Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 126: Follow Me...

"What? Accident? How?" Daniela asked immediately as her voice trembled.

Sylvia didn’t say anything. She continued looking at Amelia.

Her eyes stayed fixed on the hospital bed.

The pale face that usually carried so much life looked completely different under the cold white hospital light. Amelia’s eyes were closed, her face almost motionless except for the slight movement of her breathing. The oxygen tube rested beneath her nose, and the steady sound of the monitor beside her filled the room.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Sylvia’s fingers tightened around Amelia’s hand.

She could still feel the warmth of her skin, even though it was colder than usual.

Her throat felt tight. She wanted to explain everything.

She wanted to tell Daniela exactly what had happened, but she didn’t know anything herself.

All she knew was that Amelia had been involved in an accident.

All she knew was that her Amelia was lying in front of her.

"We’re coming right now," Daniela said quietly. "What’s the hospital?"

"Brighton Memorial Hospital," Sylvia said calmly.

She had to force herself to speak steadily because she knew that if she allowed herself to cry again, she might not be able to stop.

"Okay, we’re coming over," Daniela said and ended the call.

Sylvia slowly lowered the phone. For a moment, she simply stared at the dark screen.

Her reflection was faintly visible on it. Her eyes were red and her cheeks were wet.

She looked nothing like herself.

She slipped the phone into her hand and turned her attention back to Amelia.

"You’re going to be okay," Sylvia whispered.

Amelia didn’t answer.

Sylvia swallowed hard and gently brushed a loose strand of hair away from Amelia’s forehead.

"You’re going to be okay, Minnie."

She said it again as though repeating the words could somehow make them true.

Immediately, Sylvia’s phone rang again.

The sudden sound made her flinch. She looked at the screen.

Mr. Winston.

Her father’s name was displayed clearly.

Sylvia wiped the remaining tears from her cheek before swiping to answer.

"Hello, Dad," Sylvia said immediately.

"Where are you now?" Mr. Winston asked calmly. "Matt couldn’t come because he went to settle some issues with our client."

Sylvia glanced at Dominic for a moment before looking back at Amelia.

"I’m at the hospital, Dad." Sylvia paused before continuing. "Amelia really had an accident."

There was silence on the other end.

Then Sylvia heard her mother crying in the background.

Stella’s sobs were faint, but Sylvia could still hear them clearly through the phone.

Her heart tightened.

"Dad, don’t worry," Sylvia said, trying to sound calm as she reminded Mr. Winston about himself. "I will take care of her. Just take care of yourself since you haven’t recovered yet."

She looked toward the door for a moment before lowering her gaze.

She knew her father would want to come immediately.

He wasn’t strong enough to rush around the city in the middle of the night.

"Okay then, my daughter," Mr. Winston said slowly. "We will come tomorrow early morning."

"Alright, Dad," Sylvia said softly and ended the call.

Sylvia lowered the phone and took a quiet breath.

The room became silent again.

Only the faint hum of the air conditioner and the steady beeping of the machine filled the space.

She looked at Dominic.

He was still sitting beside Amelia, his eyes fixed on her. He hadn’t said much since Sylvia arrived.

He seemed lost in his own thoughts as he watched Amelia sleep.

Sylvia looked down at her, Amelia, for a few seconds before speaking.

"Thank you so much for saving her," Sylvia said. "I really do owe you one."

Dominic finally looked up at her. A small smile appeared on his face.

"You don’t need to owe me anything," he said quietly. "Amelia is a good soul who won’t help her when she’s in danger."

Sylvia looked at him.

There was something sincere in his voice.

He wasn’t saying it because he wanted praise. He wasn’t asking for anything in return.

He simply believed Amelia deserved to be saved.

"Thank you, Mr. Halcyon." Sylvia said with a small smile, and her eyes returned to Amelia.

The sight of her Amelia lying there made the smile disappear almost immediately.

"I will rush home and get some things that she needs."

She looked around the room as if trying to remember everything Amelia might need.

"No need," Dominic said calmly. "I have already told my secretary to get what she needs for her."

Sylvia looked at him. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

"You already did that?"

Dominic nodded. "Yes."

Sylvia looked at Amelia again.

The thought that Dominic had already taken care of something so small but important touched her.

"Thank you very much," Sylvia said.

She turned back toward Amelia’s pale face. Her eyes followed the slow rise and fall of Amelia’s chest.

She wished she could hear her complain. Even an angry complaint would have made her feel better.

The door opened and Cameron walked in.

His footsteps were quiet against the hospital floor as he entered the room.

"The things you asked for are here, Mr. Halcyon," Cameron said as he walked towards them.

He carried a paper bag in one hand.

Dominic looked at Cameron before pointing at Sylvia.

"Give it to her."

Cameron nodded. He walked over to Sylvia and held the paper bag out to her.

Sylvia reached for it with both hands.

"Thank you, sir," Sylvia said as she took the bag from him.

The paper made a soft crinkling sound beneath her fingers.

Cameron smiled.

"Just call me Cameron. No need for formalities."

Sylvia stared at him for a moment.

She wasn’t used to being so informal with people she had only just met, especially someone who worked closely with Dominic.

Still, she nodded.

"Okay then, Cameron."

Cameron smiled and nodded.

Sylvia looked down at the bag in her hands.

She could feel the weight of the things inside.

Amelia was going to need those things when she woke up.

She had to wake up.

She had to.

A sound suddenly came from the door.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Everyone turned toward it.

Dominic looked up.

"Come in," Dominic said.

The door opened immediately. Sylvia stared at the people standing outside in surprise.

Her brows pulled together.

She hadn’t told them the room number. She hadn’t even told them which floor they were on.

How had they found them so quickly?

"How do you know we’re in this room?" Sylvia asked.

She looked between them, still holding the paper bag against her side.

Camila didn’t answer.

The moment she saw Amelia lying on the hospital bed, she immediately ran toward her.

She didn’t even acknowledge Dominic. Her shoes struck the floor as she hurried across the room.

Dominic’s eyes followed her. He remained silent.

Camila reached the bed and stopped beside Amelia.

Her expression changed the moment she saw her.

The confidence she normally carried seemed to disappear for a moment.

Her eyes moved slowly over Amelia’s face.

Camila’s lips pressed together. She looked as though she was trying very hard to control her emotions.

"We have our ways," Daniela answered instead as she walked towards the bed. "This hospital also belongs to the Everton Group."

Daniela’s voice was calm, but worry was obvious in her eyes.

Sylvia looked at her and nodded.

Camila sat beside Amelia’s bed. She stared at Amelia for several seconds without saying anything.

Then she reached out and gently touched her hand.

Her fingers were careful, like she was almost afraid.

She looked at Amelia’s face again, and then she turned to Sylvia.

"What exactly did you tell Amelia when she came looking for you?" Camila asked immediately.

Sylvia’s grip tightened on the bag she was holding. Her fingers pressed into the paper.

She looked at Camila.

There was something about the woman’s expression that made Sylvia nervous.

Not because Camila was shouting.

She wasn’t.

Her voice was actually calm, but they seemed to make people answer her immediately.

"First of all, what time did you meet her?" Camila asked, still staring at Sylvia.

Sylvia swallowed hard. She tried to keep her gaze on Camila.

Camila was actually scary when she was angry. But right now, she wasn’t angry.

At least, she didn’t look angry.

Still, Sylvia could feel her authoritative aura filling the room.

It was the kind of presence that made people naturally become careful with their words.

"I saw her in the evening," Sylvia answered slowly. She lowered her eyes before looking back at Camila.

Camila didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, she turned to look at Amelia, and her expression softened.

She reached out and touched Amelia’s head gently. Her fingers brushed carefully over Amelia’s hair, avoiding the bandage.

"Don’t tell me you waited for her under the scorching sun without eating, stupid girl," Camila said slowly as her voice trembled.

Camila could almost imagine Amelia standing somewhere under the hot sun, waiting for someone she loved while ignoring her own health.

Camila shook her head.

She stared at Sylvia for a moment, and then she looked down at Amelia again.

Her eyes became slightly red. She gently took Amelia’s hand and placed it back on the bed.

Her movements were careful and almost tender.

She didn’t want to disturb her.

Camila slowly stood up. She remained beside the bed for some seconds and then finally turned toward Dominic.

She stared at him, and Dominic looked back at her.

Cameron stood slightly behind Dominic, watching the two of them.

Camila’s expression remained serious, and then she spoke.

"Thank you." Camila muttered slowly.

Dominic’s eyes widened.

He hadn’t expected those words.

Not from her.

He never imagined the soulless heir of the Everton Group would actually say thank you so easily.

Camila had earned the nickname "soulless" for a reason.

She was known for not allowing emotions to interfere with business.

If someone made a mistake, she didn’t care how convincing their excuse sounded.

She found the fault and pointed it out immediately.

And if the mistake was serious enough, she could fire the person immediately.

No hesitation and no second chances.

That was how she became known as the "soulless" heir.

But the people who knew Camila outside the company knew something completely different.

She was actually a sweet girl.

At school, she could laugh freely, she could tease her friends, and she could care deeply about the people she loved.

The cold woman people saw inside the company was not the whole of who she was.

Right now, that softer side of her was showing.

She looked at Amelia again. Her eyes stayed on her for some seconds before she turned toward Sylvia.

Her gaze moved over Sylvia slowly. From her tear-stained face to the bag she was holding and then back to her eyes.

"Follow me," Camila said.

She turned around and started walking toward the door.

Sylvia stared at her. She didn’t understand.

"Follow me," Camila said again.

Before Sylvia could say anything else, Daniela stopped Camila.

"Hey, Mila, what are you trying to do?"
