your powers of perception alone mark you as far superior to the foolish masses.” The old man put his hands behind his back, emerged through the gate, then stood leisurely just a thousand feet away.
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. “An Outsider Celestial Demon?”
The old man’s presence was strange and distinctive, yet rather similar to Innocence.
Su Yi had lost track of the heart devils he’d killed over the years, but he couldn’t think of a single one comparable to this old-timer.
The old man subtly inclined his head, then smiled. “This old man is called Zi Yu, and I’m from the Void. I’ve lived a humble, mediocre life, and I haven’t accomplished anything of note. The only thing worth mentioning is that I’ve lived a bit longer than most.”
Zi Yu!
In the Void, anyone who heard this name would jump in surprise, as Demon Sovereign Zi Yu was an unparalleled figure, the ruler of his territory. Moreover, he had a transcendent status among Outsider Celestial Demons.
However, the name was completely unfamiliar to Su Yi. He knew far too little about the Outsider Celestial Demons; not even Jiang Wuchen’s memories contained much information about them.
However, when Su Yi saw the old man, he couldn’t help but recall something that had happened not long ago.
A few years prior, when he and his allies went into hiding in the Golden Frost Forbidden Zone, Su Yi discovered an ancient spring.
It was only later that he learned there was a spacetime portal at the bottom, and it led directly to the Void, the home of the Outsider Celestial Demons.
Later, something went wrong, and both River Ancestor Lu Shu and River Ancestor Shen Xiao were invaded by heart devils.
Fortunately, Su Yi intervened to rescue them both.
At this thought, Su Yi said directly, “Were you perhaps involved in what happened in the Golden Frost Forbidden Zone?”
“The Golden Frost Forbidden Zone.” Demon Sovereign Zi Yu blinked, then realized what he was referring to. “Yes, you could say that. I planned to send a group across the spacetime barrier to assist us from the other side. We were going to work together to create a tunnel between the Void and the River of Destiny.”
He sighed deeply. “We would never have guessed that you’d ruin our plans in the end, Fellow Daoist!”
Su Yi frowned, then looked the old man up and down. “But it seems you’ve already found a way to enter the River of Destiny.”
“That’s indeed the case.” Demon Sovereign Zi Yu smiled. “According to the Threelives Buddha, we have you to thank for all this. Your battle in the Sea of Fate caused such a massive disturbance that it rippled throughout the River of Destiny. The resulting changes are what let us find a path into the River of Destiny.”
Su Yi fell silent.
The Destiny Demons of the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Zone have already sent their forces into the River of Destiny. Now, the Outsider Celestial Demons have done much the same.
To the people of the Eternal Heavens Domain, this is sure to be a disaster.
They’re different from the Destiny Demons. If the armies of the Void sweep across the world, it’ll be a true cataclysm for all cultivators!
Suddenly, he asked, “The Threelives Buddha has been in contact with you for a while now, hasn’t he?”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu smiled. “Yes, and it’s no secret. The Threelives Buddha wrote me a letter after the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. All of it was about you. He wasn’t stingy with his praises. In fact, he called you the greatest obstacle we’d face in our conquest of the River of Destiny!”
Can you really call that praise? Su Yi laughed dryly. “The bald donkey will really resort to any extremes to defeat me. Did he perhaps inform you of this trap in advance and encourage you to come spectate, too?”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu laughed. “I wouldn’t call it 'spectating.' I came here to witness your magnificence firsthand and see if you were really capable of becoming our greatest foe.”
All Su Yi had to say to that was, “Oh.”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu suddenly couldn’t help but ask, “Fellow Daoist, don’t you want to hear what I think of you after watching your battle?”
Su Yi shook his head slightly. “You’d best keep it to yourself. Your opinion of me isn’t worth hearing.”
“‘Isn’t worth hearing,’ huh?” Demon Sovereign Zi Yu burst into laughter and applause. “Impressive! It’s no wonder the Threelives Buddha says that so long as you live, we Outsider Celestial Demons can forget about reigning over the River of Destiny. Now that I’ve seen you for myself, I know he wasn’t exaggerating!”
Su Yi’s brow furrowed. “Is your true body here?”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu paused, then seemed to realize something. His gaze was suddenly strange. “I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, Fellow Daoist. My true body cannot yet enter this world.”
Su Yi sighed softly. “I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed. It’s just awfully dull. Should the opportunity arise, I’d actually love to visit the Void personally and test you Demon Sovereigns’ mettle.”
Su Yi suddenly thought of his first incarnation’s heart devil, who’d once said that if he went to the Void, the so-called Demon Sovereigns wouldn’t even be worthy of carrying his shoes...
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu smiled, but his eyes narrowed slightly. “So long as you live on, you’ll get the chance sooner or later.”
Su Yi turned and left without another word. He had no interest in snuffing out the old man’s clone.
His departure was so abrupt that Demon Sovereign Zi Yu was stunned. He would never have guessed that Su Yi would turn and leave without so much as saying goodbye.
Then, he laughed. “Please wait, Fellow Daoist. This old man still has something to discuss with you.”
Su Yi stopped, but didn’t turn his head. “You’d best not waste my time. If you do, I wouldn’t mind refining this clone of yours to ash.”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu disregarded the disrespect, then said solemnly, “This old man is willing to swear on his Dao Heart that if you give me Her Highness Xin Cheng of the Profound Blood Demons, I’ll cease to consider you my enemy!”
Her Highness Xin Cheng? Su Yi instantly understood. He’s after Innocence!
“You want her progenitor bloodline?” asked Su Yi.
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu was obviously surprised. “Demon Sovereign Xuan Shang of the Profound Blood Demons is my dear friend, and Her Highness Xin Cheng is his descendant. If...”
Before he could finish, Su Yi asked, “Is this ‘Demon Sovereign Xuan Shang’ person in the River of Destiny now too?”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu shook his head. “He isn’t.”
Su Yi waved. “Then have him come find me himself.”
With that, he walked off.
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu frowned, but in the end, he made no further attempts to stop Su Yi from leaving. He sighed to himself. It’s a pity that those Destiny Demons were so weak, and that the Book of Destiny is their bane. I couldn’t use them to gauge Su Yi’s true strength.
He’d witnessed the entire exchange outside the city gates. As incomparably astonishing as it was, when he calmed down and thought things through, he realized that the key to Su Yi’s easy victory wasn’t his strength, but rather the taboo power of the Book of Destiny. It completely countered his enemies!
That aside, the true Demon Sovereign-level experts of the Negative Karma Destiny Demons had yet to fight.
Forget it. There’s no rush. A wise man considers the long term. One of these days, Su Yi will bear witness to the Celestial Demons’ power firsthand!
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu turned and was just about to walk off when a tall, upright, blue-robed figure appeared out of nowhere. He had no presence whatsoever.
This was none other than Su Yi.
“You...” Demon Sovereign Zi Yu was flabbergasted. He would never have guessed that Su Yi would leave, only to come right back.
“I thought long and hard about it, and I still feel uneasy,” said Su Yi. “Yes, you’re just a clone, but why does that mean I can’t be bothered to kill you? That isn’t like me.”
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu’s eyes widened. “I’m a clone, that’s all. Is it worth it? Besides, I really just came here to meet with you, not to become your enemy, so...”
But before he’d finished, Su Yi attacked with a light, airy punch.
He was like an unruly barbarian of the mundane world, attacking without word or warning. He had no interest in listening to his enemy’s nonsense.
No one could have said that Demon Sovereign Zi Yu didn’t react quickly. He immediately moved further away, blurring into a beam of illusory light and shooting into the distance.
But he’d only just shot forth when he quietly realized this wouldn’t go well for him. The surrounding space was completely enveloped in invisible, terrifying sword force. It sealed the area off completely.
When he tried to escape, he slammed into an invisible wall, then slowed.
It was then that Su Yi’s fist came crashing down.
Demon Sovereign Zi Yu saw that there was no time to dodge, so he gnashed his teeth and clashed with Su Yi head-on.
He was just a clone condensed out of soul power, but he was nonetheless strong enough to clash with a Heavenly Sovereign. He refused to believe he couldn’t block a mere punch of Su Yi’s!
Boom!
A moment later, Demon Sovereign Zi Yu froze, eyes widening.
Su Yi’s punch blasted through his defenses as if they were made of rotten wood, leaving a massive crater in his chest.
That incomparably tyrannical power left a long, narrow rift in the air. It extended all the way into the distance.
Is this... really the power of an Immeasurable Realm sword cultivator? Don’t tell me that bastard Threelives lied to me... Demon Sovereign Zi Yu was flabbergasted, but he’d only just thought this when his clone shattered into pieces.
Su Yi waved his sleeve through the air. A streak of misty light whooshed forth and tried to collect the pieces, but it was useless. Strangely, the fragments vanished into the air. It was impossible to gather them.
If I’d known, I’d have woken Innocence up and had her handle this. Who knows? She might well have gotten a good meal out of it, thought Su Yi.
But when he reminded himself that she was at a critical juncture of her transformation, Su Yi couldn’t bring himself to lament any further.
He then stood alone outside the Spirit Treasure Celestial City, pondered for a while, then reached a decision.
He was going back to the Abyss of Endless Tribulations.
