Chapter 669 - 669: Battle Against Viernes (III)

Viernes's enormous weight combined with the speed of his fall produced a terrifying shockwave.

Even though he had crashed into the Deltara Mountains, the impact was powerful enough to reach all the way back to the battlefield around Gold Owl, where Kagura, Lucy, and the others were still fighting.

Raizel briefly used Archive Magic to check on Ultear and the others below before turning toward the Deltara Mountains.

[Selene and I will keep an eye on their battles. Focus on Viernes and leave the rest to us.]

Irene's telepathic message entered his mind.

Badly wounded, Viernes roared in fury. Golden elemental Magic gathered around his body, repairing his injuries while simultaneously coating him in a hardened metallic shell.

The Gold Dragon God threw back his head with another roar and launched himself toward Raizel.

Omnimon X dissolved into white light.

A split second later, a white shockwave exploded through the air as Raizel leveled the Grey Sword in front of himself and shot straight toward Viernes.

Man and dragon collided.

They flashed past one another and came to a stop with their backs facing each other.

Splurt!

Blood sprayed from Viernes's shoulder.

A deep sword wound had been carved through the golden armor, exposing bone beneath.

Rumble—!

The earth-shaking battle continued.

Viernes lifted his head high as Gold-attribute Magic shimmered brilliantly around him.

He abandoned anything elaborate and simply unleashed a Gold Dragon's Roar, the torrent of golden power blasting apart the clouds in its path.

The Grey Sword extended once more.

[Charging Grey Sword.]

A crescent-shaped blade of energy swept forward and collided head-on with Viernes's roar.

The resulting shockwave cracked the cliffs of the Deltara Mountains and pulverized nearby trees.

With another explosive burst of air, Omnimon X accelerated again and shot toward Viernes in the sky.

The fighting around Gold Owl was just as fierce.

The constant clash of blades rang through the battlefield as Kagura exchanged sword strikes with Kotetsu.

Lucy had switched into the Aries Star Dress, using soft masses of wool to counter Gennai's smoke while Wendy, already in Dragon Force, harassed him from every direction with her superior speed.

Erza's fight against the female alchemist Roy had become a contest between magical swords and overwhelming firepower.

Ultear and God Serena, meanwhile, looked more like two long-range Mages trying to blast each other off the battlefield.

Ultear periodically vanished into spatial rifts, and because Serena had no Spatial Magic of his own, there was little he could do whenever she repositioned beyond his reach.

Mira's battle with Brand, the Strongest Shield, was nearly over.

Brand was not particularly fast to begin with, while Wendy's enchantment had further increased Mira's speed.

Mira repeatedly circled behind him and attacked his back, refusing to engage his strongest defenses head-on.

No matter how hard Brand's body became, even he could not endure that kind of relentless punishment forever.

By now, his back was covered in deep wounds.

High above the battlefield, a golden figure faced an oncoming blue torrent and roared defiantly.

The Garuru Cannon struck Viernes head-on.

Blue light flooded the clouds, bright enough to remain clearly visible even far beyond the battlefield.

White smoke poured from Viernes's body as the enormous dragon lost control and fell from the sky like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

By then, the sun had already begun sinking toward the horizon.

Mira, having finally defeated Brand, looked upward. Viernes's falling silhouette was reflected in her eyes.

She made no attempt to join Raizel's battle, nor did she immediately go help anyone else.

Her fight with Brand had remained at high speed almost from beginning to end, consuming a considerable amount of Magic Power.

She needed some time to recover.

"I wonder how things are going..." she murmured, staring toward the distant sky where Raizel was fighting.

Their battle had been going on for quite some time, and Raizel still had not returned.

It was difficult not to worry.

Raizel slowly descended through the air and looked down at Viernes lying in the enormous crater below.

His gaze was calm and indifferent.

Then Viernes began struggling back into the air.

Raizel's eyes sharpened.

[Omega Roar!]

Brilliant white light engulfed Viernes.

The resulting explosion blossomed across the sky like an enormous display of fireworks.

Viernes crashed down again and lay weakly inside another crater created by his own massive body.

Yet even now, the Gold Dragon God refused to admit defeat.

"Transmute... History!"

Viernes used History Transmutation on himself.

For someone in his current condition, the technique came at an enormous cost.

Even if he somehow won afterward, there was a very real possibility that the strain alone would kill him.

His golden eyes opened.

They reflected the white figure hovering above him.

Then Viernes's strength surged back to its peak.

The Gold Dragon God transformed into a streak of golden light and shot toward Raizel.

Omnimon X became white light in response.

Gold and white tore across the sky, ripping open the air as they collided, passed each other, curved around, and crashed together again.

Raizel had not expected that.

"So you have a last-ditch restoration technique too?"

He sounded more mildly inconvenienced than alarmed.

"Fine. It just means this will take a little longer."

Lightning crawled across the sky as though the heavens themselves were splitting apart.

Viernes's roar shook the mountains.

This time, the Gold Dragon's Roar was far more powerful than before, blasting through the clouds as it surged toward Raizel.

Omnimon X flickered.

A moment later, he appeared hundreds of meters away and much higher in the sky, looking down at Viernes from above.

Their battle continued to paint the evening sky with dazzling flashes, almost like fireworks illuminating the twilight.

Throughout Filan City, countless residents had stopped to watch.

The light from the distant battle reflected across their faces.

"So beautiful..."

Even knowing that they were witnessing a battle between a human and one of the Five Dragon Gods, many of them could not help becoming entranced by the spectacle.

And that was not the only thing happening north of the city.

Eight enormous elemental dragons would occasionally appear and clash with another set of elemental dragons, while elsewhere a breathtaking sword flash would suddenly cut across the battlefield.

"Everyone, stop standing around watching!" Happy shouted as he flew back and forth.

"What matters more, the show or your lives?!" Carla snapped.

The two Exceeds kept desperately trying to convince the spectators to move farther away.

"The show!"

"..."

Viernes inhaled deeply and thrust out his chest.

His golden eyes locked onto Raizel.

Another Gold Dragon's Roar erupted toward Omnimon X.

An orange Brave Shield unfolded from Raizel's shoulder and rapidly expanded until it completely covered his body.

The roar pushed him backward several hundred meters through the sky, but even then, it failed to break through the Brave Shield.

Raizel's eyes narrowed.

The Grey Sword extended.

He drew an equilateral triangle through the air with its tip, leaving three brilliant lines of blue Magic Power behind.

Once the triangle was complete, the Grey Sword retracted, and Raizel placed the Greymon head on his left arm and the Garurumon head on his right into two sides of the glowing formation.

[Omega Roar!]

A tremendous blue torrent erupted forward, bright enough to illuminate the darkening sky.

Viernes's eyes widened in disbelief.

His entire body trembled.

For a brief instant, genuine fear seized the Gold Dragon God.

But he was still one of the Five Dragon Gods.

He forced himself to react and gathered as much Gold-elemental power as he could, transmuting a massive metal shield directly in front of himself.

BOOOOOOM—!

The blue torrent collided with the golden shield.

The resulting flash was so intense that the people watching from Filan City instinctively raised their hands to cover their eyes.

The impact seemed to linger like the endless reverberation of a massive bell.

Then Viernes fell from the sky once again.

His enormous body slammed into the earth with tremendous force.

Rock and debris collapsed over him as a vast cloud of dust rolled across the crater.
