Evolution of the Ruined Heir

Chapter 304: The Situation

Chapter 304: The Situation

Booooooooooooooom!

The blooms detonated in a wave of roaring force that blasted upwards, slamming into the people above and sending them hurtling further into the sky.

Malakai struggled to regain his balance. The green dome that enveloped their group had blocked most of the force from reaching them, but without a foothold, they were sent flying.

The dome spun fast as it streaked into the skies. Malakai lost all sense of up and down, left and right. They thrashed inside the dome, sometimes slamming into the surface, sometimes into one another.

Eventually, Nyx got the dome under control, stopping their spiraling momentum.

“Ninth vein! Are you okay?”

Nyx was upon Malakai the instant he landed on the floor of the dome. He shook his head, trying to clear the spinning haze that was his vision.

“I’m fine.”

His heart didn’t stop pounding. He fought through the ache in his body and didn’t even check on the others. There was only one thing on his mind, what had just occurred.

He glanced down, and froze.

A thick haze of brown and ash blanketed everything, but Malakai’s keen senses let him see through most of it.

Below them, was nothing.

There was no party. No mansion. No people.

Even worse, the distant landscape, kilometers away, had been reduced to a desolate wasteland.

“What the hell…” Whiteshade broke the silence that gripped the small dome. By now, everyone had come to their senses. Their eyes were glued to the devastation below.

Laila, Grunde, Karla, Unoa, it didn’t matter. Their eyes all showed the same thing.

Fear.

They could see the destruction, but they knew this was only the beginning. From this blast alone, at least a thousand had died.

Even worse, some of them had been blooms.

Which meant, multiple blooms had just died. Multiple grade four darkness creatures were spawning.

’A grade four…’

From multiple locations, massive pillars of darkness erupted into the sky, each one dwarfing anything Malakai had ever seen in his life.

It looked like apocalyptic lances of darkness had pierced the heavens.

An incalculable number of smaller darkness pillars followed, their collective presence blotting out the moonlight.

Malakai felt it first. The chill.

It dwarfed anything he had ever felt in his life. It didn’t feel like being doused in icy water. No.

It felt like his entire body had turned into an ice statue. He couldn’t move. He could only stare.

He watched, eyes trembling, as the darkness pillars collapsed, and the darkness creatures emerged.

From Malakai and his companions, down to the Sutrex clan head and the others who had escaped, no one moved.

They all watched as an army of darkness creatures formed below, their numbers blotting out the wasteland.

“Ninth vein.”

“…”

“Ninth vein!”

“…”

“Malakai!” Nyx grabbed his shoulder, snapping him out of his trance. He turned to see everyone else looking at him.

“What should we do?” Nyx demanded, her soft voice was gone, replaced with one that was filled with urgency.

Laila and Grunde were silent. Even Karla and Unoa.

Multiple grade fours were spawning what could they possibly do? What could anyone in the city do?

The grade fours would finish forming before anyone realized the problem, and they would ravage the entire city.

The more deaths, the stronger they’d become.

Malakai’s mind was… uncooperative. He tried, he truly did, to comprehend the situation. Why would the Fourth Pulse go so far?

With the blooms dead, and grade fours spawning, the city was teetering on the brink of extinction.

Once they fully formed, it was over. He couldn’t understand.

Would she really be so stupid as to destroy the entire city for a grudge?

“Malakai! Look!”

Nyx’s sharp voice pulled him out of his reverie. She had resorted to calling him by name to ensure he listened. He turned, and saw her pointing toward the distant horizon.

The instant he saw it, his heart nearly stopped.

’Vita veil.’

His mind spun once again. A vita veil was spreading from the horizon. The direction it was heading, it would soon cover the entire wasteland, encasing them, and the army of darkness creatures.

’It takes time for grade fours to form.’

He began piecing things together.

Unlike other darkness creatures, grade fours took time to spawn, and now, during that window, a vita veil was forming?

’They planned for this.’

The vita bombs. The blooms dying. The army of darkness.

The pieces started clicking into place.

And it was when multiple bright lights flashed in the corner of his vision that he finally realized.

A scream tore from one of the blooms.

“Vita Lance!”

Heads snapped to the distant sky.

An incalculable number of pure vita beams was surging toward them. Everyone paled.

It was at that moment that Malakai finally understood the situation.

’It’s the whole clan.’

Their target wasn’t just the Sutrex head. Their goal was the clan.

’They want to annihilate the entire clan.’

The thought had barely echoed when another scream rang out.

“EVADE!”

The blooms manipulated their domes just as the Vita Lances reached them. They narrowly evaded, but it did nothing to stop the beams of destruction.

They plummeted like meteors and landed amidst the darkness army.

Explosions roared to life. They spread outward, tearing through the creatures like divine punishment.

The beams disintegrated the forming creatures on contact, the blast zones expanding like rings of obliteration, carving holes through the horde.

But that wasn’t all. Another wave followed immediately, forcing the group to evade again.

“Take me to the Sutrex head.”

Malakai grabbed Nyx by the shoulder and gave the command. She didn’t even bother to ask why, she instantly obeyed.

She manipulated the dome, taking them close to the green barrier where the Sutrex clan head and many others had gathered. Without waiting, she copied the dome’s density and merged them.

The Sutrex man was about to speak but froze when his eyes landed on Malakai.

His disguise was gone and so was the dye on his hair. There was no one in the west who didn’t know that face.

The Ninth Vein of the Sanguine Clan…

Malakai Von Sanguine.
