Chapter 241: Don’t Tell Me You Believed What He Said?

As he spoke, he frowned at Pauline Shaw’s car.

He was very displeased that Pauline Shaw had left an injured Luna Morgan to face the assailants alone. ’What kind of a caregiver is she?’

"Cousin!" Seeing him, Pauline Shaw was so overjoyed she could have wept. Trembling, she opened the car door, but just as she was about to run over, she stopped dead in her tracks.

’His gaze just now... it was like he was blaming me, wasn’t it?’

Caleb Lowell quickly averted his gaze, his expression frigid. "Speak. Why did you corner two young women?"

In just a minute, he had noticed something was off. On one side were a few thugs, but the other group...

"You’re from the Lucas family?" Caleb Lowell’s face instantly darkened.

He had crossed paths with the Lucas family years ago. The father and sons looked so much alike that they had left a deep impression on him.

"Talk. What’s really going on?" he demanded. He quickly realized this group wasn’t here for Luna Morgan’s parents’ debt. It seemed they were after Luna herself.

The members of the Lucas family were trembling with fear. After being shoved forward by her father-in-law and husband, the middle-aged woman stepped out.

"Sir, we have a promissory note! She owes us three million. It’s only natural to repay a debt!"

Caleb Lowell didn’t believe a word of it. "When did she borrow money from you? Speak! Why did you target her, and who sent you?"

A car pulled up. The moment it stopped, Chloe Dave scrambled out.

"What other reason could there be? Someone with an agenda must have led them to Luna!"

Seeing Luna Morgan’s pale face, his heart ached for her. It was all his fault for being so careless and letting these people slip through.

The more Chloe thought about it, the angrier he got. By the time he received the message, it was already too late!

He never would have imagined that, in broad daylight, these people would be so desperate for money that they’d go crazy and corner Luna Morgan!

If he had known this would happen, he shouldn’t have taken pity on the middle-aged woman and let her off the hook last night. He should have just taken her straight to the police station!

Chloe Dave continued, "I knew it! No wonder she suddenly asked about the Lucas family. She was planning to hurt someone all along..."

"Chloe, stop!" Luna Morgan quickly cut him off, clutching her chest and coughing a few times.

She looked at Caleb Lowell imploringly. "Please, let them go, won’t you? Mr. Lowell, I’m begging you."

Caleb Lowell felt a slight pang in his chest. He seemed to understand who the "she" Chloe was talking about was.

"And why should he stop?" an elegant, refined voice asked politely.

Realizing something, Caleb Lowell almost instantly let go of Luna Morgan’s arm. He turned his head and, sure enough, saw Jasper Sterling and Jane Lancaster.

"Jay!" He was both surprised and delighted that Jane Lancaster had come to find him.

But Jane Lancaster sighed internally.

’Why else would she say that? She’s just afraid Chloe will expose me, that’s all.’

’The day before yesterday, I sent her a voice message asking if she was the one who gave the Lucas family 300,000. The very next day, the Lucas family shows up. She’s not stupid; she must have guessed I was behind it.’

Caleb Lowell’s steps toward Jane Lancaster faltered. So it really was her, pulling the strings.

Jasper Sterling noticed his hesitation and lowered his eyes with a faint smile.

’So, does your love fade just because you know Jane is the one making trouble? Your love is pretty pathetic, then.’

"Why has everyone gone silent the moment we arrived? Weren’t you trying to get to the bottom of this?" Jasper Sterling said with a smile.

"There’s no need to ask." Caleb Lowell’s expression was icy. "Get the hell out of my sight! And don’t let me see you in Stratton ever again!"

"That doesn’t seem right. Their actions currently constitute blackmail and extortion. I think it would be better to call the police," Jasper Sterling said with a smile. "Three million is a huge amount. That’s a minimum sentence of five years."

Luna Morgan’s brow twitched, and she blurted out, "Don’t!"

Jane Lancaster asked, "Why not? It’s a fact that they were blackmailing and extorting you. You shouldn’t let them get away with it."

Luna Morgan’s voice was soft. "But this is between me and the Lucas family. I don’t want to press charges."

She looked up and gave Jane Lancaster a deep look. ’Miss Lancaster, if you’re doing this to get rid of the Lucas family, then don’t worry. I’ll take care of them.’

Jane Lancaster thought she understood.

’That look she’s giving me... does she plan to keep supporting the Lucas family, to solve this problem for me?’

Chloe Dave also noticed Luna Morgan’s determined gaze, and his temples throbbed with anger.

’Luna is too kind! She’s always trying to find a solution that works for everyone, but in the end, she’s the one who suffers!’

When the middle-aged woman showed up yesterday, Chloe had been there. The woman had been crying pitifully, saying her mother-in-law was sick and needed surgery. He’d impatiently shooed her away.

Afraid of being interrupted, Chloe blurted out all his suspicions at once. "You found out that Luna transferred 300,000 to the Lucas family to atone on your behalf, so you incited them to come to Stratton and harass her, right? Otherwise, why would they dare show up at her door? Why would they dare demand three million?"

Jane Lancaster: "..."

’The answer seems right, but the formula is all wrong.’

’Shouldn’t the story be that the Lucas family came to harass and threaten me, and in order to get away, I deliberately schemed to push the blame onto Luna Morgan?’

"What, you don’t dare to admit it?" His tone was aggressive. "If they’re going to prison, I think you should go right along with them!"

Caleb Lowell: "Chloe, that’s enough!"

Jasper Sterling chuckled, then asked with a hint of mischief, "President Lowell, what do you mean by that? It almost sounds like you’re covering for her. Surely you don’t believe what he said?"

Jane Lancaster looked at Chloe Dave. "Everything you’ve said is just speculation."

Chloe Dave stated resolutely, "The message you sent Luna is physical evidence! And they are the witnesses!"
