Chapter 2790 - We Were Bound to Meet Again

Chapter 2790 – We Were Bound to Meet Again

The Falling Star Stone in front of him was craggy and shaped like a sleeping tiger.

Su Yi didn’t rush to open it. Instead, he calmed his heart and examined it to see if he could sense any of its mysteries. Against his expectations, a mysterious power of the Grand Dao blocked his divine sense almost as soon as it entered.

No wonder the Falling Star Stones that have made it out of the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone over the years are seen as priceless treasures. No wonder unscrupulous merchants sell them off for astronomical prices, thought Su Yi.

Falling Star Stones could contain all manner of treasures, but they were also sometimes totally empty. Some looked mystical but contained nothing at all. However, they were always useful for gambling, so there was no need to fear failing to sell a stone off.

Over the years, those cultivators who explored the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone tended to store a portion of the Falling Star Stones they acquired to sell in the outside world. They could always earn a ludicrous profit.

But Su Yi had little interest in selling them off.

He raised his hand, and the stone split. A medicinal herb shaped like wild grass appeared.

It was an unassuming blade of grass, but its blades were pristine and beaded with golden dew. The dewdrops were each only the size of a grain of rice, but they were extraordinarily mystical. When Su Yi examined them with his divine sense, he saw that each contained a boundless river of stars!

Moreover, there were nine such golden dewdrops in total.

“Goldenwind Jade Dew!” This time, Fu Lingyun was the first to exclaim. She was obviously excited. “This is an elixir of the Grand Dao. Ancient Daoist texts describe it as a substance of supreme purity. Patriarch Bu Meng says that when a stalk of Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass appears in the Five Great Continents, even Heavenly Sovereign-level factions will compete over it!”

“So, that’s what it is!” Mo Lanhe looked stunned. “I remember that once, long ago, someone found a stalk of Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass in a Falling Star Stone and brought it back to the Five Great Continents. Divine Reverence Pavilion personally convened an auction in response, with the Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass as its grand finale. It went for an astronomical one hundred thousand pieces of Eternal Essence Gold!

“Divine Reverence Pavilion commented that ‘When golden dew meets grass like jade, all other encounters, no matter how many, fade.’ Its most wondrous application isn’t its ability to boost the cultivation, but rather, that it can neutralize heart devils and negative karma!

“Picture this: a senior member of a sect suffered a Karmic Tribulation, leaving them on the verge of destruction, but a single stalk of Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass could save their life! Of course, top sects would pay an astronomical price!”

Su Yi examined the grass, then immediately decided to plant it in the Toad Palace Pearl. He might well be able to raise a whole garden of Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass in the future!

“You’re quite lucky, Daoist Brother Li,” said Fu Lingyun, her eyes sparkling. “You got Spirit Luan Golden Iron on your first try, and even more precious Goldenwind Jade Dew Grass on your second!”

This was an absolutely huge stroke of good fortune. Mo Lanhe couldn’t deny that, either. Even if they acquire nothing else here, they’ll have benefitted considerably from this expedition!

After all, over the years, the good fortune of the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone had all but been picked clean. Thus, over the past one hundred thousand years, many of those who entered the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone left empty-handed.

The particularly unlucky even died here.

Yet they’d run into dozens of Falling Star Stones within half a day of their arrival, and the first few they’d opened contained priceless treasures!

How could Mo Lanhe not be rueful?

“You try,” Su Yi said with a smile and a beckoning wave.

Fu Lingyun was all too eager to experience the pleasures of “betting on jades” for herself. She walked right over and cut upon the next stone, revealing a fragment of treasure.

It was a piece of a bronze spear, its tip covered in blood. It looked perfectly ordinary.

Fu Lingyun was stunned. She couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.

The treasure fragment was ordinary. It wasn’t rare, and it certainly wasn’t precious. This was because most such treasure fragments had lost their spirituality and were effectively just scrap metal. Some could, at most, be useful for refining other treasures, but most of the time, these fragments were just thrown away, as they weren’t good for anything.

“Let me have a look,” said Mo Lanhe. He walked over, examined the spear fragment, and tried circulating his cultivation base through it.

But in the end, he couldn’t help but shake his head. He returned the fragment to Fu Yinglun and said, “There’s nothing particularly wondrous about it, but it’s still an antique. Adding the trinket to your collection isn’t bad either.”

He was putting it politely, but he was effectively telling her that it was garbage.

Fu Lingyun wasn’t that upset, but the thought that she’d wasted a Falling Star Stone she could have at least sold was hard to bear.

She passed the spear fragment to Su Yi, lowered her head, and said sheepishly, “Daoist Brother Li, it seems my luck is poor. You’d best open the next one.”

Su Yi laughed. “There are still several dozen left. It’s fine even if most of them are empty.”

Good fortune was rife with variables. Falling Star Stones were used for gambling in part because the majority didn’t contain precious treasures.

Su Yi calmly accepted this reality.

He was just about to toss the spear fragment when a voice rang out. “Don’t even think of throwing that away! Are you blind? That’s obviously a hunk of Star Transformation Iron! It might just be a fragment, but you can use it to refine top-notch Heavenly Monarch-level weapons!”

The speaker was none other than Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep. She sounded angry, too.

She’d always had a bad temper, haughty and easily irritated. Su Yi had experienced this firsthand back in the God Domain.

Before Su Yi could ask any questions, Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep continued to berate him. “You don’t even recognize something like that? What kind of cultivator are you?

“If not for me, you’d have thrown away an enormous stroke of good fortune! Heavenly Monarchs are always looking for Star Transformation Iron, yet it’s seldom available for purchase, and here you are, trying to throw some away!? Are you trying to anger me to death?!”

She was pelting him with insults, but Su Yi couldn’t help but smile. Star Transformation Iron! So, this wasn’t scrap metal after all. It seems Fu Lingyun’s luck isn’t poor at all. On the contrary, it’s quite extraordinary!

“You’re laughing!?” sputtered Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep, clearly agitated.

But Su Yi’s response made her clamp her jaw shut. “I’m only in the Unfettered Realm, you know.”

What could Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep say to that? Could she still chastise him?

Su Yi added, “If you like the Star Transformation Iron, you can hold onto it.”

After a moment’s silence, she said, “I’ll forgive your ignorance in light of your lowly cultivation base!”

Su Yi glanced at the nearby Fu Lingyun and Mo Lanhe instead of responding.

“Might I open one of the Falling Star Stones, too?” asked Mo Lanhe. “No matter what’s inside, I don’t want it. I just… want to experience the thrill of it for myself.”

The Mountain Lord of Snowy Pine Peak was obviously ill at ease, but it was also obvious that he was tempted.

“Go right ahead,” Su Yi said casually.

Mo Lanhe felt a massive weight lift from his shoulders, and he inwardly sighed in relief.

He then carefully selected a Falling Star Stone and opened it, only to discover that it was completely empty.

After all the effort he’d put into selecting it, the failure filled him with embarrassment, and he stood there in a daze.

Fu Lingyun hurriedly tried to comfort him. “Don’t be upset, senior! Daoist Brother Li said it earlier, right? It’s fine even if most of them are empty.”

Su Yi didn’t know whether or not to laugh or cry.

Mo Lanhe scratched his head awkwardly, then said with self-deprecation, “My luck is too poor. I wasted a precious Falling Star Stone.”

But Su Yi said, “Go ahead and try another one.”

Mo Lanhe hesitated, then chose another, only to discover that it was empty too. His face flushed red, and he was overcome with shame. Two empties in a row… my luck is just terrible!

Even Fu Lingyun didn’t know how to comfort him.

But Su Yi laughed. “Keep going until you find a treasure.”

Mo Lanhe was stunned; he hadn’t anticipated that Li Muchen would be so generous. The thought of how he’d disregarded Li Muchen before suddenly filled his heart with shame.

“No, that’s enough.” Mo Lanhe shook his head. He’s a junior, yet he has such breadth of spirit. I can’t make a nuisance of myself any further!

Su Yi made no further attempts to persuade him. He went on to open one Falling Star Stone after another. As if to prove what he’d said earlier, most was empty. Su Yi couldn’t help but grumble over his “powers of prophecy.”

It seemed his inauspicious tongue had soured his earlier good luck. Still, he did acquire quite a few treasures, too: divine medicines and materials, source energies of the Grand Dao, and various treasure fragments. All were seldom seen in the outside world. The most striking of these was a potion of Grand Dao Source Energy connected to the Wood Luminary of the Laws of the Nine Luminaries!

Alas, it wasn’t the complete Laws of the Wood Luminary.

The Laws of the Nine Luminaries were supremely powerful Laws connected to destiny itself. They were like the rulers of the stars, the source of celestial phenomena. They were composed of nine subsidiary sets of Laws, and the Laws of the Wood Luminary were one of them.

These nine Laws of the Grand Dao were further subdivided into numerous powers of the Grand Dao connected to the stars.

The source energy Su Yi acquired was one of the many Laws derived from the Laws of the Wood Luminary. What made it special was that it was close to the true Laws of the Wood Luminary!

Su Yi pondered briefly, then gave the source energy, called Star Cloak, to Fu Lingyun. He instructed her to give it to Bu Meng.

Su Yi didn’t need it for himself, but Light Beam Sword Pavilion definitely needed it. He’d just consider it repaying some of what Bu Meng had done for him.

Now, only eight Falling Star Stones remained.

Su Yi was about to keep opening them when he suddenly sensed something and gazed into the distance.

Two figures were headed their way from beneath the murky, overcast skies. These were none other than Liu Tianchen of the Southern Darkness Sword Court, as well as his Dao Protector, a hale, spirited old man with blue robes and youthful features. His name was Wei Yun, and he was a Heavenly Monarch.

When Liu Tianchen spotted Su Yi in the distance, he couldn’t help but laugh. “We were indeed bound to meet again, Fellow Daoist Li!”

However, his Dao Protector’s gaze instantly landed on the remaining eight enormous Falling Star Stones. He couldn’t help but gasp, his gaze suddenly heated.
