Chapter 303: Vita Bombs
Chapter 303: Vita Bombs
A vita bomb.
It was a weapon of mass destruction. It was considered so dangerous that the dome had limited its use to only the grand families.
It was only to be used against foes that were too much to handle, a weapon only to be used at the last resort.
A vita bomb was made using an energy that reacts to vita. In simple terms, it made vita explode upon contact. The more vita there was, the more devastating the explosion.
Against a genesis stage evolved, one could simply implode like a watermelon. But against a bloom, it was as though a nuclear bomb had gone off.
There was no defense against a vita bomb, even for a bloom. The best one could do was evade, evade, and evade. Nothing else.
Which was why, the instant the beep reached Malakai’s ears, he abandoned everything else and chose survival.
Vita roared through his body, his blood churning in response.
His eyes flashed crimson, and crimson veins ignited across his body like flares. He activated his perception and used Oxyflow to increase his processing speed to the max.
Malakai saw the world around him slow. The guests who had been about to clap now had their hands suspended mid air, moving at a snail’s pace.
Even the knife the Sutrex youth was using to cut through the cake had slowed. The world around him had dulled, but Malakai knew deep down, he had less than a moment left to act.
’The knife has made contact with the bomb.’ His mind worked quickly, analyzing. He glanced around the party.
His main target was at the other side of the courtyard, past the large cake. The bomb.
’We can’t get to him.’ Doing that was begging for death. Which meant, he could only hope that the clan head was perceptive enough to realize the trap and escape.
’We have to escape.’
Malakai glanced around at his people. Karla and Unoa had just burst into the courtyard and were directly behind him, expressions filled with panic. Whiteshade, with his baffled and confused gaze, was also in the process of speaking. Clearly about to demand what was going on.
Nyx was directly beside him. Of all of them, only her intense gaze seemed to meet his.
She was living in his time. No, he felt slow compared to her. Her eyes on him were clear: What are your orders?
Malakai was just about to give them when a thought struck him.
’Laila and Grunde.’
They were supposed to rendezvous here at the party. Malakai hadn’t noticed them during his time at the event, but that didn’t mean they hadn’t arrived while he was speaking to Karla.
He decided to scan the area once more, and thanked his stars that he did.
Grunde’s massive frame barely fit into his butler uniform. It looked like it might tear apart at any moment. It was a mystery how he was able to sneak into the party.
Laila instead blended well, but Malakai still recognized her. She hadn’t changed her face like he and Nyx had.
They both had their eyes focused on the young Sutrex cutting the cake, oblivious to the coming disaster. Malakai mapped out their locations. Then, he finally spoke.
“Laila and Grunde, four and nine o’clock away. Take us to the skies.”
Malakai’s words had barely dropped before Nyx acted.
He felt his blood churn, control slipping away from him. Malakai felt a pull for a brief moment before he found himself high up in the skies.
He ignored the shocked looks from Laila and Grunde hovering meters away from them. Even the intense wind whipping at him couldn’t pull his focus away.
His eyes were locked on one thing, the party below.
Time regained its motion, and the Sutrex youth finished cutting.
The beep finally reached the ears of everyone in the party, especially the bloom. The Sutrex clan head was on his feet before anyone could react.
“Stay back!” he thundered.
The Sutrex youth glanced back at his father, confused. He was about to speak when a white wave suddenly blasted out from the cake, spreading in every direction.
The Sutrex clan head’s eyes almost popped from their sockets the instant he saw that white wave.
’A vita bomb!’ he realized.
He and many other perceptive blooms blasted into the skies, carrying with them anyone close and important enough. But most of the party weren’t so lucky.
The white wave washed over the entire party, and then the mansion. For a moment, there was only silence. The blooms high in the sky could only stare, dumbfounded. They knew what was coming.
It started from the figure closest to the bomb, the celebrant. He was of average height for his obvious teen years. One of the clan head’s most loved children. The youngest.
Regardless, the clan head could only watch as his body suddenly began to swell, before imploding from the inside out, sending blood and gore across the party.
But none of the party members on the ground had the slightest moment to comprehend what was happening. Most of them had already realized what the white wave meant. They knew what was coming.
Their eyes showed only one thing as the vita within them began to react and they started to swell, fear.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
A cacophony of explosions rocked the party, each one more brutal than the last. Blood and gore spraying about was all Malakai could see from the air. It was a brutal sight, but his eyes never left the scene.
Only the blooms, and a few descendants with bloom guard, escaped the wave. But these were the blooms that had been perceptive enough to escape.
Some hadn’t been paying attention. Some had been too drunk to form coherent thoughts. Some had been far too close to the bomb.
These blooms remained on the ground, and they too had been washed by the wave.
As their bodies began to swell, Malakai’s heart pounded in his chest. His gaze trembled. Only one thought came to his mind at that moment.
’Shit.’
Booooooooooooooom!
