Chapter 2789 - A Blessing in Disguise
Chapter 2789 – A Blessing in Disguise
Crunch!
Something audibly cracked. The fist-sized Falling Star Stone shattered, and clear, resplendent, golden starlight surged forth.
It was as sharp as a sword’s edge, stinging the eyes. Fu Lingyun was close at hand, and she instinctively looked away. She felt prickling pain all over her skin.
“That’s got to be a Metal Luminary Stone!” she exclaimed.
Su Yi inclined his head. “It is indeed.”
Fragments of rock scattered, and in the end, all that remained was a thumb-sized piece of rock. It was dazzlingly bright, and its surface flowed with sharp, misty, golden light. Pure power of the Grand Dao permeated the surrounding area.
Mo Lanhe couldn’t help but feel stunned. This Li Muchen kid’s luck is quite something.
When they avoided the earlier Star Annihilation Gales, the winds scattered numerous fragments of rock. One of them flew toward Su Yi. He plucked it from midair before it could hit him, only to discover that it was a Falling Star Stone.
Even more surprising, the Falling Star Stone contained a Metal Luminary Stone!
Throughout the ages, countless cultivators had explored the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone. Past explorers had thoroughly researched its layout, complete with its treasures and good fortune.
For instance, Metal Luminary Stones contained the power of the Grand Dao related to the Laws of the Metal Luminary.
However, the stone’s flaws were readily apparent. Falling Star Stones contained only a tiny amount of condensed power of the Grand Dao, so the Laws therein were almost always incomplete. Even if you contemplated it during your cultivation, you’d at best master a portion of the Laws of the Metal Luminary.
Even so, a Metal Luminary Stone was a priceless treasure. If you gave it to an Undying Realm Master God, it’d be enough to let them condense an Eternal Source, prove their Dao, and enter Eternity! Simply put, the Metal Luminary Stone Su Yi held represented a Master God’s opportunity to achieve Eternity!
Even in the top thirteen orthodoxies of the Literati Continent, Eternals were few in number. A chance to gain another would have been cause for celebration in any orthodoxy.
“You take it,” said Su Yi, passing it to Fu Lingyun.
Fu Lingyun froze, then shook her head. “I’ve already achieved Eternity. I don’t need it.”
“Then use it to temper your sword,” said Su Yi.
Metal Luminary Stones could be used to contemplate the Grand Dao or to temper one’s weapons.
Fu Lingyun scratched her head, seemingly a bit embarrassed, but also unsure how best to refuse. After a while, she said, “Daoist Brother Li, do you… like me?”
Su Yi didn’t know what to say.
Mo Lanhe barely resisted the urge to laugh. He’d long since realized that outside of combat, Fu Lingyun was ditzy, a bit silly, and prone to daydreaming. There was no telling what she was thinking.
Still, Mo Lanhe wouldn’t have guessed she’d jump to such conclusions over a Metal Luminary Stone.
“Senior Bu Meng and I share a lifelong bond. I agreed to look after you, so I naturally cannot go back on my word,” laughed Su Yi. “And don’t forget that Senior Bu Meng told you to follow my orders. That means that if I give you something, you should take it!”
Fu Lingyun listened in a bit of a daze, then nodded. “So that’s it! Alright, I’ll just have to listen to you.”
She carefully put it away, then smiled. There was no disguising her delight.
Mo Lanhe opened his mouth to speak, then thought better of it. He was quite surprised that Li Muchen would give something so precious away so casually.
Then, he sighed. I looked at Li Muchen from a position of lofty superiority. It seems my understanding of him really was overly simplistic.
Suddenly, his expression shifted.
Bang!!!
The formation manifested of the massive bronze mirror shook violently as a millstone-sized Falling Star Stone slammed into it.
“What an enormous Falling Star Stone!” exclaimed Fu Lingyun.
Su Yi silently rose, then gazed into the Star Annihilation Gales blotting out the sun. They were rumbling and booming overhead with terrifying volume and momentum. Then, he saw the winds send yet another enormous Falling Star Stone hurtling toward them.
Mo Lanhe dared not be negligent. He poured his strength into the mirror and defended with all his might. Even so, the bronze mirror swayed on impact. Mo Lanhe’s blood and qi churned.
Su Yi’s eyes narrowed.
Mo Lanhe was a Heavenly Monarch, an expert of the fifth Realm of Eternity! Yet this natural disaster was obviously affecting him.
“It looks like I’ve implicated you two,” said Mo Lanhe, looking a bit ashamed.
Dao Protectors lacked Nine Luminaries Medallions, so it was easy for them to provoke a violent backlash from the battlefield’s Laws.
There was no doubt about it. Mo Lanhe believed that this disaster was caused by his presence.
Su Yi examined the Star Annihilation Gales, then shook his head. “Don’t jump to conclusions. This most likely has nothing to do with you.”
Every time the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone opened, many Dao Protectors accompanied the participants. Over the years, explorers had accumulated and passed on a wealth of information regarding how best to avoid a backlash from the Laws.
Mo Lanhe had thus used a secret art to hide his presence immediately upon entering. Unless he used his full strength, there was almost no way that the Laws would target him.
Thus, there was almost no way that he’d invited this disaster.
“No matter what, I’ll do everything in my power to ensure your safety,” Mo Lanhe said gravely. His expression was utterly determined.
More and more Falling Star Stones came crashing down.
Although Mo Lanhe’s bronze mirror blocked them all, Su Yi keenly picked up a few hints.
It seemed that something was directing the massive Falling Star Stones. Although the Star Annihilation Gales had swept them into the air, none fell anywhere else. They rained down on Su Yi and his companions exclusively.
It really did seem like someone was targeting them.
Boom!
Yet another massive impact rang out. Blood trickled from the corners of Mo Lanhe’s lips. He didn’t dare to use his full strength for fear of provoking a backlash. That limited his strength, leading to him repeatedly taking injuries as he fended off the Falling Star Stones.
None were serious, but Fu Lingyun was nonetheless beside herself with worry. “Daoist Brother Li, what should we do?”
“Don’t worry,” said Su Yi. “Calm will follow this storm.”
Indeed, an hour later, the Star Annihilation Winds died down and faded away.
Mo Lanhe seemed to have reached the limit of his endurance. He plopped onto the ground, breathing in ragged gasps, his face noticeably paler and the lapels of his clothing stained red. But there was no disguising the relief on his face. They’d overcome this disaster!
“See that? It seems that this was a blessing in disguise. The greater the danger, the greater the good fortune,” said Su Yi, pointing into the distance.
The ground was covered in countless rocks and boulders. Of them, the most eye-catching were the ten enormous Falling Star Stones!
Falling Star Stones were fragments of stars that broke off and fell from the sky. They all represented good fortune!
But there was no telling what was hidden inside a given Falling Star Stone. They might contain source energies of the Grand Dao or other strange things, like fragmented weapons, condensed blood and souls, or all manner of divine materials.
Sometimes, there were even lifeforms sealed inside!
Over the years, people had discovered over a thousand types of treasure in Falling Star Stones. They were extremely diverse, too.
Once, long ago, someone had even found a naturally formed Dao Womb!
The Dao Womb contained a fetus, a natural-born incarnation of the Star Daos. An expert of Limitless Palace acquired the fetus, and within just one thousand short years, it grew, proved its Dao, and achieved Eternity. It later went on to become an unparalleled figure.
Even now, this was a popular tale.
Fu Lingyun’s eyes lit up. “It’s true!”
Mo Lanhe was stunned. Dozens of Falling Star Stones, including several enormous ones! No, those aren’t just stones. Those represent dozens of types of unknown good fortune!
His heart filled with excitement. Don’t tell me we just got ridiculously lucky? If not, how could we have run into such a grand stroke of good fortune immediately upon entering the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone?
Over the years, the vast majority of the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone’s good fortune had been found and claimed—especially the Falling Star Stones. All cultivators coveted them, so by now, they’d practically picked the place clean.
Who could have imagined that the Star Annihilation Gales would drop a whole pile of them right into their laps? It was like a tidal wave throwing big, plump, juicy fish onto the shore for anyone to just go and pick up!
Su Yi, meanwhile, had already walked over to one of the Falling Star Stones. He raised his hand and slashed it open with an audible crack!
A bundle of dazzling, red Dao Light floated into the air.
It was a fiery red piece of iron ore. It blazed as if it were on fire, and it was crystalline and beautiful, like a piece of jade. Its surface was covered in naturally formed Flame Dao Markings, and it was indistinct, but it contained the illusory figure of a Golden Luan beating its wings and soaring through the blue skies.
Before Su Yi could say anything, Mo Lanhe shot to his feet and exclaimed, “Don’t tell me that’s Spirit Luan Golden Iron!?”
This was a treasure seldom seen in the outside world. Divine Reverence Pavilion had proclaimed it one of the greatest ores for forging natal swords! It contained supreme Yin essence and the Golden Luan’s power to melt the heavens!
Even a fingernail-sized chunk could boost a sword’s level, but this piece was the size of an adult’s fist. It was absolutely priceless!
The first Falling Star Stone’s treasure was already rare and precious, enough to make Mo Lanhe’s heart quiver with excitement despite his lofty Heavenly Fate Realm cultivation base.
He couldn’t even imagine how much treasure the remaining several dozen Falling Star Stones contained!
“That’s somewhat interesting,” said Su Yi, examining the blazing, fiery Spirit Luan Golden Iron. He, too, felt eagerness rise in his heart.
Opening Falling Star Stones was like gambling on uncut jade. There was no telling what you’d find until you opened a stone. No, it was more than just “somewhat interesting.” It was delightful!
Su Yi tossed the Spirit Luan Golden Iron to Fu Lingyun. “Take this for now. We can divide the treasures later.”
With that, he chose yet another piece of Falling Star Stone.
